...when you're rousted by the police.
Right now, the remnants of OWS are running around uncoordinatedly in various locations around lower Manhattan, trying in vain to find a new spot to occupy. Gee, having leadership or a real plan might have come in handy at this point, but why have a plan when your main "message" is one of outrage?
We're supposed to be shocked and outraged at the 1%, shocked and outraged at the NYPD, shocked and outraged at Bloomberg, and shock and outrage is supposed to make everything better.
Nobody at Zuccotti planned for this eventuality, it's quite obvious now. Pretty sad. Some "movement."
Sad, but true.
Just another example of how anarchistic theories fall short in reality. Regardless, the moderators and curators of this website have become the de-facto leaders, seeing as they control the primary means of communication.
They also serve as censors.
1% of the 99%. they 'got some splainin' to do'
you've read the 99% Declaration? Why isn't the money from OWS being used to hold the National General Assembly? https://sites.google.com/site/the99percentdeclaration/ Surely now there can be a consensus?
I've read the declaration though its origins are vague. Certainly comprehensive in scope and fairly representative of a sizable portion of the Occupiers. Reform or Revolution? That is what divides us. The loudest Occupiers are Revolutionaries who have given up on Washington altogether.
Those who fought the war of independence didn't want their descendants to have to go through that ever again. No one has to die. The 99% has the right tools, we need to relearn how to use them. Not easy, not impossible. BTW have you read the Declaration Of Desperation?
Apparently, the plan is to just keep doing the same thing they were doing before, except... somewhere else. (Somewhere farther away from actual Wall Street, it seems.)
This looks like a movement that has run out of ideas, or never actually had them in the first place. In other words, this is a bunch of glorified homeless people. (Not to insult the homeless, since they at least don't pretend to be doing what they do for "political" reasons.)
The ideas are out there. Example : https://sites.google.com/site/the99percentdeclaration/
yep, thats what happens with leaderless movements. Occupy Portland was going strong, then in one day it was taken out. though the weather also helped.
The vague openess of OWS did what it STARTED out to do-
it woke up millions! Job well done!
Now it's time for constructive action.
Millions now see the BS that the 1% like koch, murdoch, cheney have dumped on us. There may even be some republicans who are so ashamed of their candidate circus - they may even be ready to join the sanity. But sanity is not based on leaderlessness and process and philosophical wish lists for an ideal society.
Yes I would like to tax 90% of the kochs wealth. But that is not reality.
We need real leaders and real goals -
and the courage to work - not wish.
The 90% majority bit was pretty stupid. "Tyranny of the majority" is better than getting nothing done.
I'm pretty sure everyone at Zuccotti park figured that this would happen sooner or later. Shock and outrage get other people thinking. That is a large portion of the movement right now, getting people to talk about what is going on. This will certainly make people talk :)
Occupy has been making people talk and making people think since week one. Eventually you have to move beyond that, and not by disrupting the subways, but by having a real political agenda and taking it to Washington.
This has been the opinion of many about the movement. It will be interesting to see if they heed the advice of those who push for demands.
There's really no choice now. People are losing jobs BECAUSE of this so called movement. People are fed up with the crime, the smell, the noise and the disruptions. All public support will eventually disappear unless there is some real action. I can guarantee you one thing, if protesters are allowed back and simply put the tents back up and start drumming again, no one will take this seriously at all. And at that point they shouldn't have to.
Personally, I still think its interesting to be gross and disgusting in front of everyone's face. Some people live this way all year round not by choice. Solidarity with the homeless!
Like I said, no reason to take this seriously.
only time will tell....
Agreed. will they use the money to organize a National General Assembly? Or is that 'not what the movement is about' garbage going to continue to drive OWS into the history books as an epic fail?

The non-leader leaders are probably at the bank right now dividing up the money, getting ready to beat feet out of town.
I wouldn't be surprised! I say let 'em take it if it gets them out of the way, they are the 1%. Now let's start talking about Philadelphia...
