Forum Post: Help Us Rise Up for Victory this Tuesday

Help Us Rise Up for Victory this Tuesday in California New Mexico, and Wisconsin. Then on to November! Progressive Uprising - June 5th I have often said that if God had wanted us to vote, he'd give us better candidates. That's often a problem in my home state of Texas, but there are a few places around the country where real bottom-up, grassroots-supporting, "we the people" type candidates are running. And right now, they need our support and some of our hard work. Two of our best progressive activists have primaries this Tuesday, June 5th. Norman Solomon along the upper "Left Coast" of California, and Eric Griego in Albuquerque, New Mexico, are battling it out in tough primaries against well-funded opponents. But as you'd expect from two of our grassroots champions, both Norman and Eric have put a lot of effort into their get-out-the-vote operations, which could make the difference on primary day. There's still time for volunteers to pitch in for primary day, and we'll all be grateful for your work.
I was just in Detroit where we campaigned for "Healthcare, NOT Warfare" alongside long-time progressive champion John Conyers, author of the single-payer bill. His district has been gerrymandered, and he's having to run in a lot of new territory. He needs your help to go back to the next Congress, where we hope he will again Chair the Judiciary Committee.
If we work to help them win, Solomon, Griego, and Conyers will be Congress members for all of us. They'll fight for "Healthcare, NOT Warfare" no matter the odds.
Keep Agitatin', Jim Hightower
P.S.--And while we're making those last-minute phone calls, let's make sure all our friends in Wisconsin join the Uprising on Tuesday. Our buddy John Nichols is optimistic, and says it's all going to come down to turnout. We've come too far to turn back now. On Wisconsin!

Read the Rules

It is not an exaggeration to say that the fate of our 236-year-old democracy and the rule of law going back to the establishment of the Magna Carta, this month in the year 1215, now lies in the hands of Wisconsin voters.

I pray to God that Wisconsonites live up to the heritage of their forefathers and vote in unprecidented numbers Tuesday to show that theirs and our collective heritage will not be sold to the highest bidder.

Really? Some government slacker having to now pay 1/2 as much for healthcare as people that pay taxes will end the country? Oh boy, you government-types do live in a bubble.

[-] 3 points by PR1 (120) 11 years ago

When your grandchildren lie in rags in the gutter you will remember this very moment, Judas.

[-] -1 points by RealityTime (-224) 11 years ago

If my grandkids live in rags it'll be because of special interest groups like unions continuing the cycle of higher costs and higher taxes.

Poor dear, new Governor no longer giving you everything you asked for? Too bad, the people want their government back.

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

I agree completely RealityTime. By the way, the day after the election will be the beginning of the end of Walker's political career so I suggest you start grooming some other slut with a love child to replace him. It doesn't matter if Walker is gone tomorrow or in 2014. He'll be gone.

[Removed]

[-] -1 points by RealityTime (-224) 11 years ago

What the hell is progressive about wanting government to be controlled by its entrenched employees? Working families that pay for it are supposed to see higher taxes and less responsive government as some victory for working families?

[Removed]

[-] 0 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

I don't know anything about government employees. They don't want me so why would I care? It doesn't matter if Walker is right or wrong because he'll be gone before long. Like I said, start grooming another preacher. All we have to do is keep talking about Walker's love child until people get sick of hearing about and they vote him out. Love child, love child, love child.........

[Removed]

[-] -2 points by RealityTime2 (-25) 11 years ago

But the reforms are in place. As the money they save and the flexibility they restore gets adjusted too and once again becomes normal, going back will be very tough, even for a union stooge governor down-the-road.

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

Walker made mistakes that politicians can't afford to make. He also let the cat out of the bag. His plan was, don't question the good-old-boy private sector like the UAW but go after the public employee unions. Preach some morality along the way. Not a bad plan for a republican but threre's this messy love child thing now...

[Removed]

[-] 0 points by RealityTime2 (-25) 11 years ago

It doesn't seem that messy, but even if they liberal dream comes true and it is, it doesn't matter. The deed is done. Just imagine some politician 5 years from now saying "Heh, I have an idea. Let's increase government employee healthcare benefits, let's put strikes back on the table, and lets allow the union to again sit as healthcare insurance middleman." When you reform abuse as Walker did, it's tough for it to come back into play, even if Walker's gone.

The other thing too is that the union is getting defunded. Half of its members have quit now that dues are being forced (another Walker reform) and the healthcare insurance scam money is gone too. Less money, less ability to buy themselves another stooge.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

Health care should be a public service

Walker would make a good martyr I suppose. Everybody loves martyrs.

Great info! We must spread this like wildfire!

[-] 2 points by PR1 (120) 11 years ago

They've already put their spin/propaganda machine into work to discredit this, and try to turn the story against Barrett! That's what you call fast work! See my post "The Truth Is Out There."

What an amazing amount of power to decieve lies in the hands of the ultra-rich! And sadly, a lot of people seem unable to see the larger picture well enoungh to be resistant to these corporate, Koch sponsored, right-wing lies! Please spread the word on that post.

Every trick in the bag is relevant.

