This blogger is discussing the recent purchase by DHS of 2700 armored trucks. I have been saying for a while that our state and local police with the helping hand of the federal govt are so well equipped for a war that 3rd world armies would be jealous. Well, turns out so would Germany! Will anyone in .gov explain?
It would be very nice to imagine a sensible, benign purpose for this investment. It would be nicer still if the executive branch thought it owed an explanation for the military arming of its non-military domestic security forces to the population it alleges to represent. If the head of your family came home with a rifle today, and you asked him why, would you feel comfortable if he refused to answer, or said, "You don't need to know"?
If the Obama administration comes home with that rifle, even while they are demanding that you relinquish or unload yours, must they not be held to at least the same level of scrutiny as your hypothetical family member? The notion that government -- no, the executive branch of government -- is seeking means to render itself immune to any possible civil unrest, by establishing conditions of complete domestic firepower superiority, should be disturbing not only to the paranoid. This is decidedly not a "tin foil hat" issue. For it is of the essence of civil government in the modern "free world" that the state never be so well armed against the people that the people are effectively without recourse in the face of potential government abuse.

It appears DHS has just 16 vehicles. The other 2700 are being refitted for the marines.

First I’ve heard about the DHS buying 2700 armored trucks. This is building a civilian military presence. However, I doubt if it ever got bad enough where the civilian populace tried to overthrow the government by force, I doubt these vehicles would matter. American civilians are the most armed and militarily trained people on earth.
Related, I recently read that after market of armoring of private vehicles is a booming business. A company called named Texas Armoring Vehicles near me that says it has a two year back log.

OK, upon further review, I stand corrected. As jrhirsch pointed out, they are going to the marines. DHS "only" has 16 at this time, apparently.
This is no way diminishes the growing threat of the militarization of our fed/state/local police. DHS itself, has evolved into a federales policia. I had thought they were to be an umbrella org to coordinate intelligence after 911 showed the various alphabet agencies each had a piece of info that. if put together might have alerted us to the attack. They have morphed into something far more insidious.

I find it interesting that the dnc trolls on this site bash on the 1% controlling the money but do not fear that they also control and increasingly dangerous nationwide police force.
