But those are all private companies, and the first amendment is a check against government intervention not private censorship.

But it is being implemented by the government. Why is the govt spending our tax dollars to hold meeting and enact laws which serve private companies? Isn't that Fascism?

[-] 1 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 12 years ago

same reason why drugs are against the law and there are private citizens who have no problem with them. companies are just groups of private citizens defending their interests. I don't know, this second, enough about the bill to ponder the unintended consequences of the bill. But if you do, you should right letters to the sponsor and cosponsors of the bill and voice your concerns. no?

Works, I'm on verizon.

Note that the link you give has www. added on to the beginning of the link, which does NOT work, and that this fact has been noticed by numerous people posting at the sites which you are crossposting here.

In other words, I believe that your screaming is a bit of a stunt to draw attention to PROTECT IP, which is a terrible peice of legislation and violates due process of law while blurring the lines between civil cases and criminal cases in a way We The People must NOT tolerate.

However: Your assertion that that website is blocked... Is false, and I have a hunch you know that is true. -- Or should have known.

WORKS FINE: http://americancensorship.org/

DOES NOT WORK: http://www.americancensorship.org/

I can tell you unequivocally, that the www. part of a domain name is not required in order for web browsers to work, and many sites do not use it. Some sites are configured so that you must type it, but most sites are configured so that with or without it you get the same page. THAT site apparently only works if you do NOT included it.

Good point. I did not notice that. Thanks for the info.
