  • Just As Romans Crucified Conquered Citizens...

By Craig Bannister April 25,

Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) took to the Senate floor today to draw attention to a video of a top EPA official saying the EPA’s “philosophy” is to “crucify” and “make examples” of oil and gas companies - just as the Romans crucified random citizens in areas they conquered to ensure obedience.

Inhofe quoted a little-watched video from 2010 of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official, Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz, admitting that EPA’s “general philosophy” is to “crucify” and “make examples” of oil and gas companies.

In the video, Administrator Armendariz says:

“I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting, but I’ll go ahead and tell you what I said:

“It was kind of like how the Romans used to, you know, conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They’d go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they’d find the first five guys they saw and they’d crucify them.

“Then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years.”

“It’s a deterrent factor,” Armendariz said, explaining that the EPA is following the Romans’ philosophy for subjugating conquered villages.

Soon after Armendariz touted the EPA’s “philosophy,” the EPA began smear campaigns against natural gas producers, Inhofe’s office noted in advance of today’s Senate speech:

“Not long after Administrator Armendariz made these comments in 2010, EPA targeted US natural gas producers in Pennsylvania, Texas and Wyoming.

“In all three of these cases, EPA initially made headline-grabbing statements either insinuating or proclaiming outright that the use of hydraulic fracturing by American energy producers was the cause of water contamination, but in each case their comments were premature at best – and despite their most valiant efforts, they have been unable to find any sound scientific evidence to make this link.”

In his Senate speech, Sen. Inhofe said the video provides Americans with “a glimpse of the Obama administration’s true agenda.”

That agenda, Inhofe said, is to “incite fear” in the public with unsubstantiated claims and “intimidate” oil and gas companies with threats of unjustified fines and penalties – then, quietly backtrack once the public’s perception has been firmly jaded against oil and natural gas.

http://cnsnews.com/blog/craig-bannister/epa-officials-philosophy-oil-companies-crucify-them-just-romans-crucified

More Leftist anti-American treasonous actions supported fully by the Obama Demonrats and Proglodyte Liberals that claim to care so much for the "little guy" while stabbing the "middle class" in the back and driving up fuel and energy prices.

Old Fact: EPA established in 1970's by Republican President Nixon

Today's Spin: EPA Official's 'Philosophy' On Oil Companies: 'Crucify Them'

What has changed to make Republicans turn on their own creation and not give a damn about the environment anymore?

Hint: Follow the money.

[-] -3 points by prevere (-56) 12 years ago

Nixon was a RINO and this story ain't "spin".

I'm guessing somebody had to read this to you and they've left the room,so let me clarify, when they return have them read this also. This is a direct quote from Armendariz himself so I don't know how you get "spin" from that.

"Republicans turn on their own creation and not give a damn about the environment anymore? Hint: Follow the money."

Now THAT is "spin" right there,I'll bet you didn't even know you could do it.

[-] 2 points by geo (2638) from Concord, NC 12 years ago

The old 'no true Scotsman' fallacy?

Nixon a RINO? Who else that isn't as extreme as today's right has become? Bush a RINO..... I have heard that Raygunz was really a RINO too...

Will the REAL Republicans please stand up??

[-] 1 points by JadedCitizen (4277) 12 years ago

I like to keep things simple. I asked a simple question and suggested a simple explanation for the about face of the Republican Party. That was my spin, and I was well aware that I could do it, thank you very much.

you're correct !! the epa makes laws and calls them regulations. they are a rogue agency.

we will go an oiling a spoiling away

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

I guess he should have used the term 0 tolerance.

Making examples of offenders has been a staple of the "justice" industry, and used against we little people for some time now.

Why not apply it to corporate offenders, who do a whole lot more damage.

[+] -4 points by prevere (-56) 12 years ago

Ridicules, this is an attempt to vilify and criminalize an industry based on bullshit, fabricated propaganda. This is not about "environmental protection" but about destroying the oil industry to further a Leftist ideology which will make us all poor and miserable in the once richest country in the world.

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Yeah, just apply that stuff to us little people. Everybody knows how innocent the oil corporations are? "Right"?

Everybody knows that oil corporations are absolute defenders of the environment? "Right"?

When did you give up on law and order?

[+] -5 points by prevere (-56) 12 years ago

Just what are the Oil corporations guilty of?

