This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Find or start petitions for this most important issue.

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/land-for-landless-scots-for-grow-your-own/

Aloha please sign this petition

http://www.meetup.com/Aloha-Grow-Your-Own-Organic-Food-Meet-Up/messages/boards/thread/13663741

These petitions can & must be re opened. Fight for your rights to grow your own food.

http://www.change.org/petitions/enact-freedom-to-eat-law-stop-criminalizing-us-citizens-for-growing-their-own-food

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/one-million-gardens/ (one million gardens! imagine that)

This one is a little older but shows clearly govt actions can obviously work against this important goal.

http://www.naturalnews.com/030418_Food_Safety_Modernization_Act_seeds.html

http://www.care2.com/greenliving/seven-reasons-why-you-should-grow-your-own-food.html

Read, learn, act in small and large ways.

WE can make a difference. Start by getting people to sign petitions, get them on a mailing list, send them pusuasive info, and you will have created an activist.

Some will do little but some can become powerhouses of activicm. We don't know where the next effective activist is.

We can inspire them with the smallest beginnings.

Most of all encourage all positive efforts, Leave the negativity at home when trying to grow the movement to grow our own food.

many communities have regulations against having gardens or raising even small livestock forget real livestock.

[-] 1 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 11 years ago

indoor hydroponic based farms are part of the answer.

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

No doubt. Maybe you've seen this.

No doubt about it. We must be alert to these laws, and protest, petition, phone, & fight to change them.

WE can make it happen.

[-] 2 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 11 years ago

god forbid you want to raise a few quail even or want to grow something that is not grass in your lawn.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

totalitarian, big agri protecting, corp puppets.

End the duopoly! Support pro 99% politicians.

[-] 1 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 11 years ago

they like to do it through home ownership associations.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

I would never live like that. I remeber last year a story about home owner association forbidding "line drying clothes" (to save energy/costs) because "it didn't look good"

Whaaaaat??

Unacceptable.

[-] 2 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 11 years ago

they are ridiculous.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

And those who embrace that form of living or look the other way are weak & pathetic.

I think isolated areas like that are so important to the future of agriculture.

What boggles my mind is that the biotech industry (monsanto and others) have claimed for decades that the goal of GMO foods is to feed the world. That's the whole point of it...and that's what has been sold to the public. So if this is their number one goal....to get food to all the poor people around the globe....why in the hell would you create a crop with a terminator gene???? That's about as far away from feeding the globe as you can get....because not only are you creating produce that doesn't create more yields like it's supposed to...you're creating a crop that self destructs after a season. Shouldn't they be trying to find a crop that will mass produce seeds....instead of destroying itself after one year??? This alone should tell people that this whole industry is bogus and motivated by one goal...profits...they could care less about people.

[-] 1 points by imagine40 (383) 11 years ago

That is the disgusting truth in a nutshell. Profits over people. In the production of FOOD.

And their false claims of feeding the world are just more insidious double speak.

That truth has to be shouted from the rooftops, repeated tirelessly. That crime against humanity must be codified and enforced, the execs, board members even the goddamn scientists should be imprisoned as enemies of civilization.

Un fuckin believable.

[-] 2 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Petitions can be the seed for growing a powerhouse activist.

Grow your own activists (& food) ;)

Some communities might also want to look into making their own clothes as well. If just one person did this for themselves and their family it probably wouldn't be worthwhile if it was done solely for savings but if that person got discounts and made it for more neighbors then they might be worthwhile.

The clothing that we used to be able to buy thirty five years ago was much better quality than what they sell now. They have been cutting more corners every year and they have to ship most merchandise much farther now often half way around the world. A few dozen small sewing shops that restored factory direct and restored quality could give them a good run for their money.

Haven't looked much but found this for starters.

http://stitchandboots.com/2009/04/28/is-making-your-own-clothes-economical/

Patterns should not have to be bought since they're basic; they shouldn't have any intellectual property rights since they go back hundreds of years. Lawyers might disagree but screw them.

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

Excellent grassroots direct action.

