Forum Post: Does OWS activities serve any purpose beside seeking their name in print?

After months of 'occupation' i still have yet seen ANY decision makers/politicians/companies/unions seriously discuss changes.

Thus the only purpose of OWS seems to be getting media coverage to increase donations to line the pockets of the 'nameless leaders'

Obviously something isn't working if you are seeking change. On the other hand, if you are seeking donations.. hows that workin out? what exactly are you spending it on now that you dont have a park to occupy?

How would you feel if you discovered that OWS was funding a National General Assembly to be held in Philadelphia July 4th in a $40,000 conference center and transparently funding the election of two delegates from each congressional district to the NGA? There the delegates finalize a List Of Grievances (as per the 1st Amendment) to be served upon all three branches of government with this Resolve:

" V. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that IF the PETITION FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES approved by the 876 Delegates of the NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY in consultation with the NINETY-NINE PERCENT OF THE PEOPLE, is not acted upon within a reasonable time and to the satisfaction of the Delegates of the NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY, said Delegates shall reconvene to utilize the grassroots network established in the election of the NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY to organize a new INDEPENDENT POLITICAL PARTY to run candidates for every available Congressional seat in the mid-term election of 2014 and again in 2016 until all vestiges of the existing corrupt corporatocracy have been eradicated through the power of the ballot box."

Listen, this movement is not even three months along. Already it is shaking up the discourse and has forced some changes.

I was a high school student when the March On Washington for Jobs and Freedom (The famous MLK "I have a dream" march took place. With some others from my school, I went to a warm up rally that was held at the Polo Grounds (the stadium of the then NY baseball Giants). the rally was a flop. The "conservative" kids teased me and the others who were for the MLK march and they along with the media said that the march on Washington ws going to be a failure. They were wrong, but we know that even now that fight is not even almost done.
