Forum Post: Decent Forum, Anyone?

Is there a decent OWS forum for adult discussion, without the anti-Semitism, people hating on OWS, people hating on the haters of OWS, conspiracy theories, weird and unfounded economic theory and general pissing contest?

this website is the first hit when googling OWS, which is good. then people see what OWS's flagship forum looks like...not so good. Bear in mind that America is not the only place where an occupy movement is happening. Other people from other nations want to learn about this too. there are decent posts here, but these are getting fewer and fewer since I first started following OWS about a month ago. Eventually, trolls who realize there's no one to stop them either continue posting, or flood in. Decent forum visitors who realize there's a troll infestation stop posting.

If you support my sentiment, bump this thread or sticky it somehow, or get some moderators to lay out unambiguous guidelines and enforce them (lack of regulatory oversight, btw, is one of the contributing factors to the 2007 crisis).

If not, somebody please provide a link to a well-moderated forum, so I can visit it to learn more about OWS.

These trolls are everywhere because the Tea Party trains them to be trolls. They tell them go out, lie, disrupt etc. People need to come out and be on the boards if they aren't in the street. You can even sign into Yahoo and give their posts a thumbs down to show everyone who the real majority is! I'm serious, cast a vote against the crap show. They are out there, patting each other on the back and we should be out there supporting OWS as well.

And OMG they do lie, lie, lie and stick to their lies no matter what.

They are so effective at messaging, brainwashing, defining the narrative.

I Know! The lies and hate. Actually a study revealed that die hard republicans have enlarged fear centers in their brain. I'm not even joking about it. Their brains are somewhat defective, clearly it negatively impacts their decision making. The republican party line is geared to appeal to people with a medical condition. The 1% understands how to manipulate them. Its rather like taking advantage of the mentally retarded. I have a special needs child but her fear center seems perfectly intact, thank God. She totally gets OWS! Anybody and I mean anybody can find the truth if they but look for it. It takes a special kind of person to be brainwashed by republicans. That's why they must control the media and boards, they must depend on hiding the facts from the masses and convincing their followers they are in the majority when in fact they are NOT! The tea party is afraid of OWS because the 1% is afraid of OWS. OWS supporters are their neighbors, their workers, sitting beside them at church. A lot of people have bit their tongue because they are uncomfortable around such "special" people and feel like educating them is a lost cause. We need to understand they are fearful of pretty much everything and that makes them lash out at anyone they believe they are able to hurt. They are too afraid to protest like OWS. They would be CRUSHED if Fox News said a disparaging word about THEM. Stop by troll infested boards and be counted. Apparently some people are easily swayed over to the side of the masses simply because they have the numbers. Its obvious to me OWS has the numbers in this case and without media support. OWS is saying what a lot of people have been sitting at home quietly thinking. But really, if you can't be on the street, be online taking back the internet from trolldom!

The links above all go either directly to moderated forums or to web sites that have moderated forums, I can't say much to how "good" or "bad" these forums are, I figure peek around and between the link @Karen provided and these, each can decide which fit them best.

I am happy here with all the chaos and opposing voices--there are plenty of other true believers like me who can work together on the moderated sites to discuss logistics, so I can take the long view, and from that angle and my way of looking at this, this site is actually going to be at least as important, if not more, than any of the moderated organizing forums.

So I will stay here, smacking down the truly nasty trolls so their lies don't sit unchallenged and they can't do much more than act as an unsightly nuisance instead of doing the real damage they are intent on.

And I'll stay to debate with supporters who in their enthusiasm get a little too strident in that "it's my way or the highway" mode that all of us can get caught up in on occasion when passionately fighting for the things that matter to us all. I've seen supporters argue as vigorously with each other here as with non-trolling people who are not supporters but here engaging with us anyway.

And the most important reason that some of us need to stay is to find out who are trolls and who are creatures of a very different sort. Not all of today's seeming trolls are so easy to pin down and some will become the kinds of outside allies who can teach us how to reach out and be more inclusive than we will know how to be without them, and will do the same for the factions they represent, helping bridge some of the differences that are causing great uproar in here at the moment. And some will never be allies and will argue with us every step of the way, but anger spent, will be the kind of worthy opponents that keep us honest and keep us seeing what's going on outside of our comfort zones.

Because if we really are going to enact comprehensive and significant reforms to fix some of what's broken and create a system where all have the opportunity to benefit from their hard work, and we can be confident that our vote even matters-- then we are going to need to do it together. We need to include everyone at the table, and we need to re-learn how to compromise where we can, and where compromise is impossible we need to know how to brainstorm new ideas together that work well enough for everyone.

Aside from a relatively small faction of opponents who are here to ensure we fail and have no intention of ever working toward a common goal (who make themselves seem stronger by posting 10 posts an hour and using multiple accounts), much of the noise in here is just part of a necessary and inevitable process. When folks who have sniped at each other from the safety of our respective insulated political echo chambers for 20 years, and on the whole only have engaged each other directly every two to four years when we come out to knock the shit out of each other in a political deathmatch, find themselves tossed together trying to figure out how to create a true inclusive and representative coalition so we can work together toward a goal, (no not even that, since first we must actually agree upon a goal) this is the result-- the shitstorm that is this forum.

And so we'll compete in here to drown each other out, and for now we will enjoy it. We have demonized each other for so long, getting to call each other ass-hat and moron and not in drive by fashion as usual, but where we know we'll be seeing the same people again the next day, and the next, is cathartic :) hopefully we can get beyond that since we are trying to compete in a game where the ball's been snatched away from the players and the court bulldozed and we need to come together to somehow fix it, because until we manage that, this competition is an illusion. And collaboration means everyone needs to give a little, no one gets to insist they get everything their way, because this is a whole different game, and if any one group keeps trying to edge out every single idea from other factions and insist everyone follow their entire program, well then I guess the tolls win :)

I am hopeful, I have a basic belief in the goodness of people--it's easy for people to hate a theoretical construction "Fascist Right Winger" "Dirty Communist Atheist" etc, etc, etc, but when face to face with real complicated people, for most of us hate eventually becomes an untenable position. I may be wrong, but either way, this is the place where I'll have a chance to see.

Going to another forum is allowing ourselves to be divided and spread out. At least if we are all here, we all get to see the "infiltrators". They wish they were trolls.

http://politics.salon.com/2010/01/15/sunstein_2/

We should treat them all the same IF they will not recognize that this movement is really about creating a constitutional government. Yes, that is what it is really about even though the people of it do not seem to know it. The signs don't say that and you don't hear it, but that is what it is about because that is the only way to meet demands lawfully. Any other way could ultimately be deemed unconstitutional. The assemblys depend on constitutional rights. We have never known a constitutional government. We need an article 5 convention NOW!

Try this one.

It's not hugely active, but well moderated.

And yes, I actually thought weeks ago they should have shut this down if they couldn't keep it moderated.

I vote for only one rule on this forum. Everyone must be a OWS lover.
