"Banksters Rip Apart Spanish Health Care", by Thom Hartmann :

"Spain, like Greece, is indebted to the very foreign banksters who crashed their economy. And rather than telling those foreign banksters to take a hike like Iceland did, Spain’s austerity-happy government is paying off the banksters by taking money from working people through cutting socials services like health care. Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy argues the health care reforms will save his nation more than $9 billion this year, which can then be given to the banksters. But, as one protesting nurse, Emilia Becares, told France 24 News, “There is no study that shows that privatising the management of hospitals leads to lower costs. This privatisation hurts patients’ health care to benefit other interests.” Those “other interests” are, of course, the banksters and the for-profit healthcare hustlers." Also see :

Thanx for the Solidarity 'rkg' & the whole experience on 'LiveStream' was something unparalleled in my experience - and I came to the forum via 'OWS LiveStream' nearly a year ago. There was over 3500 people on Madrid 'LiveStream' and a similar number on Barcelona'LvStrm' at some points. Astounding !

All over Spain & Portugal the were huge anti-austerity & "Anti-Bankster Occupation" protests. This matter is being Grossly Under-Reported in The 'USUK' MSM !!!

For a peek 'behind the veil' and beyond 'the smoke and mirrors', please see :

IF addiction is a kind of insanity then The American People have been addicted by relentless indoctrination to the worship of a cynically concocted fantasy version of their country. However there is a way through this because realisation of the problem is a very big part of its ultimate solution.

[-] 3 points by frovikleka (2563) from Island Heights, NJ 11 years ago

I am beginning to see a crack in the "fantasy version of [our] country," in conversations i have had lately. More and more people seem to be waking up. It is important that each and everyone of us help turn the "crack' into a 'chasm.'

[-] 0 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

I agree & re. "more and more people seem to be waking up" - yes and 'Each One - Teach One' and thus we move forward together and the pace picks up.

Just yesterday I went to a town-wide yearly yard sale, and met a man with an up-side down mortgage, a young lady with $79,000 in debt for her education and unable to find a good job, and a woman who is unable to find full-time work. They all knew that our government had betrayed their interests, and perhaps with my little spiels had a better understanding of what it will take to change things.

Increasingly we see how a Parasitic 0.01% 'Extract Rentier Returns' from the labour of The 99% ! The 1%'s sense of 'entitlement' is stupendous !! But Spaniards showed a way - because Resistance Is Fertile !!! Good wishes to you & your outreach from which we can all learn a lesson and here's an article worthy of quite refection :

I will make sure to read this tonight, knowing that we can learn from this time in history when ordinary people did extraordinary things to regain control of their country. For now though, a beautiful day, my walk to the river/bay, and time with friends is calling.

Thanks shadz, livestream is really cool.

You've seen this story on the link, right? Anyway i think la Marea's approach is right on, and the toughness of that one editor that had cancer is very inspiring. So once again she, Bandera said,

"If you survive something, it is to live - to feel you put your energy into things you believe in. That is to be alive."

[-] -1 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

"La Marea, which means "the tide," isn’t actually a magazine, but it’s not quite a newspaper either: it’s a compact hybrid monthly, 64 pages long, on full-color tabloid-sized newsprint that is now being sold for three euros a pop at kiosks in the nation’s three largest cities: Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. In bookstores and news shops elsewhere, from Valladolid to Huesca and from Malaga to Seville, people are quickly grabbing the January launch issue, which totaled 25,000 copies and went on sale the Friday before Christmas. The February edition is due out this Friday." (1st Feb) - Thanx for this excellent link 'O'. Solidaridad amigo & I can see how such a thing would be great for OWS & from OccupyLondon :

I wonder if the students at Cooper Union (see write-up) will set off a revolution off... like this courageous young woman did there in 1909, with broken ribs suffered just days before..... she went uninvited and gave a very DIRECT speech...hmmm?

GR8 Link !!! "RESIST. INSIST. STAND TOGETHER. BUILD. NEVER SURRENDER." [ http://occupytheory.org/ ] The Tide/'La Marea' ebbs and flows & is set to turn, I hope !!

"No one should have to go into a debt for the basic things of our common life--including not only education, but housing, healthcare, food, transportation, and more. Thus, we call upon all debtors to recognize their connection to the struggle unfolding at Cooper--and to help expand it beyond a single institution through coordinated action."

