I've been saying this for weeks now. In addition, what do you think of this idea: Right now there is only one US Rep. per 720,000 people. It's no wonder they don't listen to the people anymore. There is nothing in the Constitution that says it has to be that high. If we reduce that number, the Reps will be closer to the people and their increased number will be much harder for the lobbyists to corrupt. And it will scare the shit out of them.

If this is your strategy for victory, it's a lost cause! Trying to separate money from politics if fantasy land horseshit because money is politics and vice versa! It's like trying to legislate the separation of tits and ass. Get real!

[-] 1 points by Tusker (12) 12 years ago

Tits and ass are separate mutually exclusive entities.

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

Inextricably connected by what really matters. The collective lack of understanding on these boards is the greatest argument against direct democracy. Just shut up and vote, and if you don't vote you don't have the right to bitch.

campaign finance laws, we just need to push them to do it

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

And what about the unions financing campaigns with the tax money they are paid? Will they still be allowed to donate money when the corporations aren't? Of course they will be because they donate to the "right" causes and party! This issue makes you people shills for the Democrats because you will never support limiting union campaign financing! The reason the corporations were permitted to donate to campaigns by the SCOTUS is because it was hypocritical to allow unions to do somand not corporations. The only reason you would allow unions to continue their corruption is because it is in support of socialism, which is all this is really about!

[-] 1 points by madeinusa (393) 12 years ago

And what about the corporations financing campaigns with the money we we purchase thing with? If they want to use it for such purposes then they should let us know so we can choose or not choose to spend with them.

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

You can see where companies spend their campaign contributions, it's public record. I choose not to spend money with many companies that I think suck at what they do or where they spend their money. The problem with these unions is that there is not choice whether or not to pay your taxes that finance their lavish expenditures on retirement, benefits, and the funding of the Democrat party exclusively! It is corruption like this that needs to be stopped!

[-] 1 points by madeinusa (393) 12 years ago

unions only fund politicians that support the poor and middle class. There is no difference between corps using your money for campaigns as unions do. Except union members MUST approve or give by a separate fund. See COPE

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

Oh and unions only fund politicians that support the union. It has ZERO to do with the poor and middle class.

[-] 1 points by madeinusa (393) 12 years ago

bullshit. look at the afl-cio website, take a look at the labor councils etc. and see what they support and participate in. You have no idea what they do.

Denis Hughes, President of the 2 1/2 million member New York State AFL-CIO today issued the following statement regarding the efforts of New York's congressional delegation in securing $25 million for the care and treatment of ground zero rescue workers:

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

Securing $25M from where? The taxpayer, of course! It's easy to be generous with other people's money. And just for good measure, those "rescue workers" that this taxpayer money will benefit are unionized. So ultimately this is more taxpayer money going to support the unions. Would you like to support my argument in another way?

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

Wrong, wrong, wrong my friend! Union dues are compulsory and collected by the state just like taxes are, in many states, including NY! There is no option or opinion as to what the union does with that money. Also there are no options as to whether or not to join a union in certain industries, if you want to work, you have to join! This is all according to the LAW that is written by their bosses that they helped elect! Are you really unable to see the corruption here!?!

[-] 1 points by madeinusa (393) 12 years ago

I am in a union moron. COPE...look it up. Union dues are taken out of our checks as well as health insurance, charity donations. If you don't want to be in the union then find another job the republicans have created in the past 30 years. Oh I am sorry, they have decimated our manufacturing base with Bush giving it away to China

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

So...if I don't like the union I need to quit my job. Personally, I'd rather keep my job and quit the union!

[-] 1 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

And BTW, Bush didn't sign the trade agreements that made it easier to outsource jobs, that would be Clinton (Democrat). Part of the reason jobs are outskirts to low wage countries is because the unions are too expensive for companies to remain competitive. I wouldn't expect you to understand competition, it's not the strong suit of unions afterall.

[-] 1 points by StevenRoyal (490) from Dania Beach, FL 12 years ago

Tax money unions are paid? Huh?

[-] 0 points by EMunny (82) 12 years ago

The vast majority of unions are Public Employee Unions who represent government workers at the state and local level. How do you think government workers are paid, with tax money! There aren't any windfall profits in the public sector because they don't make or sell anything. They collectively bargain against the taxpayer and use the money to campaign for their own bosses, who then in turn give them raises. It is corruption masquerading as democracy!

[-] 1 points by StevenRoyal (490) from Dania Beach, FL 12 years ago

Not sure how you define the word "vast", According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 7.884 Million private sector works are in unions while 8,406 million public sector works (Federal, State, and local) are in unions. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/union2.t03.htm There are no windfall profits in the public sector because the public sector isn't about profits. As far as being the most aggressive in collective bargaining; its the Fire and Police unions (a.k.a. as American Heroes) who are the most aggressive; but nobody wants to do anything to upset them.
