We need a constitutional amendment stating that only "human beings" are people under the constitution and only "human beings" may make political contributions. See details in the following blog:
I proposal that all private donations be banned for political candidates(soft money is a trickier issue). We should even ban candidates from using their own money for political campaigns.
Instead we should use tax dollars to fund campaigns. These could be allocated by having a lottery. One voter out of say every 10,000 would be selected at random-and given a fund they could allocate as they wish among political candidates. Candidates would thus be negotiating with a cross section of the population when running for office.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner. And lobbyist cannot donate either. Once there was a time where the average American could go to congress with a bill and it was debated and voted upon, now those are called earmarks and they are squeezed into bills for corporations, not people.
I agree with:"only "human beings" may make political contributions". But even then, people would find loopholes to get around this. There is only one way to rid ourselves of this legalized BRIBERY problem also known as lobbying; that is to abolish campaign contributions altogether until we can come up with a better system. I don't know about you but the homeless guy on the street should have a voice just like the corporate CEO. I say this because as longs we have politicians for sale our system can never truly be democratic. Politicians will simply have no choice but to appease the highest bidder.
Think about it, the root of every problem we face as a country regardless as to political beliefs boils down to who's willing to pay the most money to see their agenda done. Oh and if you don't believe me, ask yourself when was the last time you tracked down your congressman or senator in the capital between meetings and offered up a large sum of money in order to see a piece of legislation passed that best interested you?
If you let any one donate you essentially put our politicians up for sale. The homeless man in the streets with not 1 single penny in his pocket should have the same say and power as the richest person in this country.
Fund political campaigns with tax dollars.
Remove special interest groups and lobbyists from Washington. Special interest groups and lobbyists can not be allowed to have any contact with our politicians outside of an open public forum.
Make all campaign donations illegal. And i mean ALL of them ! this includes donations From you , me, corporations. No donations at all ever !
Do these three things and every one from the lowly street beggar to the elite will own and control the spoiled children, AKA politicians.
