FloodWallStreet

On Monday, September 22nd at 9am, thousands of people will gather at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan to confront the root cause of the climate crisis - an economic system based on exploiting frontline communities, workers, and natural resources. On the heels of the largest-ever march on climate change, we have an opportunity to transform our energy systems and our economic systems, and in fact - they cannot be separated.

Wearing blue to represent the sea that surrounds us, we rise to the steps of the NY Stock Exchange at 12 pm, flooding the area with our bodies in a massive sit-in - a collective act of nonviolent civil disobedience to confront the system that both causes, and profits from the crisis that is threatening humanity.

Full call to action and information: http://floodwallstreet.net 9 AM - Gather @ Battery Park - Breakfast and Music from Rude Mechanical Orchestra

9:30 AM - Speakers - including frontline community leaders of the Climate Justice Alliance, Global Ambassadors from 350.org, Rebecca Solnit and Chris Hedges 11 AM -- Nonviolent Direct Action Training & March 12 PM -- Flood Wall St. and Mass Sit-In

Zuccotti Park, Sept 17, 2014 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

http://interoccupy.net/events/s17-nyc-occupy-wall-street-2014/

This too, why isn't this up on the front page? Too much fragmentation among the people who think they started this thing. Too much running away when it didn't go exactly as they planned. Way, way too much ego!

Solidarity with the 99% everywhere! Watershed change takes time, even decades. Chin up. Far view.

And, remember, Occupy Wall Street belongs to no single person. It belongs to the 99%, even the 100% when all is said and done, and it's an idea, first and foremost. You can take down our tents and arrest us on the sidewalks but you cannot take away our ideas! We know what needs to be done!

Absolutely - issues - not egos - confront what is wrong - support what is right.

[-] 2 points by beautifulworld (23767) 9 years ago

This forum should be turned over to someone willing to run it properly. The fact that there is nothing on the front page regarding the third anniversary of Occupy Wall Street is an embarrassment. I don't have the tech skills, but I wish someone would step up and I wish the site would be relinquished to someone willing to fight for the 99%.

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 9 years ago

Exactly, 'bw'! The last article (by Micah) on the front page is 3 weeks old!

It sounds like a letter of conclusion, a goodbye, a reflection for the next step of revolution...and as though this forum has been relegated to having done it's job. Finished. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong. I don't know. But, I see this forum as very fluid and being able to go through history of ongoing current events and social answers. Like a historical living document or journal.

I too, have thought that this forum should be turned over to the people. Jart doesn't even have to lose total control over it, if she doesn't want to. Lots can be achieved through an open compromise. But I've tried to contact jart on a few matters, to no avail.

Thanks 'bw'!

[-] 2 points by Renneye (3874) 9 years ago

Public, and transparent is EXACTLY the way to go, DK! I've contacted her privately several times...with not a word in return. Total silence. Many others here have said the same thing.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with talking publicly about a public forum meant for the 99%. That's the way direct democracy works...or 'should' work. No?!

No-one is brow beating jart!!! How do you get that out of this? We've tried to go the private route. It hasn't worked. We're simply asking a question.

I don't think that anyone would argue that we're justified in being reasonably upset at not getting an answer from jart for so long.

Don't you wonder why she hasn't weighed in on the subject with anyone?

[-] 0 points by 99nproud (2697) 9 years ago

Then....! after the March we can Floodwallstreet?

Be ready to be arrested!

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

The forum is more of a dictatorship than it is a democracy.

If only that the owner of the site has full control and final authority.

In that - go ahead and have open forum discussions on what is going on as far as how the forum is or is not functioning.

My only point - is - jart is gonna do what jart is gonna do.

So calm reasoning and an attempt to get a conversation going with jart - would seem to me to be the way to go. So however you want to try to establish that conversation is OK.

[-] -1 points by 99nproud (2697) 9 years ago

Maybe she's busy planning the flood.

Who cares about ..inkles, mods,& code changes?

We're facing arrest to further our efforts to change wall st & our economic system.

Now THAT is worth discussing! (& the thread IS about the flood so.....)

Sept 22 @ 9am, Flood Wall Street. This should be on the front page of this site.

Egos should be kept out of Occupy Wall Street. A good idea is a good idea. Just because it isn't one person's idea, doesn't make it a bad idea.

We should be standing behind this action and encouraging everyone who can get there to do so.

Paradigm Shifting at Work.

Capitalism and Climate Chaos.

You have to see it to believe it. A giant carbon bubble, a polar bear and 1,000 people led by visionary writer Naomi Klein and inspired by her new book This Changes Everything, took over Wall Street for a day to demonstrate that unchecked capitalism (at least the fossil-fueled kind) is destroying our climate. And the NYPD did, in fact, arrest a polar bear:

But it wasn't just a protest. Flood Wall Street also demonstrated some important ways that we can build a new economy - just, fair, and without pollution - by working together. Check out my reportback video to see for yourself and share the message with your friends!

The final count is in. It's not 80,000 or 150,000 people, but more like 400,000 people, by far the largest climate march in history. That's who showed up at the People's Climate March to make history.

Whether you marched with us in the streets of Manhattan, contributed to bus thousands of climate activists to New York or helped with the hundreds of large and small acts to make the #People'sClimateMarch a success — Thank You.

Click here for a quick recap of our best footage from Sunday's March and hear about what's in store this week at the U.N. climate talks taking place.

Check out the video report from yesterday's bold action at FERC, and help us send more front-line fractivists to the People's Climate March!