What happens within a marriage is the business of those involved, sex is the business of those involved, (if they are adults), once a child is introduced, the actions may be fairly judged to represent the inner self to a degree. The people of Wisconsin should consider the type of person they choose to lead.

[-] 2 points by PR1 (120) 11 years ago

Well, if I hadn't had to hear about Monica Lewinski's dress for 21/2 years 24/7, I would agree with you.

NO WAR

[-] 2 points by PR1 (120) 11 years ago

Well, if we can re-occupy democracy we might be able to do something about that. There's no reason that social activists have to be babes in the woods when it comes to the realities of power. In fact (in spite of what so many would have us believe) it helps social activists to understand what might actually enable them to achieve the reforms they seek:)

Damn dumb ineffectual afraid to confront down-voting sock puppets.

Sent this day 6/03/2012 An Open Letter Addressed to The President of the United States of America and to all of the currently seated members of Government. Please Handle and deliver/share as you would a letter delivered by the USPS.

Mr. President and all currently seated members of Government,

The People would like to know if "YOU" know what you are doing?

Why? You Might Ask?

Really?

Does it seem to you that things are peachy keen and all is well? Wake-up!!!!!!!!!!

Get to work!!!!!!!!!!!

How you say (?) - this is an election year! Nothing gets done in an election year! Pardon the french but what a load of CRAP!!!!!!!!! Put an end to the economic meltdown. You can do it - You can do it NOW! How you might ask?

Why does that not surprise me or anyone else in this country of ours? 1st before it all comes crumbling down. Freeze the assets and activities of WallStreet. Separate Investment and lending Banking. Break down the to big to fail. Arrest the economic criminals and freeze their personal assets. What for you say? They have done nothing wrong you say? Pardon the french - But Bullshit!!!!!! Fraud and collusion to commit Fraud are plenty enough reason to make arrests and give them all a Bernie Madoff Makeover - from riches to rags to jail.

You bailed out the wrong people. You should have let all of WallStreet Fail and you should have insured and bailed out their victims. You should have then immediately restored Glass-Stegall. How much in toxic derivatives are still on the market? Still waiting to fail to come due.

You want American Business to succeed you say? And Yet you have free trade agreements which make it next to impossible for American business to compete in their home markets. Green technology investment going bad due to foreign price undercutting. American jobs lost to outsourcing to foreign sweatshops by American businesses avoiding the costs of operating here at home - costs such as being required to be environmentally responsible and accountable. Costs such as paying a living wage to their employees - all of them. Safe working conditions insurance. All because of Profits over People. Pardon the french - But - YOU SUCK.

Oh yeah nice the way you have pulled the teeth of the EPA to allow Oil & LNG fracking to be conducted however the industry wants - endangering our ground water and polluting our air and land. All for Profits over People in a glut market that sees gasoline still at high prices at the pumps. What ever happened to the rules of supply and demand - the fossil fuel industry is exempt?

If you were so inclined you could go on an immediate National Public Works program to put people back to work. Doing what you may ask? How about doing all of the things our energy producers should have been doing all of these years. Upgrade the infrastructure of our power grid. End the world wide pollution and strife caused by Fossil Fuel. Change over to green energy - and no I am not talking about Solar Panels and Wind Turbines - they are a help but not the answer. We have millions of unemployed people and a very sad and anemic job growth. Put these people back to work doing something healthy and prosperous for this country and in extension the world. Train them on the job while constructing on how to operate and maintain these new systems. Include an upgrade to education to ready our kids to enter the modern world of work.

Implement real green energy - LOOK AT THIS - This is where we should be going: Green Energy we have the technology we just need to use it. This is what I am talking about. A clean future to be implemented NOW!

http://www.hopewellproject.org/

http://ecat.com/

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/ff_new_nukes/all/1

FuelCell Energy http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/news/progress_alerts.cfm/pa_id=600

Hydrogen fuel cell powered transportation. Jobs new industry easily applied to existing transportation manufacturing.

Look at the stand alone self powered house of the hopewell project. The use of Geo-thermal heating and cooling - and no not tectonic/volcanic powered Geo-thermal. Heating and cooling systems that can be placed for individual already existing structures from single family homes to larger building complexes. Imagine cost savings for low income subsidized elderly disabled housing. Think of the relief on a power grid.

Power generation look at the power plant just opened in orange county ( link provided above) it can run on sewer gas LNG gas from land fills. It is versatile and green.

Go a step beyond and look at thorium nuke power plants - clean and a small footprint - and green eliminates a major nuclear waste problem and the fuel can not be used for a nuclear bomb. Perfect for say Iran?

Come on get the people out of the streets and back to work. Back to contributing to the economy. No more homeless - lets put an end to poverty.

Hell even the fossil fuel people are in a good position to make a green transition. Health and prosperity for all.

BTW - what is up with Blackwater - I mean are they not kind of like an illegal military organization? Why do we need them? They are outside of the military chain of command - rogue - and funded by the government? They are mercenaries. They have no good or healthy purpose for a good and healthy country.

Consider these things.

Consider the Declaration of Independence.

Consider the Constitution of The United States of America.

