It is the GOVERNMENT'S right to take care of it's people, for it is the PEOPLE who elected the leaders. If the government CANNOT properly take care of the people they are responsible for, then justice must be executed. I am under the believe that a democracy should listen to it's people, and that a government should also offer free health care, provide food and shelter for the homeless, but most all-- SHOULD UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PANDER! Wall Street is teeming with panderers and they should be brought to justice. This is democracy. Many people wrongly fear socialism, but if one researches it properly, one will examine that socialist governments actually CARE for its people. In capitalism, there is an uneven flow of money in the economy, but in socialism, money is equally distributed. I am telling you, a DEMOCRATIC/SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT IN THE US IS POSSIBLE AND THE ONLY WAY!

Democratic Socialism is the way to go! Everyone has to remember that socialism is not incompatible with democracy, it is only incompatible with capitalism. We are criticizing the economic system of our country and how it influences our government and government choices. And really, a true democracy by/for/of its people would be socialist, because it would care about all of its citizens.

Words are definitely charged...and this one is a doozy in our little federation. I tend to be further to the left of most of my compatriots and still avoid this word because it shuts people down out of red fear. Social democracy perhaps.... I've noticed right-wing postings tend to call the Nazi party socialist, no doubt the fall-out from a Beck history lesson. When a country gives more priority to its economic system (capitalism) than to its political system (democratic republic) - over time it's bound to create a bunch of lesser-educated folks who don't have the tools to participate in democracy but end up being the tools of capitalism.

There's a problem with the forum that doesn't let newly registered people post.

democratic social services. Calling it socialism is simply repeating the repugnicon error and ignorance. Socialism is a specific system, social services do not in any way imply or relate to socialism. Same root word, no relation, your accidentally picking up the wrong foot ball to run with. Other than that i agree with what you MEAN. But its sad to see you accidentally proving yourself as ignorant as the repugs who use the term "socialism" ignorant of what the word actually means in political science.

The conservative propaganda has created such hatred about the word socialism. More people hate just the word socialism and their perceived understanding of the same than Nazi rule.

agreed. No point in fighting on that front. We are not socialists. We are in favor of evolved and evolutionary social services. The problem with this country is its gone to hell for corporations. It is the right and proper place of government to provide social services. Thats the whole function of government. Social services and socialism have the same root word but are not even slightly related. Making the mistake of conflating them is usually done by them in ignorance as a cheap insult. We don't need to repeat that mistake. Egalitarian social services are not socialism. They are needed, they are important, and they are crucial to call ourselves a modern or evolved or civilized civilization.
