Forum Post: Boycott Miami Beach

Posted 11 years ago on Aug. 15, 2013, 7:25 p.m. EST by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Don't go to Miami Beach. Don't go there for Spring Break. Don't go there to escape cold winter snows. Boycott Miami Beach.

  • CNN: Miami Beach police under fire after killing driver

    • Questions remain over two years after Miami Police appear in video to execute a young black man behind the wheel of an automobile stopped in the street.

    • Indiscriminate intimidation and threats of deadly force by officers toward those filming the incident via cell phone is clear.

The appearance of execution style killing of suspects by uniformed officers is completely unacceptable in any community in these United States. The public interest demands answers, the credibility of every single uniformed officer depends on the accuracy and the timeliness of those answers.

In a community where such answers are not provided in a timely manner, one must seriously consider that the entirety of City Government is complicit in the failure to provide them and has therefore failed in its obligation to serve the public. Of this there can be no question. We cannot yet say with complete certainty that these officers, their superiors, or the City Government itself, has been complicit in a campaign designed to deprive this individual of his Right to Life.

We accept that this may indeed be the case, and note that after more than two years without adequate answers, the appearance is inescapable.

Let No One Out Side Miami

Do Business Inside Miami

Until This Question Is Addressed

I have no problem with boycotting Miami. In fact, I have no problem with boycotting Florida regarding several issues. Further, they should have been boycotted for hiring undocumented workers which has displaced those American citizens that are working at the bottom.

This issue is worth it.

That said, Miami is the Latin American hub. It is something that Texas so hoped for.

Well, if you incorporate Florida as a whole there may be celebrities that might be willing to join in. Or may have already boycotted the state because of the Stand Your Ground Law.

But, keep in mind that there is quite a bit of international business.

It is a multi-billion dollar industry. If it has the capacity to ignite change then it's a beautiful thing.

But, just food for thought, many of the young adults and singles are drawn to Miami. In fact, South Beach is filled with a shit load of narcissists. To be honest, there are three waves of spring breakers. The first one has some money and the following two are actually more trouble than they are worth. The reason that I had suggested all of Florida is because of where people are most likely to travel to.

If you have kids than you are going to hit Bush Gardens in Tampa and Disney in Orlando.

Just a thought.

Well, I see no reason to support a state, via tourism dollars, that is privatizing as much as they can and as quickly as they can, refuses to advocate for American citizens, maintains a Stand Your Ground law, and refuses to complete an investigation for a man that was shot and killed in the street by a police force. They seem to have no problem using tax dollars to pay for law suits.

The cool thing is that I know people that are actually selling their property down there because there is this right wing rhetoric and utter waste of tax dollars by the good governor as it is.

Well, the Keys are coral and have been under water at least four times. So, it is a coming. But Bush has a nice little disaster clean up profit making venture down there. How cool is that?

Well, for those people that say that consumerism is the problem they can be the change by boycotting Florida.

Tampa has a Dem mayor and the entire city council are Dems too. Its not quite as red vs blue as you think.

Pitting people against each other's states is pretty fucked up, hence the whole "red" vs "blue" nonsense.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Wait........I thought they were all the same.

[-] -1 points by TropicalDepression (-45) 11 years ago

I'd like to remove them all from power, just letting him realize in his rampant hate for anything labeled "red" know he may be hurting some that he thinks can save him.

Red and blue states crack me up. Red or Blue, over half of each state doesnt participate in this authoritative elitist nonsense to begin with.

They are all, of registered voters, within 10% of each other, closer to 5%.

If thats reason enough to cut off and send out to sea...rough crowd!

"Pitting people against each other's states is pretty fucked up, hence the whole "red" vs "blue" nonsense."

Maybe they work for the KGB. Every state has good and bad points as it relates to my personality. There are things I absolutely hate about Wisconsin. Some things I like. Many times I wish I hadn't moved here but I try to stay positive.

This state against state mentality was intensified in a big way because of the bailouts, I believe. People are becoming aware of how corrupt everything is. It probably wasn't the intension of the bailout scammers to break the masses down psychologically but that's what's happening.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Nah, you guys are late on your game. But, you know, I understand how those state rights folks could be easily confused.

[-] 0 points by TropicalDepression (-45) 11 years ago

I agree. Every state does things that irritate me, and most all have things I like. I spend most of my life in NYS, but lived all over for brief periods of time. They all have something unique to offer. I wish they were all more diverse, corporatism has made almost all the cities pretty similar.

[-] 0 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

Rochester? I lived in Buffalo. Same thing. WI blows because it's an alchohol culture. Everyone in clubs looking for romance or just out to mess with someone else. Goiing to a club reminds me of being in high school. I just don't go into them.

Outside the club people are perfectly normal.

[-] 0 points by TropicalDepression (-45) 11 years ago

Yes, Rochester, loved going to party in Niagra Falls, a few bad experiences at Rumours haha.

[-] -2 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

I miss western NY in a lot of ways. I could go to a club and just chill out. Can't do that in Wisconsin.

[-] -1 points by TropicalDepression (-45) 11 years ago

Garbage plates and buffalo wings at 2am on Monroe Ave at Gitsis or Marks. Miss that too. Most of my friends have settled down now at this point, which is prob a good thing :)

I would have guessed that WI was pretty similar to upstate?

[-] -2 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

Definitely a swing state. Politically, not musically of course.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Well, if you have ever watched the media in action, a mere tropical depression will have Miami singing that the keys are smashed to bits. Teeny little effort to pull tourism dollars away. Frankly, one would think that this is the best way for unification. It would keep one county for clobbering another for tourist cash.

[Removed]

[-] 0 points by TropicalDepression (-45) 11 years ago

You would be hard pressed to not find a state that should be boycotted if finding corrupted causes is the baseline to judge it by.

Would you be willing to toss in Colorado and Cali in the undocumented boycott?

The latin hub is/was/will be Cali.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I'm telling you point blank, I have no problem with boycotting Florida for the above listed reason. Hiring undocumented workers in those resort hotels should be reason enough. The hub is and has been out of Miami.

This worked in Arizona to get the MLK holiday passed, people quit doing business here a few conventions canceled, that was around ten years ago. Look at what is happening in North Carolina and Florida and almost every state controlled by Republicans, time after time the answer is clear remove Republicans from public office.

The call goes out "to all of us?" Call from whom, Zen, you? I saw the clip. The family didn't call for "all of us" to do a damn thing. Sure, the family wants answers. And justice. But there was no appeal to the masses to do anything on their behalf, certainly not a boycott of Miami.

So I have to suspect your motive for singling out this particular incident to the exclusion of all the other homicides by cops of unarmed citizens that are occurring with increasing regularity.

And that's where your anger should lie and should have been the focus of your post. THAT would have been a worthy subject and definitely worth discussing. As it is it's just you flapping your gums for attention again.

And one more thing. What, exactly, are YOU doing about it? Besides sitting on your ass typing on a keyboard, that is?

Edit: And calling me an establishment whore when you proudly boosted for Obama is laughable.

That's right, you're doing nothing! So hop a bus, get your ass to Miami, paint a fucking sign, and PROTEST, for Christ's sake. You know, do something.

Get over yourself, Zen, you're not that impressive. And, in fact, you've been losing fans here at an impressive rate. Maybe toning down the insults and venom a bit might help, but it's just a suggestion, buddy.

Edit: It'd also help your case if you stopped making shit up about people you know nothing about. It belies your perceived intelligence. I may be a lot of things, but I assure you, establishment isn't one of them.
