Yawn... more tired propaganda that is designed to drive a wedge between the halves of the 99%.

[-] 1 points by mantaseed (36) 12 years ago

Its not propaganda its fact, you obviosly don care about those issues so you wouldnt understand.

[-] 2 points by schnitzlefritz (225) 12 years ago

Yes, it's definitely propaganda, pure and simple, designed to divide the 99%. Keep it up.

[-] 1 points by ribis (240) 12 years ago

I, for one, care about all of those issues, actually. However, those issues, for the most part, aren't issues I expect OWS to address. Shall I gripe here about the Republican war on abortion rights, or about the Democrats on my city council who, year after year, won't join the swing vote in declaring that the 5th street one-lane roundabout needs to be replaced with a simple stop light? OWS can't help me get that deathtrap removed, however much I wish they would.

The same goes for gay marriage, and theocracy, and several others -- hell, I've marched with pride parades in bloody-red states, and I'm an Internet Gnu Antitheist, and I've been called worse -- but not here, not now. Here, I'm about economic reform, and I'm about doing everything I can to keep OWS free of party money and party favors and party influence.

OWS cannot become the "Democrat Tea Party." There's a wide road to irrelevance in America, and we call it co-option. No more of that crap. Keep the packmules and pachyderms out of it.

Which party doesn't follow through on campaign pledges? Both.

Which party gives the rich tax cuts? Both.

Which party sends our troops to exciting new places all the time? Both.

Which party throws money at Wall Street with no real strings attached? Both.

Which party doesn't stand up to the Republicans even while holding the White House and Congress? Democrat.

So stop with the bullshit please.

You are not ows

You mean never letting a woman get a word in edgewise, while smearing reality?

[-] 2 points by JackHall (413) 11 years ago

That may be part of it. But the real threat is the privatization of social security. The new generations of Republicans have been attacking the remains of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal with a vengeance.

In the 1930s there was a plot by several industrial interests to overthrow the US government and install a military dictatorship comparable to the ones in Italy and Germany. The plot failed. President Roosevelt did not put the conspirators on trial for treason. He allowed them to keep their property and wealth as long as they did not interfere with his New Deal policies.

The (R)epelican't and libe(R)tarians have been pushing for that for years.

Here's what they fear the most.

Monetary reality.

It's where all of the arguments go to die.

“The government is an entity created by the people and for the people. It exists to further the prosperity of the private sector – NOT to benefit at its expense. If this entity is allowed to exist for its own benefit or becomes corrupted by a concentration of power or abuse of its currency issuing powers it will become susceptible to dissolution via the populace’s rejection of that government.”

This is the first principle of functional finance. Is this saying the government exists to further the prosperity of the private sector? There is a problem here. How about a public sector accessible to all citizens for free? We don't need to be charged for everything we need, but if everything is privatized then no one will have a right to anything.

When private factories were closed in communities in the United States and reopened overseas by outsourcing it created a local depression. When too many factories were closed the aggregate created the largest recession since the Great Depression. Government has responsibility to keep private sector from shutting down the country's ability to produce strategic materials and services.

Roosevelt thought the state was better positioned to manage a modern industrial economy than a small group of self-centered private interests and laissez faire capitalists. This was before the capitalists began to spend billions of dollars on lobbyists.

FDR New Deal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76nq7w-i3IA [right click]

By dollars paid, the U.S. Social Security program is the largest government program in the world and the single greatest expenditure in the federal budget.

Capitalists want to privatize Social Security. So far Democrats have stood between Capitalism’s fat greasy fingers and the Social Security fund.

The New Deal was a plan that was in place long before the United States became the super power and the leader in creation of WMD

You are 100% correct Jack.........:)

There are many here though, that would vehemently deny that fact.

When I compare the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and the Tea Party as the same I don't mean social issues like same sex marriage or immigration. However, all three organizations monetary policies are identical. Governor Cuomo is a liberal democrat who has survived the political arena by maintaining a close relationship with the corporate elite of nyc. Although he doesn't talk much about his private sector corporate lawyer job with Island Capital LLC this lucrative business deal gave him millions in personal wealth by setting up the first securitization market in Dubai. Gov. Cuomo's goal was to set up a secondary mortgage market similar to Freddie Mac. Corporate america has hedged its bet in our Democratic System and the only way to fix it is to vote out every incumbent and make all politicians realize that they can't survive along party lines, they have to survive along the people's line.

