Forum Post: Endgame?

I believe deeply in what the Occupy Everywhere movement is doing for the national consciousness. Those in power have grown overly comfortable, and a little discomfort is needed to bring the issue to prominence. But, I must ask what exactly is being accomplished now--two months into the protest--that wasn't accomplished when this first started? Pinch a man in the arm and you hurt him; continue to pinch in the same place, and eventually he will get used to it. That's what happening now; America is getting used to this pinch. A new approach have to be taken to prevent the movement from becoming an interesting footnote in American history.

Flash mobs are an interesting idea, but they tend to cause backlash from the people you are trying to inspire. Police violence will escalate as long as the Occupy sites provide a static target.

I suggest a three-prong attack. 1) If the police attacks an Occupy site, just move to a new site without fuss. What this would do is force the powers that be to shut down on the entire city--since they have no idea where the new occupy site will be--and forces non-involved citizens to consider the issues in play. 2) Take it to the Internet. I know that Occupy Everywhere has a large footprint on the Internet now; but, it should be expand. Barack Obama ran his 2008 campaign online; the Occupy Movement should see this as a campaign, too--a campaign for the soul of America. You shouldn't be able to social network anywhere with running into the Occupy Movement. 3) Ultimately, true change in this nation comes through the vote. That should be the Movement's endgame. There should be a stated and agreed upon "wants list" for changes the movement wants to see; hell, there should be several--as this is not one group, but several with a common goal. We should endorse candidates that share our views and values, and we should get him elected with voter drives, flash campaigning, and by making sure we all vote for the change we want.

Finally, we have to stand together. Some of us are socialists (there's nothing wrong with that), some are moderates, some are anarchists, and some are frustrated Republicans. But, we all agree that there is something fundamentally wrong with the country and the world. We must stand together and we must support each other. If not, we will fall separately.

I can't see how else this will pan out to a positive conclusion. But, that's just my opinion.

Go to City Hall Park. It's much bigger and the mayor's office is nearby. He is fine with the protest and said they can stay as long as they like. He should have no problem with OWS protesting there.
