Forum Post: Failure of the American Political System

The debt "super" committee has failed to come up with the 1.2 trillion in spending cuts. The 6 (R), 6 (D) panel has failed because the Republicans won't make any concessions.

They can't conceive of cutting the military (the sacred cow of the GOP). We need the military machine to control oil reserves and enforce our will on the rest of the world.

But they won't budge on taxes either. Even though the Bush tax cuts are set to expire in 2012. They wish to make them permanent. Going back to Clinton Era tax levels would raise $900 billion 2/3 of the their $1.2 trillion goal.

The Republicans control the House thats it. The Dems have the Senate and the Presidency but somehow they (the republicans) have been able to control the dialogue.

Finally the Presidents balls have dropped and he decided to promise a veto on a bill which would repeal the bill which created the automatic cuts to Defense and non-defense spending to the tune of 1.2 trillion upon the failure of the debt reduction committee.

The republicans need a course in Economics. to eliminate trillions from our budget simply by cutting programs would adversely affect our economy. With a potential European Sovereign Debt crisis looming on the horizon and the certain recession it would bring. We desperately need action in Washington. If only the republicans would serve the public good instead of their corporate masters.

The dems & rethugs are on the same side. The side of Fascism. They're just playing "good cop - bad cop" for your entertainment and to keep us divided. Don't drink their kool-aid !! Both are corporatist!

The European Sovereign Debt crisis is just a decoy, a red herring for the fact that the double-deficit nation U.S. is bankrupt. But when a rating agency says so they get slain, so they took a negative bet on Greece.

US bankrupt means they lose their monetary leadership position. The markets currently prepare for Germany or France to overtake their role. China would also gain.

No one was willing to make any concessions, with a 6 and 6 makeup the foolish thing was a waste of time to start with and organized to fail. Even the automatic cuts aren't actually cuts, they simply aren't going to spend as much as they wanted to originally. If you are expecting change from Washington DC, you're going to have to force it yourself, but getting candidates from across the country to run for office and make those changes.

Actually I am a registered Republican voted for Bush in 2004, McCain 2008. But I can't take it when my party wants to cut Veterans benefits or Grandma's Medicare instead of cutting the huge defense budget or god forbid returning to Clinton-era tax levels.

For a Republican you sure spout the Dems lies pretty well. I smell a poser.