[-] 3 points by ClearTarget (216) 12 years ago

"based on bullshit, fabricated propaganda." Prove it. The article offered no proof. Water contamination - BP oil spill.

"unsubstantiated claims" false

"unjustified fines and penalties" false

"driving up fuel and energy prices." false

As for me, I didn't know the EPA was doing such a fine job. I'll be sure to write them a letter of appreciation. I wonder if they accept donations.

Those poor downtrodden oil companys - oh how my heart goes out to them in their time of need! Those poor suffering waifs of the storm; if only they could find a better tax shelter to keep them out of the cruel elements!

You have touched me to the bottom of my soul! Isn't there some charity for poor deprived oil magnates that I can contribute to? I hate to think of them suffering under the lash of a cruel world. Perhaps if life would only give them a chance they might finally get a (tax) break and be able to fend for themselves in the world!

Do you happen to know of any good charities for poor oil company executives we might contribute to?

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

OH - My - How absolutely funny. Sad thing is that is exactly how they act - like they are impoverished. I look every once in a while to see if there are any on the street wearing a sign and holding out a tin cup "please support big oil" we are struggling.

Oh the hypocrisy.

POLITICAL LABELS

“Democrat”, “Republican”, The parties of the system;

Puppets both, for sale their votes, No character or wisdom.

“Liberal”, “Conservative”, For change or status quo?

Pick either one, the change is none, All charlatans and whores.

Far “Left” we place the Anarchists, Libertarians claim far “Right”;

Yet both decry the government: False continuum brought to light.

For oil, “We” bomb their mud huts, Strip them bare, then offer “Aid”;

And fake their retribution as Pretext – a false flag raised.

Unarmed hundred thousands killed By weapons of “Defense”,

While rights are lost for “Freedom” sake - On profit, all depends.

With stroke of pen, the “Patriot” Act, And patriots’ gifts are taken;

Then “Citizens United” leaves Our citizens forsaken.

We protest loss of liberties, Put “World Wide Web” to use;

Cloudmark Authority censors us For “messaging abuse”.

They label us to finger-point, With labels, “They” deride us;

Their labels keep us all at bay, For with labels, “They” divide us.

I've seen the raw documents that prove the role of speculators. Commodity Futures Trading Commission records showed that in the summer of 2008, when gas prices spiked to more than $4 a gallon, speculators overwhelmingly controlled the crude oil futures market. The commission, which supposedly represents the interests of the American people, had kept the information hidden from the public for nearly three years. That alone is an outrage. The American people had a right to know exactly who caused gas prices to skyrocket in 2008 and who is causing them to spike today.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/28/opinion/sanders-gas-speculation/index.html

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

This is where you get it all backwards.

It's capitalism that has hampered development beyond oil, not the other way around.

Protecting vested interests for over 100 years has blinded most to this simple fact.

[-] 0 points by Craiggiedangit (99) 12 years ago

That's totally true.

development of " alternative engery" is a waste of time and taxpayer money,..............nothing will replace oil , coal and natural gas.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Yeah, "right" .

The barons of the day, said the same thing about electricity replacing gaslights.

So much so, that people in London died to preserve vested interests.

History isn't your strong point........Give it up.

Lying won't help you now.

[+] -4 points by takim (23) 12 years ago

and just when do you think you'll be able to get a plane off the ground using solar , or wind ot algae? the usa has enormous resources of coal, oil and natural gas,..............................the current administration has in interest in making the usa energy independent through these resources. in fact, quite the opposite.

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Which of course, has absolutely nothing to do with what I said.

Like I said Give up. You don't pay enough attention to what's actually happening in the development of these technologies.

[-] -2 points by takim (23) 12 years ago

NOTHING of value . obama spoke about algae as a fuel,...............tell me when you see algae being used to get a 757 off the ground.

Tell me one energy source that does not have issues and that environmentalist want to stop.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Well, you have to clean up after a 3 year old too, so what's the problem with asking corporations to clean up after themselves?

If they did? There would be heck of a lot fewer environmentalists to worry about.......

As an American tax payer, don't you get tired of paying for it?

[-] -2 points by Normalperson1 (119) from Indianapolis, IN 12 years ago

So you can not think of any then? I see you did not answer the question. Every energy source causes problems and you will always have environmentalists wanting you to stop using it.

This in no ways says i want pollution. But I also want to be able to turn on the electricity with out taking a loan out to do it.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

You already have the pollution. It's destroying the air we breath, fouling our water and warming the planet, among other things.