[-] 1 points by mantaseed (36) 12 years ago

Point taken and I totally understand, but my greivences are with those social issues mentioned, to many innocent people are in misery becuase of the repugnant republican agenda and I am here to advocate for them.

[-] 1 points by Avoice (81) 12 years ago

Corporations are not concerned about social issues or any form of government. It's the actions of any government against American corporations that is a concern. Why is Cuba considered an enemy while other countries that promote societies that degrade women, provide child labor and wages that are not much higher than what a slave would be paid be considered a friend. Gov. Cuomo made millions off of Dubai. He wasn't concerned about women's rights in an islamic country and it does make good business sense. Corporations are morally obligated to shareholders. By itself, that is ok. Unfortunately, corporate influence within our democratic system of government has corroded our elected representatives ability to make decisions even if corporations don't support these issues. Voting out every incumbent in one huge block vote would restore democracy.

One- Repuglicans LOVE illegals whut u talkin bout mayn? What they DON'T want is to legalize them so that the illegals would have to pay their taxes and immigrant dues - and the Repug employers would have to pay them an actual wage.

Two- The Obama term has deported more illegals than Bush's two terms combined.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/20/us-obama-immigration-idUSTRE78J05720110920

Three- I'd say both. Although even the Cainites and the Paulites are guilty of this.

Four - "Moral" Repuglicans and some Blue Dog Dumbos.

Five - CANDIDATES. Some Repugs like the Log Cabins DO support gay marriage -

http://www.logcabin.org/site/c.nsKSL7PMLpF/b.6412345/k.C7EB/Issues.htm

Likewise...Obama OPPOSES gay marriage in favor of civil unions.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/civil-rights

So...look at CANDIDATES not PARTIES.

Six - See my answer for five. CANDIDATES not PARTIES. Even so-called Libtard Ron Paul shoves his Christian reconstructionism down our throats. (anti-abortion)

Seven - OH ROFL. So much ignorance...(the answer is both parties)

Eight - HAHAHA! Obama is the one that shot down the public option for SUBSIDIZED PRIVATE HEALTH UNINSURANCE!

Nine - ...see number eight.

Ten - Both parties started war. Clinton himself started more wars than Bush. Obama invaded Afghanistan and he has yet to withdraw our troops out of Iraq.

Eleven - ...

http://www.thenation.com/blog/163238/will-obama-withdraw-all-3000-troops-iraq-2012

We need them ALL out.

Twelve - NONE OF THEM.

Thirteen - Dude...Obama JUST passed the South Korean FTA that will kill Bay Area tech jobs...so we can sell them beef and pork. Two more left for him.

Fourteen - See #13.

Fifteen - Both. I'm sure that if you asked a conservative Democrat...ah heck nvm.

Vote Independent -

If everyone dropped their political party affiliation -

Without any membership what would the Republicans Be?

What would the Democrats Be ?

Meaningless Names ...

it’s that what they are NOW ...

[-] 2 points by ComplexMissy (291) 12 years ago

If you watch this you'll see how the party system is pretty irrelevant at this point. I don't think it should be our focus with OWS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3Qz1C-dAGc

[-] 2 points by LincolnCA (160) 12 years ago

While I can certainly find a way to agree with you I must say this, Which party will campaign their hearts out on one certainly policy only to change that policy once elected and influenced by Lobbyist? Both of 'em!

[-] 1 points by RationalReaper (188) 12 years ago

The problem.....the party on the right keeps moving the political football further right and the left keeps following (fumbling and giving up possession of the ball) moving our politics to the right. They both are in bed with crooks and we need to be rid of them.

[-] 1 points by ms3000 (253) 12 years ago

The problem is that both parties are wholly owned subsidiaries of corporations. You can't allow a member of congress to accept a $600,000 campaign contribution from a drug industry and expect that member of congress to vote conflict free.

[-] 1 points by glennlanders (8) 12 years ago

I agree both parties are not the same, but it's a waste of time to argue about. The real question is: will either party get us where we need to be. Each has had a crack at governing and in each case the business interests have proven too powerful to allow for real change. To the Republicans I say "shame" and to the Democrats I say "thanks anyway".

Now let's get back to shifting power to where it belongs - with the people.

