Forum Post: Honestly, it's time to stop throwing around the word thrasy.

Posted 1 year ago on Sept. 5, 2012, 12:09 p.m. EST by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

It's easy to assume that thrasy is this ever present figure but it's really just become a name synonymous with troll. What you are doing is giving cover to anyone else who wants to use multitudes of user names to engage in high school level social politics or genuinely troll the forum.

I was able to uncover Mark Janssen and John Basist who both hid behind the assumption it was thrasy. For a while, I thought it was Ted Hall, then maybe Roger the prof from Bard. I even found out about the Bard students before they went live on this forum with their affinity group.

If I can't figure it out, I doubt you can either. Thrasy was an actual user on this forum at one time, used to help Jart. Not sure if it was a falling out or if he was even banned. The only thing that is known is that Thrasymaque no longer posts on the forum. Anything beyond that is speculation and a place for others to hide when they decide to wreck the place.

Why do people enjoy feeding the trolls so much? Aren't there more important things to discuss?

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

Because 'The Forum Troll' has been relentless and has driven some genuine posters to despair and off this forum especially by whispering his weasel words in Private Messages !!! So, it is Not "feeding" - it's 'disinfecting' from my 'pov' and on a selfish and self-regarding note, in the search box below the 'Donate' tab on the forum frontispiece, type "user:" & my (or any other) moniker to see what I'd rather "discuss".

pax et lux ...

[-] 2 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

After reading your reply and considering what it has taken to regain the conversation on the forum, I agree. With most trolls, feeding is a bad idea. This guy though needs to be quarantined at every comment and user name. We all recognize the style by now and there is no way to push that agenda without revealing that style. This is an exceptional case.

Consider : OWS is some kinda annoyance / irritant / threat to US & Global Corporate Interests and I for one, do NOT doubt that ! Do we think that 'They' wish us well ?!! Would they - if they could - subvert, infiltrate, co-opt and take down OWS and this forum ?!!!

[-] 2 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Proof that there have been plans to subvert the movement

https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://richardkentgates.com/docs/CLGF-msnbc.pdf&chrome=true

I guess people just don't read this thing when I post it. Of course they would spend money to subvert the forum.

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

Yes. Important for others to read this. I have it already saved to my hard drive from before.

Brilliant and timely addition to this thread. Thanx 'rkg'.

Forum came to dead stop. See that? Like a fart in church.

[-] 1 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 1 year ago

Feeding the trolls encourages them to stay here. Honey is not a disinfectant to bees or trolls.

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

He is right in that we must at least maintain control of the conversation. The forum cannot be allowed to fall into a partisan divide. Prolonged periods of this leads to social divides and once it moves into the realm of person cliques, it becomes a chronic issue.

[-] 1 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 1 year ago

Read my reply to shadz.

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

'He's paid to do it' is my take on matters & I'm not going to sit quietly by & watch him ply his BS, day in day out, in his efforts to subvert this forum ! He wants it shut down and has said as much - if you recall !

I do see your point 'jrh' but this forum was awash with Trolls last year and we saw them off, however this 'TrashBucket' is NOT your 'run o' the mill' troll. As far as I'm concerned, he's a paid dis-info agent and a would be saboteur & I and some others here, will NOT stand for that without some sort of fight.

fallaces sunt rerum species ...

[-] 2 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 1 year ago

He is totally powerless unless you reply to him. It takes two people to have a conversation.

Taking that manly attitude and defending the forum is exactly what he wants. He uses your anger to empower himself. You become his slave and he makes himself master.

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

Sorry for being a 'man' and NOT a mouse. On this matter 'jrh', we shall have to agree to disagree' !!

I do not do "conversations", I talk 'at' him & will use his comments better in future to lay down 'info' !

No jr, not if VQ, and his buddy's attempt at co-opting this movement succeeds

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

Re. 'TrashyMask' : Hmmmm. Yes & No ! Textual & syntactic analysis (oooh, get me lol!) & other tells, reveal a singular individual on this forum, who is head & shoulders above/below all the other Trolls here.

Further, re. "If I can't figure it out, I doubt you can either." - ouch ! 'Hubris', much ?!! Is he rubbing off on you with his nefarious contagion, lol ?!!! Eg. regard faux-poster "poof" here on this thread - aptly named & blowing smoke out of his (x) - who is that, do we think ? IF indeed we do think at all on this matter.

ad iudicium ...

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Just say'n. But yeah, there is definitely a troll. By examining the text from dreamingforward and the ramblings of our militant troll, I would say it's Mark Janssen, still hanging around. You see, mark is/was an unemployed programmer, at least he was when he started on the forum. There are several places on the web where he is pandering for a LOT of money for his internet redesign project. The fact the he thinks he alone could take on this challenge if he just had another python developer to help him shows how diluted he is. His pandering makes him perfect for recruitment by law enforcement or private contractors that need a disposable agent. Ie, money hungry. Again, comparing the text of our troll and dreamingforward, it's a match. Also, after my first thread about Mark, he removed some of his threads. I still have a screenshot of the thread with his email in it, and it's still in his user profile.

ad somethingsomething...

