The problem is not so much whether you vote for A Democrat or a third party candidate. Many of us are going to have to make some hard choices in the next general election. The main problem on here, to me is people trying to conflate, and merge our revolution into the Democratic Party. That D vs R debate is what the corrupt elites want us to think is our 'only' choice.
The two party system is where struggles go to die, and both parties are experts at quelling discontent by coopting them. And then returning us to the same old crap.
Building a strong alternative third party is not something that Sanders has done in Vermont or on a national level. When you say that any goal is "futile, " you are predisposing yourself to failure. And yes, I know that statement can be taken and used either way.

Good post. I agree; "Nothing worth having comes easy." I think we all wish that this would go quickly, but we are coming to the realization that we are in this struggle for the longer haul. It is time that we should use to build our skills at educating other people, building resistance, strong alliances and pacing ourselves. Inevitably we will will find ourselves alongside kindred spirits many of whom we will bring into our lives. Being there for each other, especially our families is paramount for our success. The cameradie that will develop will be strong and to a large degree, it will sustain us on our endeavor, as it will also offset most of the discomfort that we may encounter. Along the way, we need to remind ourselves, and each other that our goal, is a righteous one, and that the stakes of having this corrupt system continue are unacceptable. It is in our hands...the World we leave for our progeny.
Building a viable third party that opposes the two corporate owned parties should be one of our early goals. The fact that Sanders chose to run as Democrat hinders the chance of that happening. In his position as a Congressman, he has had the opportunity to build a powerful alternative, and he didn't in his home state or on a national level, rather he capitulated to the Democrats. Nobody who claims to be a socialist can be an imperialist too.

For some people in Occupy, Obama's concerted actions to crush the camps was the last straw.
