This is movement is aimless and pointless not because there is no light in sight, but because of the way you want to world to perceive you: unorganized mob. I think the world already knows us social inequality, but we live in capitalist society, so unless you're ready to give up democracy and capitalism stop bitching...

Oh, I see. You can't study because you can't write a proper sentence or, for that matter, even spell. Take the cotton out of your ears, dude, and stick it in your mouth.

All of you against this idea can actually die in a hole. None of you care about the country only acting as a squeaky wheel. Of course there is not true democracy. In my opinion that is the problem wrong with this country but there are plenty of others worse off than us. You are all welcome to go there and get shot and left in a ditch.

Walk in beauty, star.

You clearly know very little about how the world works. Why don't you study more and talk less?

Democracy and capitalism are not only not the same thing, they are at odds with one another. We can only be a capitalist society because we are a LIBERAL democracy (one restrained by a constrained by a constitution protecting basic rights, including property).

The issue isn't mere inequality...it's unjustifiable levels of inequality and unfairness in the system.

If we just printed and distributed enough money to move everyone into the 1% category, would that solve the problem.?? Or we could do the reverse and take all the money away from everyone and reach a point of equality and fairness. would that solve the problem???

[-] 1 points by Buck (37) 12 years ago

Huh?

[-] 0 points by ronjj (-241) 12 years ago

Was just asking re: inequality and unfairness in the system. What IS the solution if that is the problem.

[-] 1 points by Buck (37) 12 years ago

No one thing.

Simplify the tax code while removing incentives for expenses for which the justification no longer holds. Cap itemized deductions. Get rid of caps and other restrictions on tort cases (tort "reform" is anti-capitalist). Enforce corporate charters and if necessary dissolve non-compliant companies. And stop allowing "any and all legal business" as the purpose of incorporation. Repeal corporate personhood (would require Constitutional Amendment at this point). Disallow campaign contributions by anyone BUT an individual who is a citizen or legal permanent resident and keep a cap (I think it's $2600 right now). Implement uniform voting protocols nationwide, including instant runoff voting.

Among other things.

I suggestion that I believe deserves serious consideration:

Any election at any level of government will be declared valid only when a majority of the eligible voters cast a ballot in the election to be decided by a majority vote (or whatever % is designated) of that majority casting such ballots.

You can discuss third parties until kingdom come and there is really no consensus. This system, in effect, creates a very definite third party with the power to vote "none of the above" in any election thus becoming the majority vote. The candidates then would be required to recoup, or might even be fully disqualified in the second election to follow.

[-] 1 points by Buck (37) 12 years ago

I think that's a good goal. I'm just not sure how to practically implement it.

And while I want to encourage people to vote at all levels of government, I want them to do their due diligence on the races they vote in. I do have a concern that compelling voting (even passively by having re-votes until a majority show up at the polls) will lead to reckless voting.

Not that that doesn't already happen.

Very well put and very logical, something to be seriously considered. There will always be holes to fill in and kinks to work out - but is the reasoning sound??

Obama could STOP one example of what you are talking about with the stroke of a pen (even from Australia). STOP the 13M$ bonus to the CEOs of Barney World (FANNIE-FREDDIE), only one pen stroke-you got the b_to do it????? I didn't think so.

How about stopping financial aid to the rest of the world? Much more money involved, think on larger scale.

Don't count on Obama... He ain't got none! And that's according to prominent DEMOCRAT strategist James Carville :
