This is incredible: Those who resist Big Oil in destructive Tar Sands mining and transport will be classified as threats to Canada by their homeland security agency: Public Safety Canada. All in the name of profits. Is the US next?

Canadian government is bought by the oil interests.

[-] 1 points by kilroywashere (20) 12 years ago

No different than being labeled "radical" in the 60's. Sometimes, you got the label just for checking out the wrong library books. Nothing has changed...except for maybe the dress code.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

Destruction of citizens' rights and privacy invasion go deeper today.

[-] 1 points by kilroywashere (20) 12 years ago

This is true bklynsboy, but the tactics of discrediting the opposition remain strangely just as unsophisticated as they always were.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

Yes, lies, deceit, omissions, inuendo mostly by republicans, FOX.

Where is the public outrage?

[-] 1 points by grimblecrumble (63) 12 years ago

I think the most recent spill in Alberta could be the last straw for lots of people.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

No mention in mainstream media.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Lagging behind due to MSM news blackout.

Spread the word on social media it is slower but it will get the news out if everyone shares and circulates.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

What about OWS Canada?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

I do not know how honest their news service is in reporting to their public what is going on in the world.

[-] 2 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

yes, use social media and bulletin boards.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Yep - broken record - I know - but - we need to communicate - educate - reach out - sound the alarm.

If not us who are aware - then who?

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Yes - thank you. Sharing the voices of truth and reason is our weapon against apathy and ignorance. People need access to articles that do not support corpoRat or government spin.

Awareness comes from exposure to truths.

The FCM fawning corporate media is a waste of time. NY Times and Wash. Post are govt and pentagon stenographers. Unfortunate. They used to be valid.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

In the day - prior to CorpoRat misrule aided and abetted by corrupted government.

[-] 2 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

Also big corporations + Saudis own NYT and media. They have agenda.

Where is the public outrage in Canada?

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

How far will this scum be allowed to go?

[-] 1 points by Nevada1 (5843) 12 years ago

Hi bklynsboy, Good post and link. Yes, corp/gov would find it convenient to label those with environment concerns as terrorists.

You realize we have nuts blowing up pipelines right? I'd call that a terrorist act. Not to mention not great for the environment.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

When did anyone blow up a pipeline in canada or the us? Don't be nutty. The conservative Canadian govt is just trying to shut down/silence valid dissent. If they label protesters with the language of right wing, police state endless war on terror terminology they can put them in jail with trumped up charges of inaccurate "national security threat". Most people are smart enough to recognize that truth.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

Ok so there have been 6 bombings. Anyone caught bombing should be arrested and convicted. Using the terminology of the endless war on terror and invoking some extreme national security based punishment needs to end! And that doesn't make every protester a bomb thrower.! Some would say the Fossil fuel corps are doing more damage to communities than the pipe line bombings. Some call these 1% corps terrorists!

[-] -2 points by shadzhairart (-357) 12 years ago

Some would say the Fossil fuel corps are doing more damage to communities than the pipe line bombings.

Some would say two wrongs don't make a right and that this is a known logical fallacy.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

Yeah. Yeah. I am against violence. I am also against the violence perpetrated by the 1% on our communities through drilling, dumping & polluting. We need all people to be aware of the 1% fossil fuel violence, and support for terrorists in middle east. We must stop sending our money to people who finance our enemies!

no one needs to be worried about Canada.

What are they gonna do? Ask us nicely to move?

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

Made my day!

The new duo of Chinese capital/Canada may well mirror the old duo of U.S. multinational oil companies/Middle-Eastern oil countries. Will the rerun of corporate-sponsored state oppression lead to new 9/11 for China/Canada?

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

Interesting but unlikely. Canada doesn't go around globally intervening and propping up despots like us causing blowback like Cole and 9/11.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 12 years ago

Both China/Canada will take a while to build up the bad reputations and animosities but they are surely getting there. Canada has declared environmentalists as potential terrorists. China's neighbors are already uncomfortable with China flaunting its power. It is only a matter of time for ill wills to reach critical levels as long as corporate interests collude with political establishment to oppress people. Actually Canada already had so-called terrorism.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

The Chinese Govt. members own shares in industries. They make big profits. That will affect their decisions to go to war where profits are lost.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 12 years ago

China seems to be traversing on a path of mercantilism. It will take some time for China to squander its hard-won reputation as a champion of the Third World but there will likely be the same flag-waving and weapons-toting to follow the trade as the old European colonial powers once did.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

I agree. But they are smarter by using carrots with no stick.

[-] 2 points by grapes (5232) 12 years ago

The stick will follow as it had happened for all imperial powers eventually.

[-] 2 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

US probably won't allow it. Only a matter of time before NATO figures out a way to extend its mission to Asia.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 12 years ago

U.S. can have the ability to disallow ONLY if it keeps the consent of countries to have U.S. bases open in addition to the U.S. itself wanting to and financially able to do so.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

Yes! Our ability to occupy is determined by how desperately the occupied country wants are bribes.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 12 years ago

That is largely but not totally true. There are countries "saved" by the U.S. which will tolerate U.S. troops even without our "bribes." Some are wealthy enough that our "bribes" simply do not matter much anyway. There can be huge cultural differences between U.S. troops and their native population and that had caused problems in the past but tolerating U.S. troops is much better than being overrun by their bullying neighbor(s). However much some of our adversaries portrait the U.S. as hegemonic, some countries know that it is simply false.

[-] 1 points by bklynsboy (834) 12 years ago

Valid in some cases.

[-] -1 points by linker (-241) 12 years ago

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

It's tempting to stoop to his level and I agree with you, but I think he wants you to resort to the insults. He does deserve it. But you are better than that.

Enviro-terrorists ARE the problem,Green Peace and the rest of the filth do more damage and cause more misery and cost more money than Islamo-terrorists.