I think it can be made to be profitable. Probably a major effort. but worthwhile definitely.

great link

[-] 2 points by zacherystaylor (243) 11 years ago

The same could go for furniture and many other simple things that we used to be able to do not to long ago. I know that when it comes to furniture that an enormous amount can be saved and improve quality as well for someone with a few basic tools because I have done it.

That link came after only a minute of searching; I'm sure more and better could be found with a minimum of research.

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

Without a doubt, making furniture is most helpful. I would also suggest consider reusing items in the furniture making efforts.

Be creative, functionality over aesthetics. But furniture making would make a difference.

[-] 1 points by haleycoll (1) 11 years ago

A lot of people have wondered if they can save money growing their own food. You certainly can, but can you grow enough to seldom have to go to stores? It's doable, by getting into year-round gardening.

[-] 1 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 11 years ago

they can't have us growing our own food. that does not feed the system. the system is feeding on it self it's sooo hungry. it must eat. and it is going to eat you and yours.

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

True that. And they own & control everything from the seed, land, water, and govt.

The corp 1% oligarchs are the most pwerful, insidious, ooverwhelming force we have faced in all of human history.

Years of hard work & struggle lie ahead of us if we hope to change that self destructive reality.

[-] 1 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 11 years ago

That all depends on us. It need not take years.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

If only it could be quicker. I'm not against quicker change. I suppose I see it that way because of how powerful the forces are against us.

I've always planned for the worse, and hoped for the best.

At the time of the American Revolution (1775-83), 95 percent of the population was engaged in farming. Today that figure is less than 2 percent.

corporations own 36% of the farmland

VQ! How fucking dare you! Crying to mama to have posts removed because you don't like them? I've never been this disgusted here.

Toughen up buttercup.

I don't want anybody getting any comment removed, whether I agree with their comment or not. Even your offensive plea to the mods shouldn't be removed.

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

There are rules. MODS should remove ALL useless disruptive comments/users. That serves "the ideas forum" you referred to earlier.

The MODS should be alerted, I am happy helping out.

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

I am inclusionman. I do not like the sexual sucking/homophobic comment and I am within my rights to request it be removed.

[+] -4 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

Censorship. You are the 1%. Don't like the comment, invent an affront to have it removed. Pure censorship.

Show me where you have the right to not be offended by anything.

[-] 4 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

"right to not be offended"? I don't even know what that means. We can all be offended. It ain't against the law to offend people. When that happens we all have the right to request the offensiveness be removed.

I've done nothing wrong.

You're bullying me to not request the offensivness be removed may be allowed but it is the kind of thing we teach our children not to do.

Are you a child? Please stop bullying me. I don't know you, perhaps I'm a prude, but that is allowed. I don't like the comment and I am allowed to ask it be removed.

[+] -4 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

Do you cry to the mods to remove a lot of words or was it just is this one case? This is an ideas forum, so toughen up and let them flow.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

At what point are you actually planning on putting forth an idea?

I'm holding my breath, so please be quick about it.

[+] -4 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

Speaking out against censorship is a pretty good idea. Something tells me you look at censorship with the same situational ethics you use with racism, so it's probably wasted on you

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Yer a funny guy.

Do you do open mike night too?

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

I'm tough just fine, thank you very much. Your attempts at bullying me are useless. Perhaps you need to toughen up.

This is an ideas forum, his comments are disruptive and offensive. They are clearly against the rules of the forum.

They do not add to the conversation and aren't thread related. Perhaps you and he come here to disrupt and offend. You wouldn't bethe1st nor the last.

The MODS should be alerted. I am perfectly happy to help them out.

And I am tough enough to take the bullying that results.

[-] -3 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

What do you expect me to say when I have people following me around and derailing threads I post in, filling them with insults, downvoting my posts for no reason, and starting threads out of spite? My score was like 89 two days ago, before these dicks started rabidly insulting me and stalking me through the forums. If this is what this forum is like, I do not regret saying it sucks cock. If a new member cannot join the community without one post offending the ego of a few established members that decide to spend all their effort on fucking with that new member, what kind of reaction do you really think you're going to get?