They don't want to clean up, so they find a way to make us pay.

You like that sort of thing , I guess. You think it's OK as long as the lights turn on.

As far as taking out a loan on that? Give 'em time, they're working on it.

It's what they do.

[-] -3 points by takim (23) 12 years ago

Let alone, your personal denial.

Your comment illuminates your pawnship.

[-] 0 points by Normalperson1 (119) from Indianapolis, IN 12 years ago

Nothing will? Even I do not agree with that. The future is not known. But I can say this. No matter what you have and use there will be others that do not agree with that use and will want you to stop using it, or to cut back on it to protect what every it is they want to protect. There is NOT one single energy source that does not have issues and haters from the environmentalist.

[+] -4 points by prevere (-56) 12 years ago

At least 150 yrs can be retrieved but if you listen to Proglodytes we're on the verge of a world wide oil drought and there's no more tomorrow unless we buy a Govt. sponsored Chevy Volt. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

[-] -2 points by takim (23) 12 years ago

the usa has more energy ( oil, coal, natural gas) than we could ever use. obama does not want the usa to use it or become energy independent. he is trying to make oil uncompetitive to push his phoney green companies

Is it prevere, or pervert? Gotta look at these usernames folks. They are often inadvertantly quite revealing; and sometimes not so inadvertantly. One of the latest trolls calls itself necrophilia!!!

Can we infer from this something of the moral character of our adversaries?

[-] 2 points by JadedCitizen (4277) 12 years ago

Yep. probably true both ways. I had designs on BeautifulWorld but it was already taken.

[-] 1 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Yes, if people want to quickly distinguish likely trolls, there are two very clear clues to follow. First is the username - often quite revealing. Second is how long they have been contributing. These guys have to change their usernames frequently, as their motives become more clear the more they post.

If someone genuine comes here for the first time, their good intentions are usually quite clear.

You wouldn't believe some of the grotesque usernames these trolls have used. TheEvilFuckaire comes to mind.

And you are often right in the positive sense as well. BeautifulWorld is one of our best and most stalwart contributors.

I hope this helps people to see what is what:)

[-] 2 points by JadedCitizen (4277) 12 years ago

I suppose they think choosing a more revolting username gives them a psychological edge. I suppose it does in a way. I mean who really wants to converse with TheEvilFuckaire. And for me, it is irritating to deal with someone who goes by the tag Grownup2. (Uh oh. Here comes a grownup to tell the stupid little occupy kids to go home and quit disrupting the world) Sheesh. I already passed the 40 year mark lady. That is so cheesy. I think I would prefer TheEvilFuckaire to that nonsense.

And no matter how many usernames come and go, the tactics are the same. They all execute from the same playbook and few of them have any originality.

government bad. poor are leeches. cut spending. class warfare. jealous. occupiers are hippies. criminals. druggies. democrats are big spenders.

Ugh, they sound like broken records. All they have are cute slogans, using facts out of context, and outright lying. I find very little actual truth to back up any of their claims. And back when I was in my early twenties I used to identify more with conservative ideals than liberal. But they have evolved into an extreme fascist party I don't even recognize anymore. We are living in strange times.

[-] 1 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Agreed with all above. Strange times indeed. Thanks.

fuel and energy prices are driven up by the 1% negligent speculation on energy futures.. nothing to do with liberals or democrats . i do agree with the treason part.. but you need to direct it at the ones responsible. WALLSTREET

Why was Bush blamed for the high gas prices before?.....speculation wasn't given as an excuse then. It was "Bush's fault" the Demonrats all said,Bush and Cheney. But now it's the Speculators not Obama's anti-oil,coal,natural gas jihad.

Funny how that works isn't it?

Wow! Until I read this forum, I didn't realize we have an infinite supply of coal, gas, and oil. Thanks for the info, takim, et. al. This link describes my opinion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTQ1WOC9RgY

Once again, you are judging these politicians/bureaucrats by what they SAY, and not what they DO.

There is no alternative energy here. Every city has one choice of a power plant. The EPA is nothing more than a front to defend the establishment. Make it look like they give a shit.

Not surprised there's only crickets on this post. Most Leftist's on this forum don't want to admit what we've all known about Obama and his war against cheap energy/oil/gas. The EPA needs to be abolished, this is treasonous and this man should be jailed in GITMO.
