Forum Post: Here's a thought, why not try to attract more people here?

This thanksgiving we will most likely gather with friends and family. Why not try and convince them to join with OWS?

OWS states it wishes to end the corruption of the system. Guess what? so does the average person. This is why congress is at 9% approval. It's because they are the most visible source of corruptions.

We have a chance to motivate others to grow this movement and vote out the incumbents this spring.

If OWS wants to change things, they need to become a political force. To do this it needs to grow. To do this it needs to attract others. And that can be accomplished best on an individual by individual basis.

If everyone in OWS here and in the streets can attract JUST ONE person EACH this weekend then OWS DOUBLES in size.

Now that would be a worthy goal.

I will certainly be talking about corporate greed at thanksgiving,

Absolutely, corporate greed, and the corruption of both parties that let it get out of control needs to be the topic. This is the root of the problems we face as a nation.

But be sure not to be all doom-and-gloom. Be hopeful, inspirational, remind people that our country has faced this before (gilded age, then later unfettered capitalism of 1920's) and beat it with the monopoly laws, labor movement, and new deal.

In fact, just about every generation of Americans have been tested, and we as a people have ALWAYS WON. from the revolution, to slavery, to womens rights, rise of fascism, and civil rights. This is the test of OUR generations (fellow x-ers, millenial, hell everyone). We can do this.

Right. 99% doom-and-gloom. 1% cranberry sauce. got it.

sounds like a recipe....

FOR DISASTER!

I'm on board for spreading the word and provoking my family/friends to think about the times we're living in, the injustices, the corruption, the corporate greed, etc.... We all need to be informed spokespeople of this cause that we believe in to make an even wider audience, wider circle, and further diversify it's participants.

Kewl, yes I agree a wider and wider circle is paramount. We need to throw 99% of the politicians out of office. People are already fed up, a little coversation with average folks show this. The next step is getting them to register to vote, and vote out the incumbants.

Unfortunately a lot of the people who are currently at the Occupy movements is what turns the general public off. What would be a good way to combat that?

Have them come here... oh wait, some might get scared by the trolls.....

Actually, if a person can't make it to a protest, here is as good a place as any to rally, we have some pretty good exchanges of Ideas here.

But that is the biggest thing, to get the discussion rolling, OWS started the debate, now we need everyone to join the debate.

Anouther thing we can do is get people to read the 99% declaration at:

http://www.the99declaration.org./

But one of the most important things we can get friends and family to agree on is that our system is corrupt, and those that corrupted it are IN OFFICE NOW.

To end the corruption, we need to be registered to vote and vote out the incombants this spring in their own primaries, then vote against them in the general election.

Hope this helped

Kewl, now that's 4 of us. Hope we can get more OWSers to get 'skin in the game' toward organizing and growth