I love the smell of fractivation in the morning. Yesterday I had the pleasure of stinking up the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) office with fellow fractivists during their commissioners meeting.

We let them know why the proposed Cove Point fracked gas export facility, and others like it, are dangerous for communities, bad for the environment, and overall a bad idea. We let them know that they must provide more information in the form of a detailed Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) before making a decision on Cove Point.

Click here to see the video report of our action yesterday and chip in to help us bring more fractivists like these to New York for the People's Climate March.

FERCwatch video report

Unfortunately, there are other communities like Calvert County who face the specter of dangerous facilities like Cove Point across the country. That's why we're coming together this Sunday and bringing the funk of fractivation to the People's Climate March in New York City.

With your help, we can send more fractivists to New York this weekend for the largest climate march in history. Can you chip in $15, $25 or $50 to help make it happen?

We'll see you in New York City. Let's make it funky,

I am watching a replay of the climate march coverage on the link you provided - http://www.democracynow.org/live/peoples_climate_march - it is so awesome to see all of the people representing all kinds of groups - all getting together to address the need for major change NOW.

Truly inspiring.

The more that they ignore major events like this march - the more they reveal themselves to the public as being pure propaganda sites for their owners designs/desires and as not being related in any way shape or form to being News Reporters.

A rebirth of news services - we see some of that happening over the internet - hence the battle for control of the internet.

[-] 1 points by 99nproud (2697) 9 years ago

Exactly, time will come when MSM conglomerates have been replaced.

People must agitate for public (not profit based) news svc w/o ads

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Yep - it takes public awareness and dissatisfaction with what is - and an opportunity ( growing awareness of alternatives ) to make different choices - in "that" will drive under the propagandist sites as they lose market share.

Just like supporters of the status-quo will put down the emergence of vehicles that reduce the direct use of fossil fuel for motive power. They will never catch on they say - they will never sell they say. One car That I have seen growing by leaps and bounds in the consumer market place - IS - the Toyota Prius. I see the Prius everywhere now - WHY ??? - because it is an alternative that HAS been made available to the public. Now can we go totally off of fossil fuel for motive power? Yep = Tesla for one and as their solar recharge network of stations expand and at home recharge becomes available ( with the use of clean power generation through the utilities ) - wallah = drastic drop in use of fossil fuel.

If the alternative is made available - it "WILL" be used by the public.

[-] 1 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 9 years ago

Just like supporters of the status-quo will put down the emergence of vehicles that reduce the direct use of fossil fuel for motive power.

electric cars still require energy from a power plant

the roads would be safer and fuel would be cheaper if we drove lighter cars

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

electric cars still require energy from a power plant

Thanks captain obvious - but apparently with your comment you overlooked this part of my comment = ( with the use of clean power generation through the utilities )

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

the roads would be safer and fuel would be cheaper if we drove lighter cars

1st the roads would be safer if we drove lighter cars?

Every year cars are built lighter.

What that has caused - is - cars that crumple-up like tin-foil = people crushed.

What that has caused - is - cars that fly for distance and tumble - when they are hit at speed ( lower speed required to cause such as cars continue to lose weight ) = compound/multiple injuries due to kinetic strikes and immediate change of motion as the cars tumble.

2nd fuel efficiency is not limited by weight = weight is not the only element on the functioning of a vehicle. Fuel savings are available through engineering of the engine ( engine stops when car stops - for one ) and through engineering of the transmission = constant variable transmission to reduce the required amount of engine out-put for acceleration to speed and then maintaining speed.

But why continue with fossil fuel - if we can use clean alternatives?

[-] 0 points by 99nproud (2697) 9 years ago

Agreed. More pressure is required

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

And today's climate march shows so beautifully - how much the public at large is getting concerned and involved - is increasing the pressure to make proper change = NOW.

Looks to be a pretty good crowd - hard to tell by the coverage so far as to how big the crowd actually is http://new.livestream.com/jamesfromtheinternet/events/3416732 - I have heard a report of like 3,000 but I don't know - unless they are all packed into a small area - the numbers standing shoulder to shoulder would seem to indicate a larger crowd than just like 3,000.

Complimenting action ->

We’re gearing up for what should be an amazing day in just over a week’s time: The People’s Climate March, on September 21st...and we’re hoping you’ll be marching with us!

There are going to be a lot of messages coming out of the march that we all care deeply about -- anti tar sands, anti-fracking, issues of climate justice and disproportionate impacts, solutions to the climate crisis...the list goes on and on.

Here at Oil Change International, we’ve been thinking about a message we want to be sure our leaders hear loud and clear, and we think you’ll agree: it's time to STOP FUNDING FOSSILS!

As we have seen time and again, our governments are spending billions of dollars each year to subsidize the production of fossil fuels. Furthermore, pension funds, endowments, and other investments provide further capital to fuel our fossil fuel binge even more.

We’ve worked with an amazing artist to create a beautiful image that we’ll be carrying in the march, and we want to invite you to join us in making sure this message is heard loud and clear on September 21st.

Join us in marching to STOP FUNDING FOSSILS!

We’ll be meeting in the “We Know Who Is Responsible” section of the march, and meeting up as a group on Central Park West across from the Northeast corner of the American Museum of Natural History (just below 81st Street).

Please let us know you’ll march with us by signing up here.

Regardless of whether you march in our Stop Funding Fossils bloc, we can’t stress enough how much we hope you’ll join us on September 21st. This march is going to be something special; you won’t want to miss it.

See you in NYC!