Exactly, but many more people will come to your side when you are proactive (for “new” Business & Government solutions), instead of reactive (against “old” Business & Government solutions), which is why what we most immediately need is a comprehensive “new” strategy that implements all our various socioeconomic demands at the same time, regardless of party, and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management System of Business & Government, there's only one way to do it – by fighting bankers as bankers ourselves; that is, using a Focused Direct Democracy organized according to our current Occupations & Generations. Consequently, I have posted a 1-page Summary of the Strategically Weighted Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:

http://getsatisfaction.com/americanselect/topics/on_strategic_legal_policy_organizational_operational_structures_tactical_investment_procedures

Join

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/StrategicInternationalSystems/

because we need 100,000 “support clicks” at AmericansElect.org to support a Presidential Candidate -- such as any political opportunist you'd like to draft -- in support of the above bank-focused platform.

Most importantly, remember, as cited in the first link above, that as Bank Owner-Voters in your 1 of 48 "new" Business Investment Groups (or "new" Congressional Committees) you become the "new" Congress replacing the "old" Congress according to your current Occupation & Generation, called a Focused Direct Democracy.

Therefore, any Candidate (or Leader) therein, regardless of party, is a straw man, a puppet; it's the STRATEGY – the sequence of steps – that the people organize themselves under, in Military Internet Formation of their Individual Purchasing & Group Investment Power, that's important. Sequence is key.

Why? Because there are Natural Social Laws – in mathematical sequence – that are just like Natural Physical Laws, such as the Law of Gravity. You must follow those Natural Social Laws or the result will be Injustice, War, etc.

The FIRST step in Natural Social Law is to CONTROL the Banks as Bank Owner-Voters. If you do not, you will inevitably be UNJUSTLY EXPLOITED by the Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government who have a Legitimate Profit Motive, just like you, to do so.

Consequently, you have no choice but to become Candidates (or Leaders) yourselves as Bank Owner-Voters according to your current Occupation & Generation.

So please JOIN the 2nd link, so we can make our support clicks at AmericansElect.org when called for by e-mail from the group in the 2nd link, and then you will see and feel how your goals can be accomplished within the strategy of the 1st link as a “new” Candidate (or Leader) of your Occupation & Generation.

Agreed both parties are not the same at all. They both blow hard but not the same. The democrats aren't even the same party.

Talking points Fail.......Obama gets as much if not more $ fom corps/wall street. Also, new trade agreement , just leaked, gives off shore corps more power than onshore corps and dilutes American Sovereignty. Also, Dems dont " advocates for workers rights" they advocate for big union Bosses power. Both parties suck. By the way , I'm a life long Democrate who voted for Obama. Never again!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: One of the main pillars of Conservative propaganda is that both parties are the same. Nothing they say is further from the truth. It is an insidious lie intended to demoralize progressives, and discourage them from voting. Do not fall for this canard, because if both parties are the same, there is no hope for change, and therefore no reason to vote. The truth is that there is a difference between the parties. A stark difference! One party works for the rich, the other party works for all Americans. One party takes money from the needy to feed the greedy, and the other party takes money from the greedy to feed the needy. One party has plans and policies to create jobs, and the other party has a long list of lame excuses for not doing anything. Liberals want to change things. Conservatives want things to stay the same. There is a difference. One party wants to tax the rich, and the other party wants to tax the poor. One party wants to destroy Unions, and the other party wants to support them. One party supports the Occupation of Wall Street, and the other party doesn’t. One party wants to rebuild America, and the other party doesn’t. One party wants to provide health care for all, and the other party doesn’t. One party wants to regulate Wall Street, and the other party doesn’t. One Party wants to end the wars; the other party wants them to go on forever. There is a difference. One party is Myopic, and the other party is Far Sighted. One party wants to help the Middle Class, and the other party is at war with the Middle Class. One party wants to fire Teachers, and the other party wants to hire them. One party wants to create more jobs in America, and the other party wants to create more jobs in Asia. There is a difference. One party wants to protect pensions, and the other party wants to loot them. One party has a heart, and the other party has Ann Coulter. One party protects the right bear Arms, and the other party protects the right of freedom of assembly. One party believes that the only role for the Government is to provide for the common defense, and the other party believes that the Government should also promote the general Welfare. There is a difference, and anybody that tells you there is no difference between the parties is simply not conversant with reality. In addition, anyone that blames the Democrats for the current state of affairs has no understanding of who controls the Government. One Party has the Presidency, and the other party has the Majority in the House, controls the Senate, has a majority on the Supreme Court, and is responsible for current economic policy. So, if you’re angry, and you want to start a real fight, I submit that we should start a real fight with the Conservatives! America has a Two Party System. One party is clearly on your side, the other party thinks you’re and Anti-American mob. At some point in time you’re going to have to pick one. Choose wisely, your future is at stake reply permalink edit delete
