Much like the entire movement, it talks about the problems but suggests no solutions. It does not discuss what 5 things the Tea Party and Occupy can agree on other than that things are screwed up. I predicted a year ago that this movement would end up irrelevant without a clear, concise agenda. Was I wrong?

Yes. You were wrong and you still are..

[-] 1 points by Rael (176) 11 years ago

The movement seems increasingly irrelevant. You have to admit that the mind share of the movement has decreased significantly over the last 6 months. It is a shame really, because the things it is pissed off about deserve attention, but attention without realistic solutions doesn't really help.

They said the same thing about Dr. King and Gandhi.

I guess that makes you the "they" I hear so much about.

How does it feel to be generic?

[-] 0 points by Rael (176) 11 years ago

That was a helpful reply. Do you have links to your assertion in your first sentence?

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Why bother?

You never provided any for yours.

[-] 2 points by Rael (176) 11 years ago

Fair enough, but why the hostility? I googled the phrase "Occupy Wallstreet media attention" and everything about it is dated the fall of 2011. Do you disagree that the mind share in mainstream America is lower now than last fall? My daughter in law went to both Occupy Baltimore and New York. Now she doesn't talk about it. Sure, that is anecdotal, but seems to be fairly typical. Here is a link. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/on-one-year-anniversary-occupy-movement-struggles-for-relevance/2012/09/15/c2849940-fe75-11e1-a31e-804fccb658f9_story.html

I feel no hostility. Don't know where that came from.

A movement of this scope, cannot be summed up so easily.

It's relevance is not limited to a single nation.

In truth, that it has survived it's first year at all is relevant.

Where was Dr. King after one year?

Where was Gandhi?

This movement could take as long as a century to reach full fruition.

Using meaningless terms like "mind share in mainstream America", is........is......Hell, I don't have any idea what that's even supposed to mean.

You were expecting something more like American Idol?

[-] 1 points by Rael (176) 11 years ago

No, I was not expecting American Idol. By the way, it is responses like this and "why bother" that sound hostile. My point is the American public was paying attention last year but the fact that there is no coalescing around any set of proposed solutions means that in large measure the American public has written the movement off. This is a shame as there was real momentum that has, in my opinion, been squandered upon the alter of movement "purity". Much of this is discussed in the link I provided.

OWS has been somewhat driven underground by police and the black out by Main Stream Media.

It will re-sprout, stronger and more powerful.

Ideas are numerous: Transparent government, free public elections, a non-apathetic informed populace, reversal of citizens united; break of duopoly (democrat/republican) hold of government. Media Balance. Focus on solving problems.

If you want other ideas consider: www.voterocky.org

Rocky Anderson, for president, blacked out from Main Stream Media, has lots of ideas for you to consider.

[-] 1 points by Rael (176) 11 years ago

Reversal of citizens united is a real goal. The rest of the things you list are more what used to be called "glittering generalities". Nice ideas but as meaningless as saying you are for motherhood and apple pie if not backed up by specifics of how to accomplish them. I just think the movement would be better served by some more specific goals.

OWS is a tug of war between anarchists and big-government statists, so the kind of consensus that you're imagining has been impossible from the start. Every time anybody suggests focusing on an objective or [gasp] electing candidates, anarchists shout them down. Its much easier to disrupt than to organize, so the anarchists will always win.

http://www.nycga.net/resources/documents/declaration/

Yes. There is a lot of specificity and measurability needed, in the next step.

There's a lot more issues in the declarations, also generalities They need some congressional bills drawn up, amendments, or amendment against citizens united.

That's why I personally find it convenient to back Rocky Anderson for pres, as he has law background, and a lot of positions.

Also, I think recommending some candidates could be good.

That has everything to do with how Occupy was handled in the MSM.

There was a point where a (R)epelican't politico mentioned that Occupy shouldn't be reported, and not long after that, it wasn't. At least not in any kind of positive light.

Today? It's crap like this on FLAKESnews.

yes, I find the misrepresentation of the middle east protest in a similar bind

the media reporting that they are angry of a youtube video is a lie

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

It's a trigger used by religious propagandists to great effect.

Most will never see it. I know I won't.

Great video.

Be united against corporate state, the debt, division, the duopoly, militarism.

It is worth 5 minutes 4 times. Pass it on.

Would you please give us a summary of the five points. People may be more inclined to watch it if you'll give a preview.
