Counter attack.

Please contribute counter attack ideas to stop the TV spammer on this thread.

IDEA: Contact general@occupywallst.org and ask that they institute an email verification registration process that can at least slow down the butt hole who is spamming the forum.

IDEA: Search on Google the names being used. If there appear to be any that are connected to actual people post the information about those people here for the tech minded folks to plan counter attacks. And to inform the forum admin, if they ever notice this problem.

Here is information gleaned from Google searches of some of the names that are spamming the OWS forums with TV links and hacking crap.

How can we use this information?

One of the oldest real sounding names authoriting this crap is dominickgrandin5677. I googled: dominickgrandin5677

The oldest posting on Google "authored" by that name was Oct. 13 on a rugby blog.

http://walesvsfranceliverugbystreamonline1.spi-blog.com/

"http://spi-blog.com/" is a free blog hosting service.

If its the same person who is spamming with free TV "minggiro" seems to be Indonesian and they have a song posted in MP3 format around the web.

The following asshole is all over the Internet.

"intertainment7" has several blogs on Google's blogger so I am sure that if we complain to Google they will boot his/her butt off Blogger. Here is the profile page: this user name also seems to have links in Indonesia. This email: "intertainment2025@gmail.com" appeared on one Google entry.

http://www.blogger.com/profile/02247368835776051030

I found this on YouTube about Intertainment7:

"intertainment - The Entertainment for the Internet. Welcome to me interactive network: -My Website: www.intertainment.co.nr -My Email: intertainment@ymail.com -My Youtube: intertainment7 At the moment i am offering my graphic designer services to anyone who needs them (makeing websites, making logos, making banners e.t.c) Please contact me for futher information on prices." http://www.youtube.com/user/intertainment7

Anyone who can make use of this information PLEASE DO!

While searching Google for "kamal123" I found numerous postings related to IT job postings by him/her based in Australia. When I went to one of the more legitimate looking links with several IT job postings and implying that kamal123 was a visual programming IT engineer my computer went all kinds of bonkers. Including a system level request to erase all browser history for the past hour.

And yet again there were Indonesian links and Pakistani links on Google related to "kamal123".

I contacted the forum admins with some suggestions and they will do nothing more than they have been doing... which is almost nothing

That leaves it to us to take the law into our own hands.

Spammer fears email verification of new forum registrations. Write to the admin and ask for email verification of new forum registrations.

This site might help the moderators: http://www.stopforumspam.com/

It has up-to-date lists of known Internet spammers. If we're being attacked by a team of people who do this for a living, they might be on that list.

You can do the following on this site:

  • Download IP addresses of known spammers to help filter the forum.
  • Access lists of IPs using their API to cross check against IPs of known spammers. (WARNING: They don't allow checking every IP since this would create a DOS attack on their servers.)
  • Contribute by reporting known spammers.
  • Search for spammer usernames.
  • Etc...

So is this why you cause so much trouble here? You think OWS is going to use YOUR solution to spam? Talk about the wolf guarding the chicken coop!

[-] -1 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

I'm not sure I understand your question. This is not a solution to spam. It's a solution to stop spam. OWS doesn't need to use it. It's a suggestion.

Spammer will hate this.

Thanks for posting it. I'll go visit and see what I can use as an individual without admin privileges.

If these spammers are using their personal computers to spam this site, adding their IP to this site's database would be very discouraging for them as many sites use the database from stopforumspam.com and so they would lose immediate access to many sites on the Internet that they might be browsing in their leisure time. I highly recommend that the moderators report the IPs of all known spammers to this site. The best way is to create a small script that uses their API so it could be done with a click of a button via this website's admin panel.

What if he has one of those programs that keeps changing his IP ?

[-] 0 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

You could temporarily ban the whole region he's from. This would of course also ban legitimate users from that region. If he's using a proxy server, you can ban the IP of that proxy server. It's a cat and mouse game of course. That's why the site I linked to is constantly updating their database.

If this person has people all over the world doing this you got your work cut out for you

I haven't verified on my end, but your claim that many of these spammers are Indonesian makes sense. It's currently 12:50am here in Indonesia, and I see that spamming seems to have slowed down. If a bunch of these spammers are Indonesian it makes perfect sense as they would be in New-Year Eve parties. I'll check tomorrow to see if they are back at work spamming the site.

Email verification is a good idea. It doesn't hurt legitimate users and does slow down spammers if their accounts get banned by the moderators since they would have to make a new one each time. Two thumbs up for that idea.

Email verification of new registrations could be a solution.

[-] -1 points by survivor514 (65) 12 years ago

I have a better idea

Why dont we just see if he's got some better programs. I'm getting tired of watching old sports. How about some nice classic black and white comedies ?

[-] -1 points by painport (26) 12 years ago

Take it from someone who "spams" your forum: email verification is not the solution.

[-] 1 points by aahpat (1407) 12 years ago

Spammer opposes email verification.

Why am I not surprised?

Suit yourself.

I have something better coming up tomorrow.
