For those who know, please explain the Bank for International Settlements to me? They seem to be the most powerful bank in the world, yet we know so little about it.

What is the Bretton-Woods International Financial?

You don't need to understand the BIS....you need to read a basic book of 20th century history. Don't run before you can walk.

Who cares?

Unions can bankroll a 3rd party read more http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/

Instead of union leaders pissing away the members' money by giving it to the Democrats who have stabbed the unions in the back when Clinton created NAFTA the minute he got inaugurated the members money can finance a 3rd party that would end globalization. Unions need to bargain for their members by completely excluding all nonunion employees from any benefits when they negotiate contracts.

The OWS protests could influence this process if OWS would nominate candidates for the unions to finance. The OWS strategy that refuses to nominate any candidates is self destructive for the protest.

The BIS is the most obscure arm of the Bretton-Woods International Financial architecture but its role is central. John Maynard Keynes wanted it closed down as it was used to launder money for the Nazis in World War II. Run by an inner elite representing the world's major central banks it controls most of the transferable money in the world. It uses that money to draw national governments into debt for the IMF.

Thank you very very much for the info and link.

So the obvious next question is the role of the BIS in regard to Wall Street and the trillions of dollars extracted from the 99%???

I'm sure this has important relevance to OWS.

Carrol Quigley - the bankers' plan

"The Power of financial capitalism had [a] far reaching plan, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole.

This system was to be controlled in a feudalistic fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences.

The apex of the system was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks, which were themselves private corporations.

Each central bank sought to dominate its government by its ability to control treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence co-operative politicians by subsequent rewards in the business world."

Carrol Quigley, Tragedy and Hope, 1966 - [Bill Clinton's mentor and Georgetown University professor] mentioned by Bill Clinton during nomination acceptance speech.

Thanks for asking.

I've asked that on other sites and have no serious explanations.
