“We support the abolition of the Environmental Protection Agency.”

Here comes ALEC's latest tactic to make that dream come true.

Sue 'em, till they have no money left to do anything else.

The American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) mission to prevent the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions has expanded into an “unusual” coordinated campaign involving state attorneys general, according to documents obtained by The Guardian and released Friday.

ALEC, an influential right-wing lobbying group funded in part by petrochemical billionaires Charles and David Koch, has been working to undermine anti-pollution and pro-clean energy policies for years. But in 2014, the group adopted a new tactic — seeking out friendly state attorneys and encouraging them to sue the EPA.

Ayn, wouldn't have it any other way.

You could start a non-controversial thread on those puppies now.

Just be sure to mention how innocent ALEC is.

There's the future we've been given by the kinds of shackles that have already been put on the EPA.

Global warming=A clear and present danger.

The reality is much larger.

Perhaps if society itself, didn't hurt so much, none of this would be an issue?

Co-opting your State's Attorney General.

A very real story.

"The Guardian has learned that the American Legislative Exchange Council (Alec), a free market group of state legislators funded in part by coal and oil companies such as Peabody Energy and Koch Industries, launched a much broader style of campaigning in 2014 to block the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from cutting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

Documents obtained by the Guardian offer a rare glimpse into the inner workings of Alec as the organisation tried to drum up opposition from coal, oil and electricity industry groups and state officials.

The documents showed Alec adopting a new tactic of encouraging state attorney generals to bring lawsuits against the new EPA regulations – and so sink the emissions controls before they come into effect. Alec also encouraged legislators to lobby attorney generals and governors in other states on the EPA rules, the documents showed. […]

“Alec has become quite well known and notorious for promoting model legislation. This is different,” said Nick Surgey, director of research for CMD which investigates corporate influence on public policy. “Alec is engaging much more broadly in the campaign against the EPA regulations, and they are doing so by asking their members to advocate for the coal industry with attorney generals. That is very unusual for them.”"

Meanwhile, another one of ALEC's promotional favorites, fracking, just got another black eye.

Yet another study, saying fracking causes earthquakes.

The fucking American oil institute should be labeled as a straight out liar for fossil fuel as they back the approval of the KXL: and Fracking as well - saying it is ALL GOOD and CLEAN and as safe and American as apple pie ( the fuckers ) - assholes are putting out commercials in Minnesota right now touting the wonderful benefits and "thousands" of jobs to be provided by KXL ( the blatant fucking liars ).

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 9 years ago

Here's some info on the reality of some of those "jobs".

That land is attempting to spread.

Yes it is - from sea to polluted sea - funny thing ( NOT ) though - whether the fracking machinery/works/operations get fully expanded or not - the damage already done "WILL" spread out through the aquifers.