How is any discussion supposed to happen amidst all the talk of me being a negative, anti-activist, downer, hateful, angry, spiteful moron? Do I really sound like that kind of person to you, when you read what I'm saying right now? I'm very calm, reasonable, and I'm trying to be as cordial as possible, but it's a little difficult when your nerves are as frayed as mine.

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

There's plenty of reasons for the reaction to what you are posting.

Perhaps if it was more inline with what OWS supports?

[+] -6 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

OWS doesn't support a society free from the clutches of the capitalist owning class?

[-] 5 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

They do.

You only pretend to.

How about a comment on union busting?

How about a comment on the XL?

How about a comment on some new activity by the Kochs?

[+] -4 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

So anyway, it's interesting how you have no location or profile, and neither does repubsRtheprob, and both of you use extremely similar language and grammatical structure, and seem to be coordinated in attacking me. Probably because you're in the same room being shills.

Where are you from? What do you do? What school did you go to? Where are you living right now? Which Occupy chapter are you a member of?

[-] 5 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Oh boy!!!

Now I'm a conspiracy theory too!!!

Will you work Bigfoot into it?

Please?

So you have a comment on the Koch's then?

PS: I'm in Michigan, a little research on site would have revealed that to you.

[-] -3 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

The only thing I have to say to you about koch is that it makes me zoom when it goes up my nose.

So, what do you do? What's your job? What did you study in school?

[-] 6 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I study troll theory in an online course by the CIA.

It's a secret. National security, doncha know..

I know you to be a self proclaimed, "self taught" university student.

A bit of an oxymoron there.

[-] -3 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

I'm a self-proclaimed university student? Uh, actually, it was proclaimed by that university that I live right next to, GMU.

Why are you afraid to say what you do? I work at a coffee shop in Alexandria and I study computer science at GMU. What do you do?

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

You claimed to be autodidact.

I just told you, I study troll theory.

Is that so hard to believe?

[-] -3 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

Oh, do I have to register with the National Institute of Genuine Autodidacts?

[-] 5 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Sure. It would get yer troll self out of here for a while anyway.

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

Please remove the sexual sucking references from the1st comment and now this one.

Thank you

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

He's testing what he thinks he get away with before the mods ban him.

Then he will come back under a new name and bitch about censorship.

Same old MO.

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

I guess so. I will refrain from conversing with him.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

This should help you find some insight into the push for Art5.

It's another (R)epelican't plot. No wonder those guys are so hard to understand.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/02/16/indiana-gop-seeks-to-overturn-federal-government/

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

Is Ack another art5'r? Last year it was ALEC, I suspect they are still behind art% efforts. If ack is also I wouldn't be surprised.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I was just changing the subject.

ack's a troll, not much different from any other troll, although he's likely a puppet of some other troll. Possibly freaks puppet.

[-] 1 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

Good idea, He is entertaining, but useless. Obviously NOT an Occupier.

I've given up.

[-] -3 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

VQ never gives up. He has drawers of socks.

[-] -2 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

What's art5?

@shooz: The irony is so much it might fuse into cobalty.

[-] -3 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

Sure, no problem.

[-] -3 points by danya8 (-98) 11 years ago

Yea...that's what's the biggest problem our country faces. Not enough people growing cucumbers. This forum is collection of the biggest fucking idiots ever assembled. More "food deserts" HA HS HA ., What a fucking joke. Only liberals could come up with the term "food deserts". As if our obese country is starving to death.

The lunacy here never ceases to amaze

[-] 3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Good morning, little cockroach.

[-] -3 points by danya8 (-98) 11 years ago

morning ignorant bimbo

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Hey, little disgusting slimeball.....is this fun? You never did say, how much do you get paid to post?

[-] -3 points by Ackhuman (-88) from Fairfax, VA 11 years ago

You are throwing a serious temper tantrum.

This thread deserves some context. The only reason it exists is because I said that petitions against climate change would be ineffective. This guy responds with rabid insults and anger, then insults me about being angry when I get angry, after which I calm down and mention how there are direct actions which are much more effective in mitigating climate change, to which he responds by insulting me some more and starting this thread.

Read for yourself, here

By the way, in the midst of his insulting my "negativity", he says "most people cannot grow appreciable amounts of food themselves" which is silly.
