Don't Panic: Earth's Nine Threats to Humanity

http://www.bloomberg.com/slideshow/2011-12-12/don-t-panic-earth-s-nine-threats-to-humanity.html#slide1

Very good presentation. I was not aware of Nitrogen dead zones, or Ocean acidity. "Alkalinity has declined 30 percent since the industrial age began. The change is a particular threat to sensitive corals, like those found in Australia's Great Barrier Reef."

I don't know about the Conservatives harping that Global Warming is a tax scam. I think it's a legit. That is some scary information. I think people are just thinking "If I can't see it, it must not be real" and searching for data to prove the alternative.

But the environment is clearly dying, and we will die with it. I think people imagine we can just live off our industrial food chain, eating mass-produced cattle and GMO foods. But I think when the water is contaminated and sacred, and the crops have difficulty adapting to the rapid changes in the environment, our life span will decrease greatly.

What do?

What's a big problem is that so many of those issues are politically connected, making a solution much harder than it normally would be. That sucks. Politics may, in fact, get in the way of any real improvements until too late.

History will put Capitalism into the same category as religion. The generation that worshipped a nonexistant currency. We sacrifice our children, our health, and our land just to satisfy the beast of capitalism. We spend our lives making sure it approved of our appearance and behaviour, only wearing what the Gods of capitalism would provide to us, and acting the way the Gods of Capitalism would present to us.
