Forum Post: Close YOur Bank Account

I can't stress how important it is to strike while the iron is hot. The best way to show our power is to strike at their most vulnerable part. Their money. Peace wins. OWS uses the proven method of winning...peace. We will gain some advantage with numbers and words but we will win when we close our bank accounts. Then we can watch the banks bleed out and revel in their demise. Don't use their money. Don't be fooled into thinking that they offer services. They are thieves! Close your bank account! Spread the word everywhere.

Guys...I took my $13 out. This will single-handedly bring down Chase bank. You retards can thank me later!

13 dollars. HAHAHAHAHA you are so poor. That must suck

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

Wow. I want to thank you now. You obviously understand that every penny counts and every comment worth a million dollars. Single-handedly is a beautiful way to start a journey of a trillion dollars.

Close your accounts. Transfer your money to a credit union in your local community where you are a shareholder - Please!

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

Good move. I already did that with the money I have left. They stole most of it. We want way from the big names and back to the people. How can we make this viral?

bank transfer day coming November 5

"Bye bye, banks: 650,000 switched to credit unions last month! November 4, 2011 By Jeremy Bloom Leave a Comment WP Greet Box icon X Welcome Googler! If you find this page useful, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.

bank transfer day coming November 5

November 5 has been designated Bank Transfer Day or Move Your Money day, the day to send the message to the too-big-to-fail Wall Street banks that they have failed us.

But it looks like the tsunami has already begun. The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) says that some 650,000 people have opened credit unions in the past month – more than in all of 2010.

Finally, common sense, education. Good. keep it up. I made my move a long time ago and now advocate taking money from big banks and putting it local. Where they don't invest with Madoff and his likes.

People should support local and community currency initiatives. The only way that non-violent resistance movements have succeeded in generating social change and justice in the past is through boycotts (Ghandi, MLK). Ithaca New York, Berkshire Massachussetts and many other communities have local currencies, and about 14 states have legislative initiatives this year to issue their own state currency (as the Constitution calls for). The more diversified the currencies in use, the more decentralized and democratized the money-making power will be. This has been done in Argentina, and Germany, UK, Canada, New Zealand and other places have numerous local currencies also. If we are to effectivey challenge the Fed, concerned citizens everywhere must organize and issue the people's money, interest-free and have it circulate and reinvest locally, and have free market competition between all currencies.

Some suggest a Credit Union account as a viable alternative to a bank account. Is this fact? We need well informed discussion of alternatives.

So far it is because they are small and won't invest your money with their uncle.

According to the organizer, "Together we can ensure that these banking institutions will always remember the 5th of November!! If the 99% removes our funds from the major banking institutions to non-profit credit unions on or by this date, we will send a clear message to the 1% that conscious consumers won't support companies with unethical business practices.

• Research your local credit union options • Open an account with the one that best suits your needs • Cancel all automatic withdrawals & deposits • Transfer your funds to the new account • Follow your bank's procedures to close your account before 11/05" http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=281139538577206

Here is what I suggest:

Do not move all of your funds. To put this big of a strain on the system may be irresponsible. Move some of your money out. Just opening an account will send the signal we need.

I agree close your bank account and buy Bitcoin with the proceeds!

That will show those banksters!

[-] 1 points by ThiagoCMC (1) from Sao Paulo, São Paulo 12 years ago

I'm a Bitcoin Miner from Brazil... I'm about to close my bank accounts too. No one needs that bank shit... The Bitcoin is a AWESOME tool to end Bank Cartels! With just ONE computer software, we can end FED. The only solution is #WORLDREVOLUTION!

[-] 1 points by maxkoda (52) 12 years ago

Look into an open source project called "Open Transactions". It is a complementary to Bitcoin. We are looking to use Bitcoin as the reserve currency and extend capabilities to include untraceable/anonymous digital cash, trading exchanges and more.

Check it out at: https://github.com/FellowTraveler/Open-Transactions/wiki

Use small banks or credit unions!! If you have an account in Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo or a big bank you are part of the problem!!!

exactly

[-] 1 points by michboomers (2) 12 years ago

We are "boomers" and so disgusted that we are closing our Chase accounts and moving them to our local bank who took no TARP money. we encourage all who can to go "TARP-less" and support your local small town banks and credit unions.

Why don't you spread the real word. It's somebody else's fault. Not mine. I don't have any culpability in the issue. It's all someone else's fault. They(whoever they are) created my problems.

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

Sadly it is unclear when we use words like 'banks'. They are corporations and that makes it hard to see them as people with bonuses. Mea Culpa. I am okay with admitting my faults and mistakes. Time for a change, no?

[-] 0 points by Kickinthenuts (212) 12 years ago

It's really relatively simple. You don't like the way someone does business, don't do business with them. Find someone else. Don't like the fees a certain bank charges, move your money. These fees and the way big banks do business have been going on for decades. Nothing new. Blame yourself if you didn't get it before now. I moved my money years ago from wells Fargo and bofa. Don't need a bunch of folks camping out asking for welfare for me to get it. Take responsibility for your own lives.

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

Protesting is taking responsibility. The banks have been doing business that way for decades but not for ever. Not before the deregulation that put us in this position. It is simple. Arrest those that stole. Surely you're not for stealing?

[-] 0 points by Kickinthenuts (212) 12 years ago

Oh come on. A bank charging a fee is defined as stealing from you? It is outrageous for a bank to charge you to use your own money, but it is not stealing. Our government charges you taxes and fees for services. Is that stealing? Come on now, have at least a little grip on reality.

You first.

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

Done. I refuse to let them hold my money. I also have no money because of them.

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 12 years ago

How did the banks steal your money?

ps - I agree, credit unions are the way to go.

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

The story is long. I am a product of our recession as well as a puppet perpetrator before I got wise. I was in banking but had no savings because I couldn't rip people off. Now that there is no job, I have nothing left to live on. When you earn commission, you get no unemployment insurance, no benefits at all. Health insurance...hah. nothing but the kindness of friends and family. No one hires baby boomers. Who am I kidding? No one hires anyone these days. Let's try to get everyone to close their account. I live to see OWS change the world. I love the millions of young people. I am a proud American again.

[-] 1 points by alfi (469) 12 years ago

I too am a proud American again since the 17th of Sept 2011.

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

Don't despair. We will make a great stand and, dare I say, win. Time will tell but we are stronger than ever. Be vigilant and be honest.

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 12 years ago

How do you get commission in banking? (serious question, I don't know)

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

Mortgage consultants...brokers. But not enough to live through a recession if you weren't one of the ones responsible for bringing this plague.

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 12 years ago

Ok, thanks. Hope it gets better for you.

[-] 0 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

You too. All of us.
