"The lack of such a database is intentional. No government—not the federal government, and not the thousands of municipalities that give their police forces license to use deadly force—wants you to know how many people it kills and why."

Very true. People are saying that the # of Americans killed since 9/11 here is now greater than Iraq. Perhaps that is why we are now reinvading, to tilt the tables.

I am glad that some on the left are realizing that indeed the brutality of the police is a direct result of government gone mad. 78k military rifles and vehicles given to cops this year alone.

Toss in the usual fear mongering -despite the fact society is less violent than ever, and we have a nice cocktail of disfunction.

Of course, keep in mind we kill each other 16,000 times a year. That helps to keep it in perspective. Yesterday, roughly three people in Florida were murdered by their fellow man. Today will be the same. As will tomorrow, and the day after that, etc.

But how many of those are being paid with taxpayer dollars while doing it?

The marketing of guns to Americans ensures there will always be lots of deaths but if the cops turn their guns on the people things will get really ugly.

Good point on the taxpayer issue.

These shootings are all from 2000 so more historical data will help maybe the money will be there to do it. This may become one of the great moments in the new information world where the people use the web to create the data that is needed without permission from the rich, via funding, this could be bigger than Wikipedia.

There are 84 listed already just in Arizona.
