Have any of you thought of digging to create underground shelters? This would cut out the wind and trap in the heat. One way to achieve this without the authorities knowing is to use a few tents to hide the digging procedures. Dig from inside a tent (without a bottom part), then have some people carry out the dirt in big backpacks. They can dump in in big trash containers. Just don't always use the same containers as they are privately owned. I'm sure you could have a few trenches dug up in only a few days.

I think taking OWS indoors. I mean We've pretty much paid for those buildings with our money. LOL

lol... It would easier to just make snow caves. Just pile up a big mount of snow and dig a hole in it. You can also pour water over it and make it indestructible... At least indestructible to police. You would need heavy equipment to tear them down.

You clearly have never been to Zucotti Park. They will need a jackhammer first.

If the drums are loud enough, this could go unnoticed. I don't see it has a problem. Jackhammers can be rented.

And plop right down onto a subway line, burst a water main, tap into a steam vent, lol. It's New York City for god's sake. Have you ever seen what's under the streets and sidewalks?

I have, in old Spiderman cartoons. They use to show the underside of Manhattan. It's possible to dig some, you won't suddenly land on the subway after a few meters of digging.

Oh, you're basing this on old Spiderman cartoons! Well I certainly stand corrected then. I was basing my point on the fact that I walk past several opened street construction sites daily on my way to work and see firsthand the incredibly complex infrastructure below the surface of NYC.

Would you be interested in leading the digging team? You could be the OWS underground network architect. It looks good on a business card, you'd be helping a good cause, and we could use your experience.

Sure! The first step is for everyone to read this front to back so we're all on the same page.

I would advocate only sleeping out during the warm months, while protesting during the cold.

Just borrow one of the underground cities from the shadow government

People are missing the point here. By digging a bunker beneath Zuccotti park, we will be able to last during the whole of winter. Security will not understand what is going on as they will believe we are sleeping in our tents, when in reality we live in the underworld. The mass will believe we are courageous and brave, and that we are superhuman-like as we last through the most fiendish of weather. This will help us gain followers, and we will be stronger than ever when we emerge in spring like a well rested bear after hibernation.

Um. that would be against the law but more importantly very unsafe, burried power-lines and all...

Also, don't forget we are in this for the long haul throughout the winter months. Trenches could become our graves. Some protesters have already written their wills. There's a double function here.

We can use detectors before starting digs, and city plans are available to see where the lines are laid. Camping in the park is already illegal.
