They got rid of the dictators but now the new governments will all be Totalitarian Theocracies! Do you think that is what the revolutionary protesters wanted?
At least they attempted change. We seem destined to vote for the same two parties AGAIN.

Democracy worked in the west because we went through the enlightenment, which encouraged secular thought. Egypt never went through any such stage. Heck, they haven't even gone through something like the Renaissance yet. Most of the people in Egypt are illiterate and their community center the Mosque. It really shouldn't be that surprising that Egypt went the way it did. The students who started the protest at Tahrir square were part of a very small minority of the population that received education similar to what we have in the west. Most of the population wouldn't respect a constitution like the United States because they have very little knowledge of history and the freedoms our constitution entails doesn't mesh well with their chief religion.
Indeed, and that's why its majorly lame that Occupy keeps on comparing itself with such protests. Occupy needs to find particular solutions to the particular socio-economic-political problems faced by America. Cherry picking irrelevant protests throughout the world and throughout history to emulate is doomed to failure. I understand the want for Occupy to be global, but we must realize that countries around the world do not all face the same problems. As you have aptly noted, populations have different types of education, culture, religion, etc... And, we must look at the history of each country, theirs laws, etc... A solution in one country is far from guaranteed to work in another.

It doesn't matter where it came from as long as the writer was aware of the situation in the Arab countries. There are many American scholars who are experts in the socio-economic-political realities of other countries. There are also foreigners who study and publish books in America. The best scholars in Indonesia are Indonesians who have studied abroad; in the United-States or Europe.
What's important is that these protests were planned according to their local situation and the protesters did not feel the need to latch on to other protests around the world and throughout history. They played their own game, and so should Occupy.

There is oil shale in the western US and frozen methane under the gulf, as well as the coal in the east. The point is lots of conventional energy here. When prices rise and it become economically feasible it will be tapped.