"Looming large in our memory is the "infinite strike" in Quebec earlier this year, where student struggles against tuition-hikes radicalized an entire city under the sign of the red square. This has in turn become the emblem of the debt-resistance movement in the United States--an indication that we are all "squarely in the red." from :

We all need to learn from past struggles and people like Clara Lemlich.

As much as we blame to system around us, it is us who has allowed it to happen. The Germans didn't ask for a Nazi takeover, they were just to comfortable to do anything about it. Same with the Romans and many other cultures throughout history. It's a cycle, and our duty to do better than those who came before us.

[-] -1 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

If "it's cycle" - then it's a spiral ! Things may go in cycles yet things are for ever in flux !! Thus consider, 'Rapid Evolution = R:Evolution !!!

I do get your point in our complicity in our own servitude but it is not all the picture. The Power of 'Divide & Rule' Propaganda, Misinformation and 'The Manufacture of Consent' for 100 years has had a massive role to play. As such I append a brief and crucial history of the United States :

"There is no provision for social good in 'Capitalist Theory'. Corporations, created to optimize business opportunity through efficient specialization, were originally required to operate for public benefit but that provision was quickly finessed and forgotten. American law courts have always favoured corporate concentrations of wealth since they, like the Congress, exist to serve the moneyed interests. The American Myth was created to provide cover for the financial oligarchy to exploit the country and the citizenry and the judiciary has consistently cooperated in ruling for corporations against the people."

Also please consider :

"Expose, explain, attack and dismantle the myth of 'American Exceptionalism' - the mask and disguise of Predatory Capitalism."

[-] 3 points by Nevada1 (5843) 11 years ago

Thank you, will check it out. Any MSM media reports?

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

Given the size of the protests - some MSM coverage (mainly non USUK) is happening. I think more will have to follow. There was a degree of violence against the property symbols of Parasitic Banksterism and the coverage seems to concentrate on this because for the MSM, the superficial plastic violence' is 'The SNEWzzz' not 'The Much Deeper Violence of Enforced Austerity & Generational Debt- Bondage' :

There will be much more coverage later and probably most in a similar vein and not sympathetic or searching but we have to read betwen the lines and behind the superficial and we'll get an inkling of something "very important" going on.

[-] 3 points by Nevada1 (5843) 11 years ago

Thank you shadz for your efforts in getting the truth out.

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

As ever, you're more than welcome 'N1' & I follow the above with :

From the last link : "While we may call the protests in Spain "austerity protests" they're better characterized as being anti-corruption protests. It's not the cuts, per se (though they don't help, when unemployment {25%} is already where it is) - it's the feeling that people have no power over government, that the government favours elites, and that the country is losing sovereignty that drive people mad."

Everywhere the elite are forcing the people into a state of desperation. Globalist elite don't realize it, but they have a "Tiger By The Tail".

[-] -1 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

That's a rather lovely statement actually 'N1' when reflected upon & tho' I just linked to this article on this very thread for another poster, it warrants repetition here once again :

We all should try to engage with with 'The History of The Global 99% Struggle' as there are many lessons there for us now in our present predicament worldwide, as we all try to move forward ~*~

[-] 2 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

Dunno about ZD, but I "stopped" because the cops kicked all the protestors out of the park.

[-] 1 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

They did in LA too but they're still protesting without tents.

[-] 2 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

I'm in Queensland Australia. People here are pretty well off, in the main.

Quite hard to maintain any anger, when the bulk of the population is flush with cash.

[-] 3 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

I didn't realize that Australia has the best performing economy in the developed world. What about the police state and loss of liberties? Are those increasing?

[-] 4 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

I filmed a protest march in Sydney about five years back. Mostly Palestinians and a percentage of Australians against Israel's settlement of the west bank, and persecution of Palestinians. It went for several city blocks, and was peaceful. That said, the #occupy Brisbane group were roughly handled by the constabulary. There's the usual corruption and abuse issues, and most Aussies are pretty switched on about that sort of thing.

Our press is just as one-eyed as yours, though the gov-sponsored ABC and SBS channels are less influenced. The only good thing to come out of a newspaper is fish and chips.

On the loss of liberties, the gov tried to bring in similar laws to the US patriot act after 9/11/01, but that kinda fizzled out when most realised it was a bit of a scam.