Consider your duty to your people your country.

Then - GET TO WORK.

Thank you,

Dan

Thanks, people like you and bensdad--a couple of others, too--have convinced even an anarchist like me to register and vote. You probably realize by now, how well I react to right-wing "philosophy," if you can call such a hodge-podge of illogical "thinking" a philosophy, So, you know how I'll vote come November.

[-] 2 points by PR1 (120) 11 years ago

Thank you, you just made my day. There are times I feel like all the efforts made to expose these criminals, and convice everyone that voting is essential to prevent us from sliding into third-world status, falls on deaf ears.

I think those who vote for Walker or the Republicans in November should be given a one way bus ticket to Juarez and have their American citizenship revoked.

That is the kind of society Walker and his "associates" want for America, a ruthless dog-eat-dog society like Juarez, where human like isn't worth a nickel. So if these people want that then why should they have to wait - just send them to Juarez and let them fend for themselves. Let them see if that's really the kind of place they'd like America to be.

[-] 1 points by TitusMoans (2451) from Boulder City, NV 11 years ago

I wouldn't wish Juarez on any one, except for the food and beer.

[-] 5 points by PR1 (120) 11 years ago

All the factors that made Juarez what it is are now in play here in the U.S. Bush Sr. said that he considered El Salvador, at the height of its death squad activity, "a model democracy."

What I am saying is not hyperbola. Juarez is the "vision" they have for America: a place run by criminals for their own interests, and the larger human population can either kill or be killed - or simply starve by the wayside. That is the choice we are faced with in the upcoming elections and those who sit it out will have lost their last chance to transform that vision into something remotely aproaching a vision worthy of mankind.

I don't say this for effect - I'm beyond caring about the push and pull of partisan politics. It isn't an issue of Democrats or Republicans, but of truth or lies, right or wrong, humanitarianism or the law of the jungle. We can no longer dillude ouseves as to the nature of that choice, and whether we will be active in making it, even in our silence.

The recall election was the top story on the PBS News Hour tonight. They said it right too. The eyes of the Nation will be on Wisconsin tomorrow.

[-] 2 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 11 years ago

This is close, if Walker losses, he spent 25 million to 1 million, or that’s the last numbers I heard anyway.

“Walker leads by 3 points PPP's final poll on the Wisconsin recall finds Scott Walker ahead, but also a race that's tightening. Walker leads Tom Barrett 50-47. That's down from 50-45 on a PPP poll conducted three weeks ago and it's also down from a 52-45 lead that Walker posted in a Marquette Law poll released last week.”

From The People for The American Way.

Message from 6/2/12:

Check it out video

http://site.pfaw.org/site/R?i=iws99pqvSoB0LtOZq-rWag

Dear Dan,

In the gubernatorial debate between Scott Walker and his Democratic challenger Tom Barrett a little more than a week ago in Wisconsin, Barrett didn’t just beat Walker, he whooped him.

Please take a moment to check out some video highlights from the debate and see exactly why Tom Barrett is the CLEAR choice over Scott Walker.

http://site.pfaw.org/site/R?i=vydganCJs-NNy9Yrll1fXg

Watching the video should be a cathartic reminder of why we’re in this fight and should make you feel good about your support for our Recall the Right campaign.

It will also be helpful to share these clips far and wide to help draw even more attention to the incredibly important decision Wisconsin voters will make this Tuesday. Of course, if you live in Wisconsin or know anyone in the state, please make doubly sure to share, as there is no more critical audience for these great highlights than Badger State voters.

Thank you for all the support. As this campaign builds to a crescendo, our team is hard at work on the ground, personally reaching as many voters as they can.

Stay tuned for what should be a very exciting next few days.

From people for The American Way:

Dear Dan,

In the final days of the recall campaign, Scott Walker and his right-wing allies are stooping to new lows…

A dishonest new ad from the Walker campaign uses the story and image of a two-year-old who died as the result of physical abuse to attack Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and his police department -- completely distorting the facts about how the case was handled. But Barrett called Walker out for the ad's dishonesty, rightly referring to it as "Willie Horton stuff," in their last debate and set the record straight.

This is a MUST watch. Check out the ad and the part of the debate addressing it here>>

http://site.pfaw.org/site/R?i=uECQdsNrCcLI5zHfM4IYcw

Then please share the video via email and social media.

We also have reports coming out of Wisconsin that a right-wing group allied with Walker shut down the Barrett campaign's phone system by airing the campaign line in an ad to generate an overwhelming number of calls. And Scott Walker is aggressively denying rumors that he is soon to become a target in the so-called "John Doe investigation," that has already swept up members of his staff from his office when he was the Milwaukee County Executive. Meanwhile, he has put aside $100,000 for a legal defense war chest.

This recall election has been a wild ride from the start, but the shamelessness of Scott Walker, Wisconsin Republicans and the outside right-wing groups supporting them seems to be getting more shocking by the day leading up to the very last minute.

We have plenty of work to do in the next two days. Thank you for standing with us -- together we can Recall the Right and send the message that Americans reject their overreaching, radical agenda.

-- Ben
