I am over here in Zucotti Park and today my new Macbook Pro got stepped on and all the guy could say was "sorry dude" he didnt even offer to pay for it. $2,000 down the drain...what do I do? The screen is destroyed and case is completely cracked and it wont turn on. At least I still have my iphone to post on!

I also heard the police are going to kick us out tomorrow. I am just a fellow traveler who is down for the struggle. I could just cry :(

Apple has more money in the bank than the entire U.S. Treasury. So, go to the Apple store nearby and explain you're with OWS and hopefully they'll give you a new computer out of guilt for their corporate greed. Times are tough for everyone (except the 1% of course) so hang in there. Things often get worse before they get better.

I'd take it to the Mac store there in NYC. Show the owner what happened. And ask him/her if he would support your Cause by replacing your Macbook with something he could afford to donate. You just might find a compassionate soul... especially in the Mac World.

Worth a shot. Apple has tons of money and parts costs pennies from china land.

Thank goodness for child labor.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 13 years ago

You'd be surprised how many store managers might say, "Here, you can have this demo model that's been sitting on the shelf for 3 months... "

[-] 3 points by mindhawk (175) from Jefferson City, MO 13 years ago

I am sorry to hear that. Never ever set your laptop on the ground. I repair laptops and most damage happens this way. Also candles, swimming pools...I wouldn't take my laptop to a protest in the future unless you are part of the media group.

Don't listen to trolls, this is bigger than your laptop, we all have to sacrifice. Some lessons are expensive, but don't let your woe disconnect you from what is going on.

Maybe stop supporting a company that gets bonuses for outsourcing american jobs.

[-] 1 points by IdFightGandhi (38) 13 years ago

No choice do we have as everything is outsourced.

Don't buy the latest product, wait, buy it used. Save the cash and don't give these companies more money. Every chance you get ask if it's made in USA. Get that idea out there.

My heart goes out to you and your Macbook Pro, what a supreme bummer. but as mindhawk says, the occupation movement is bigger than your laptop. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your presence in the occupation. You are giving so many people courage to speak their dissent and join in.

so sorry!

I'm sorry your computer was stepped on. Unfortunately, it seems to me that people have become defiant and desperate. Hang in there, stay strong. Those of us across the country who can't be there are still standing behind you in support. This must happen, or our world is going to be a dirty, awful place to live.

So you're against corporate greed and you bought an Apple laptop...

Hang in my friend. Freedom has a cost and you just paid a small price compared to most.

Renter's insurance?

[-] 1 points by Idaltu (662) 13 years ago

That hurts...I know if it happened to me I would be really upset. Never let something like that lie around where it can be damaged.

[-] 1 points by anotherone773 (734) from Carlyle, IL 13 years ago

That sucks, but if you bought a pc you would of had the same computer for about 1/2 the cost. Apple is overpriced.( Price gouging anyone?)

[-] 1 points by Coreupt (294) 13 years ago

Apple should hire that guy.

[-] 1 points by pc3 (20) from Missoula, Mt 13 years ago

Why did you leave it on the ground?

[-] 1 points by coco2 (3) 13 years ago

:( :( .....that sucks but keep your chin up your down there for agood reason and a good cause and thats priceless I also agree with patriot4change ...you never know!

[-] 1 points by Fredone (234) 13 years ago

That's terrible, can you not identify the guy who did it? If you are in really dire straights we could do a whip around, but the thing is that verifying that people don't try to do something like this to get money out of others is always a problem, but I think it is one that can be solved and still allow us to support each other in situations like this.

Thanks an enormous amount for going to the protest. Remember for every one that is down there there are many many more that want to be but can't. We are all grateful that you are helping to solve America's most important problems. And yes, we need to show it, it is true, we cannot just say everyone who comes to the protest is on their own, but I don't know what I can do from over here sorry.

[-] 1 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

You know what, you can list it on Ebay and get something for it, that is small consolation but at least you will get something. I have sold soooo many old & broken electronics on there, sometimes for very surprisingly high prices. At least you will have some cash to put toward a new laptop.

Sorry it happened, dude, stay strong.

You make me giggle.

I'm sorry. Go to freecycle.org. Maybe someone has an old laptop they don't need anymore.

