Two weeks ago, the Pentagon quietly released a statement that another Guantanamo detainee had died in custody, the ninth since the prison was opened in 2001. Adnan Farhan Abdul Latif, a 32-year-old man from Yemen who had spent eleven years incarcerated, was found dead in his cell on September 8.

Guantanamo is simply an unbelievable evil, conceived in evil. Most of its residents were turned in for bounties, but no proof was needed -- in fact most were/are innocent of any acts of violence. It was as though I could turn you in, or you could turn me in for a few thousand dollars.

Nothing accidental here though, it was/is a designed charade to convince the Eloi that we live in such a dangerous world that terrorists have to be rounded up, held in an island jail and tortured to protect us.

Guantanamo was designed as a psy-op. The architects knew they were torturing innocent people -- that was simply part of the psy-op. Unfortunately the architects of this monstrousness still hold the real power and can direct Obama on what to say or do.

Guantanamo holds power at the discretion of congress and the president

That's the way it should be, but I think Obama is just a puppet. Let him prove otherwise.

Good post Matt.

At first glance some might think that this story is not important, maybe not even related to Occupy. But it really demonstrates the absolute and criminal power that our government now possesses. The need to incarcerate an innocent man who they know is innocent. Even after repeated recommendations that he be released.

"The real shock was that Obama chose to appeal the district court’s order to release a prisoner whom his own task force had (privately) already designated for transfer home."

Yeah that is the real shock.

Not that everyone of the Gitno detainees were put there by Republican GWBush.

Not that the republicans have obstructed the closing of Gitmo! Nor the fear mongering created 11 years ago when republicans exploited the 9/11 attacks, and maintained by republicans today to continue the endless war on terror and maintain the constitutional violations we struggle against.

None of that is shocking so we'll just give the repubs a pass and pretend this all one Pols fault. As if history didn't exist before 2009.

Obama did it! Obama did it! LMFAO!

Repubs are saints they haven't done anything wrong that's why we never criticize them.

Did you read the story? Obama kept this guy in detention after he was cleared for release.

Horrible.

I'm more concerned about the wider issues surrounding this violation of human rights. How it started. How to change this right wing fear mongering atmosphere the country has been subjected to. We can't resolve these problems without getting to the roots of this debacle.

Here a little progress for you. Take heart. All will be well again. WE must undo the environment that was created 11 years ago by repubs who exploited the 9/11 attacks.

You wanna stop 'em?. Protest this Pres/Congress (both parties). & fight the fear mongering created 11 years ago that allows them.

IF you are against drone bombings you will recognize how we got here and who is still feeding the fear mongering! If you give the guys who created all this (incl drone wars) and maintains the fear/war mongering a pass, then your just engaging in partisan attacks on one pol/party.

If you do care, you will BE fair. If you don't, you won't

it's in the interest of the military industrial complex

[-] -1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

We must stop our mic adventures. .Protest all pols for real change 1st priority is change the atmosphere/environment of fear mongering/war mongering created 11 years ago when the 9/11 attacks were exploited to do start the endless war on terror, & trample our constitutional rights.

9/11 attacks reignited the propaganda

the military industrial complex was in an economic slump after the USSR folded

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

Thats right. All the more reason we MUST change the atmosphere of war mongering. Fast!
