Honestly the only film of his that I really thought was well-done was his first one, Roger and Me. Long before he became a celebrity.
I think many of his other films are coming from a good place, but he's used dishonest tactics (his defence has been along the lines of "the right does it so I can do it back to them" which, to me, is just a race to the bottom - and leaves them open to valid criticism).
Also there's his whole "get out the vote" trip (eg Slacker Uprising) which I think is misguided.
