It is unlikely we can win over the police here. The army vets are certainly on our side though. Police appear to have had it easy - soldiers not so.

That is not entirely true - police were very antagonistic toward the civil rights and anti-war movements of the 60s.

Would these movements have accomplished more with effective outreach to this segment of the 99?

Absolutely.

Would they have done so in less time?

Most certainly.

They are, above all, American citizens, with rights and responsibilities, just like us. They are victims of the politics of division, just like us. They have as much at stake as we do.

Gene Sharp, author of "From Dictatorship to Democracy," asserts that for democratic change to be effective, we have to convince police that their interests are also at stake. Ask them about forced overtime, withdrawn pensions, whether they miss their families, and the need for SEPARATION OF CORPORATION AND STATE!