I wish I knew Latin.

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

I get you. "Janssen" may well be a source of interest to you and my working theories revolves around a "Jean / John / Josh" as possible first names, so we gorra 'J' thing going on I see, lol. Around my yard, a 'J' is a joint, so I'm gonna roll one and reflect further upon the Montreal / Bali / Rennes & also upsate NY connections - if indeed there be any, lol. I'm not a coder / techy / IT 'bod' so can't come at him / her / it from that angle - but I have other angles.

Re the Latin, ad iudicium = 'to reason / common sense'. I never had a Latin lesson in my life, nor am I a graduate & it's merely over compensation and a rhetorical flourish as I have the noisy mind and verbose style of a stereotypical autodidact.

You are one interesting dude shadz. Be good man.

PS. I never got into hacking so it's all hard fought research for me as well.

Sure sure rub it in with your herbal access - your herbal superiority. That is just cruel.

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

Pardon ? Re. "herbal superiority" - I never claimed that my stash was better than anyone else's, lol !

{:-]) It has been over twenty years since my last beneficial/pleasurable encounter with the herbal remedies. So access to any at all would be in my view a superiority. LOL

Is there a TrashyMasque?

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

There is only one legitimate spelling of the name.

According to the group anonymous, the more one hides, the more one is truthful.

And, really, what is the purpose of revealing one's identity on a forum? It does not help ideas or arguments in any way. Unless you are selling a product which is tied to your name, it is a useless piece of information to provide the whole world.

[Removed]

[-] 0 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

Still, no matter how you cut it, revealing your identity to the world on a forum does not in any way help your ideas or your arguments. It's a useless piece of information. At best it doesn't matter, at worst it could create problems for yourself or your family. And, of course, it could also lead to bots grabbing your email and sending you all kinds of junk mail.

There's no point to revealing information about one's self here.

[-] 2 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Except maybe to show onlookers that you stand behind what you say. But to a self absorbed ass, I don't imagine integrity plays into decision making.

[-] -1 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

Good ideas and/or good arguments stand on their own two feet. It's a logical fallacy to judge them by whether or not you like the proposer, by whether or not you trust the proposer, or by whether or not you know anything at all about the proposer. If you can't judge ideas and/or arguments on their own merit, then you lack analytical skills.

Knowing that you cook seafood platters, and that your first name is Richard are just distractions. They only become useful pieces of information for those who want to cause you trouble.

[-] 2 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Ideas do not protest on the ground or the web, people do. And only people of integrity will pierce through to the other side. The rest will merely stand and watch.

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Anonymous is a two fold program developed by the pentagon. Anon was blamed for Stuxnet before it was revealed to be an Israeli born virus. Secondly, it's the perfect trap for hackers. Notice that it's always another Anon that is actually an FBI informant or agent that testifies against other Anons, in almost every case.

[-] -1 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

It took awhile, but you figured it out! Bravo!

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Actually, it's an admission that I cannot figure it out ;)

[-] -1 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

Indeed, you are wrong about every single thing in your post except that I helped/help jart.

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Please onmipresent one, elaborate on what in my post is wrong. That others hide behind the assumed identity? That Mark and John were identified trolls? or that the name thrasy has become synonymous with troll?

Take your time.

[-] -1 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

Thrasymaque has been made a legend by you and others. I'm not sure he even existed.

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

There is a link to his original user profile in the post. Legend? lol, hardly. He would need to reappear and make some serious ground for that to happen. Until I get a PM from the original user name, I refuse to believe he even still participates in the forum.

[-] -1 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

I could always PM you with that account, but that would be boring.

[-] 2 points by richardkentgates (3269) from Fort Walton Beach, FL 1 year ago

Then there goes your claim to fame. poof!

[-] -2 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

Indeed. There it goes... I guess I'll remain one of you now that you know I am not Thrasymaque.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (27542) from Coon Rapids, MN 1 year ago

Nah - I expect that you will be going poof soon only to show up again as something else.

[-] -1 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

Of course, it's part of my modus operandi.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (27542) from Coon Rapids, MN 1 year ago

Ummmm I think it is more - that at some point in time you will be offensive enough to get booted again. That is your MO.

[-] 1 points by poof (-18) 1 year ago

No, I'm very seldom offensive, and I create new users everyday whether or not I am booted.

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19979) 1 year ago

'Tr@syTroll' : ONLY someone who was / is paid to do it - would do that !!! Or only the most twisted, obsessed, compulsive 'mind' could or would do that !! You are not having fun 'scum-bag' - trolling this forum is how you pay your bar tab !

And lest you post factum edit / delete again, here's your comment once again :

If there were jobs to post in forums that have but a handful of serious users, America would not be in an economical crisis. And, honestly, the only ones here not supporting OWS ideology are the members of the Twinkle Team who came straight from moveon.org.

lol, you tried to say that distance changes as a result of time dilation before retracting and editing your comment. I would say you're around a 92. Pretty damn average if you ask me.
