In trying to get a better understanding of wall street and big banks magical vaporizing money I stumbled into this and cannot find any more information on this from late 2009,

Thats what got my interest, 48 TRILLION !! Was this kept out of the media I would appreciate any more information on this subject.
Derivatives bet on the original $58 Billion dollar loan. There is barely 50 Trillion dollars in real cash reserves combining all of the worlds assets.
In the same way that a housing market bubble in the US can crash the Global Economy (derivatives), normally it should have just affected the US alone, but since large bets by any big player anywhere in the world can be placed on any income stream, relatively small local financial problems are causing global concerns.