[-] 0 points by GypsyKing (8708) 13 years ago

How would it benefit anyone in this movement to smash your computer? In any case tha is really sad.

[-] 0 points by cheeseus (109) 13 years ago

But you guys are all equal. He owns that macbook as much as you. Isn't Marxism lovely?

[-] 0 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

It's not going to be easy to earn the money to buy a replacement MacBook Pro if you spend your time camping out with a bunch of unemployed people.

[-] -1 points by dafremen (15) 13 years ago

That's right. Listen to Tech Junkie. A MacBook Pro is MUCH more important than the future of our country. I'd run off and get a job RIGHT away. I hear Burger King is hiring. Who knows, within a year...you could be the manager! :D

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

If a job that's higher-skill and higher-pay than Burger King is your goal, then yeah, sorry, camping out among jobless people is not the smartest way to find one. Investing time on learning to use that MacBook Pro for a trade skill would have been a better idea. I've owned many $2k+ computers in my life and I've literally spilled milk in some of them, but I never cried over it because every one of them has generated more money for me than it cost.

[-] 1 points by dafremen (15) 13 years ago

What if your goal is a society in which each member's hours are valued not by the cash they generate, but by the contribution which they provide toward the goal of universal equality of opportunity regardless of inclination. It's unfortunate that your comments seem to indicate that you feel that the unemployed are to be regarded with disdain, when not everyone benefits society by contributing to the fiscal effort. Many who hold garbage jobs do so simply to pay the minimum existence, pouring their efforts into the works that later mark the Rembrandts, Beatles or Lucille Balls of the world passing through our lives and history. Why shouldn't they enjoy equal fruits to the man whose main contribution was his own clan's existence, their luxury and gain to a small section of society? The same goes for teachers, caregivers, homemakers, free kitchen volunteers and community outreach directors. So, little recompense for so much contribution, and our only answer is: it was their choice.

[-] 1 points by TechJunkie (3029) from Miami Beach, FL 13 years ago

I have no problem with somebody who doesn't generate a lot of cash. But anybody who expects to have things like $2,000 laptop computers needs to learn to generate some cash. Many good ways to generate cash involve using a computer, so you can see how this problem neatly solves itself for some people.

[-] 1 points by dafremen (15) 13 years ago

Some of the people whose intrinsic talents are WORTHY of the finest our computer technology has to offer, are often forced to choose to do something fiscally beneficial with the best hours of their lives, while pursuing their REAL benefit to society with whatever scraps of their hours can be gleaned between sleep, work and home responsibilities.

If this thing were working the way it should, liberals would recognize the value of conservative practicality and conservatives would recognize the real world benefits of ethereal contributions: laughter, inspiration, a restored sense of faith in our people and simple perspective when we get over-focused and need it most..these are some of the benefits which society derives from these individuals which it ONLY compensates them for if they choose one of its pre-created industries, entrenched methods for generating CASH from their creative efforts.

Society OWES these people, regardless of the law, regardless of the cash involved..at the very least, they are owed the same security, luxury and health care opportunities as that provided to those who pursue PURELY fiscal goals.

I can't get any Mac work out of your without paying, but you'll stop and watch a street entertainer whose skills capture your fancy, drop a dollar in his hat for an original song worth at least $5 on stage if you'd paid for it. Some won;t put anything in the hat at all. Some will claim he wants a free ride, but disregard the fact that their lifted spirits just took one..on him.

[-] 1 points by dafremen (15) 13 years ago

BTW, I didn't mean to imply that only artists and those in creative pursuits are being shortchanged and undervalued by our system's current way of doing things. People who nurture our children, weaving the human context in which we play out our daily lives. People who keep society's neighborhoods from going up in flames, and society's very few really BAD seeds (as opposed to rebellious, impish, daredevilish types..most noble traits indeed..when the timing is appropriate for them. ^.^) from hurting our ability to trust one another (when they're not busy rousting protesters..right OR wrong.) These people all deserve equality of opportunity and lifestyle for hours of their lives given over to society. If a man gave 24 hours a day to society's need, there should be no man whose lifestyle should be above him (except perhaps in matters of sleep and sanity.) These are just my humble opinions.
