I've started a petition to limit congressional terms. It needs 25,000 signatures by Dec 27th. If we are serious about government reform, we need to get career politicians out. Please read and sign, and pass it along. It's a step in the right direction. Thank you.

This should be News and should get Top Priority Attention. Good Work.

Keep bringing it up at peak times, OWS Moderators should ensure this gets the right attention it deserves.

The beginning of action and results. After all as is said, success breeds success.

Nothing can protect the people from their own stupidity..

We have term limits already.

  1. Vote.

  2. Don't vote for the cretins.

I have a real problem in refusing to allow historical perspective to accumulate in a seat of power that really needs perspective.

And I really have a problem with the basic anti-democracy nature of term limits. If people want to re-elect a person to represent their interests then they should have that right.

I don't want to dumb down Congress anymore than it already is. And I want to expend democratic rights whenever possible, not constrict them.

You fail to recognize that the president of the US has term limits..2 only. The same should be said of Congress. The problem with leaving it to voters is two-fold; money (which can buy elections) and name recognition (which campaign managers capitalize on). People, sadly, aren't smart enough to vote someone out as often as they should. If they don't know who the 'other' guy is, they will stick with what they know, no matter how bad or ineffectual that person is....

The historical memory issues are quite different. The president has the historical memory of Congress to draw upon.

Or are you saying that experience counts for nothing in statesmanship?

it is a lack of experience and historical perspective that has given us a bunch of dullards in the Congress today.

Historical memory is a matter of record, documents recorded that can be drawn upon at any time. It need not be attached to career politicians whose interests are not the same as that of the people who voted them in. They're politicians, after all, not objective historians.

The issue is perspective. Something that obviously escapes you.

Perspective doesn't escape, and neither does abuse of power which is what this is all about. Does that escape you? And tell me how this back and forth is helping anything? If the people of OWS can't even get it together amongst themselves to get something done besides protest in the streets, then what is the point?

OWS people in Ohio were integral to successfully overturning a law that limited union rights there.

OWS people in Wisconsin are integral to a recall of governor Walker petition campaign.

While some in OWS deny political activity those who are activating and engaging the political system are effecting great change.
