This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Studies have now shown that ALEC is bad for the economy.

I guess the Koch's don't really know what's best..............:)

Great post. Thanks for the link. ALEC has an unbelievable track record. Can't believe we Americans have put up with this crap for so long.

It makes me realize that in many ways this is an information war. And we will win it if we find new and innovative ways of spreading the truth.

Thanks for the comment TR, what amazes me is how little attention ALEC actually gets.

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

I agree completely. It reminds me of one of those entities out of a Batman movie that seems completely far fetched in its obviousness and 2 dimensional evilness... And yet here it is in the real world. And not many people are up in arms over it. I think that's because it still hasn't received much mainstream media attention. That is fixable with more direction I think.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

ALEC makes it easier for them to shoot people, so they won't say too much against it. At least I think that's why ALEC gets such low attention here.

OWS has staged several rallies against it, so info about it is definitely on topic..

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

Totally agree. ALEC is one of the places the rubber meets the road so it's definitely something we should keep our eyes on for nonviolent action, protest and exposure. Such an obvious intersection of money in politics where corporations are literally writing legislation. The dangerous part as you know is that their big focus often is on state houses so stuff slips in under people's radar. Man, just talking about this gets me pissed off, how they've so brazenly hijacked such a beautiful system. I think even the most nonviolent of the founding fathers would deck an ALEC rep if they happened to encounter him.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

ALEC is an ugly outgrowth of our notorious lobby system.

A way to spread their vile policies all over the nation.

Central planning without the messy bother of a national election system.

[-] 2 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

Can't believe we Americans let it go for so long. We've been distracted by all the shiny objects dangled in front of us. How could we have lost our vigilance? We used to take this country and its success so seriously. Then somehow Harvard, Standford, Columbia business schools started churning out self centered assholes who decided to cash out on the country. In just two or three decades they've wrecked out economy, the environment and the middle class to make a quick buck. The WWII vet republican types I've spoken with are just as pissed as we are about this new group's lack of community awareness and values. They need to be exposed in all their glory.

Education that was/is supported/funded for research and development and use - by the Greedy.

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

That just plain sucks. I think Aldous Huxley saw this coming when he wrote the introduction to the 20th (?) anniversary edition of Brave New World. He went after academia being asleep at the wheel Bigtime.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Well kinda sorta - they in the for profit sector have been completely bought - and the public sector is under fierce attack and is falling.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

The awareness level of ALEC and it's activities is extremely low.

Most just look at you with disbelief.

ALEC is truly a prime example of the "the big lie".

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

Yes. A big lie in plain sight. What's the saying... And by having the lie so big they can scoff at anyone who calls them out for being proposterous.

[-] -2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

It works in the opposite way.

A reality so outrageous that no one believes it's real.

The reality of global warming is another one, multiplied by competing lies.

Today the American and Chinese military held disaster drills.

They both know the reality.

[-] 4 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

So what's your recommended course of action? If a thousand / ten thousand Occupy supporters were ready to roll, what would you most like to see them do during the next 12 months? What would be most effective in terms of energy to results ratio?

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

It's a real information war, no not the Alex Jones crap, but the kind that goes on every day in every State.of the Union

Mostly stuff that never reaches the national press.

It amazes how little attention these actions get on the forum, while they continue to jerk their knees at the stuff the MSM wants them to.

Oh look!! Hillary said something!

Meanwhile back in the States rights are being limited in many ways.

Unions crushed, in many ways.

The commons are sold off to corporations every day.

Unless it's something HUGE like an oil spill no even notices.

Get ready for it..

Look over there!!!!!! Obama!

Ooooops, Someone just bought your school system.

How long before the books themselves are branded?

American History, by Coca Cola.

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

Well said. I think you're exactly right. The film Manufacturing Consent really hits part of this very hard. Damn. We gotta push back hard. And help others to awaken. This is an information war. I remember the images of Occupy evictions with riot police juxtaposed with US criticizing other countries for same kinds of suppression. Not enough people were calling bullshit. This kind of thing really really pisses me off,

[-] -2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Perhaps you were on hiatus when it was a subject for a while.

http://alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_Exposed

Always a useful reference site.

[-] 2 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

Awesome. Yes, I think I missed that during my "hiatus". :) Thanks for this link. Will check it out.

[-] -2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Notice too, that only a small handful of forum users even bother to post in this thread.

A thread that shows how ALEC's "laws" are more expensive than what they replace, and that's just in the outward appearances.....remember, we pay for all of it through the products we by and services we use.

We paid for it twice.

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 12 years ago

You're so right. We Americans need to wake up to the absurdity of this and the harm occurring and vote with our wallets forcefully and consistently. I need to research this more and find out what groups are already working on this and how we can support them. This is such dirty business practice and it's done by big companies that most Americans think of as solid and ethical. Damn I wish we had better reporters and more widely read independent press. Gotta get this word out.

compounded daily - the never ending cycle of usury at work. For supporters of OWS and all Occupy movements - it may be that they feel this post is preaching to the choir - not taking into account that not everyone is aware and the the information needs to be kept in circulation.

Then there are the nasty's who like to attack this forum - they would love for the post to die a silent death - so they will ignore it until it is seen to be getting good interaction - then they will attack it and those commenting on it.

Could Alec and Cato founders/funders be sued? For working against society/environment etc?

I've been calling out for attorneys with the balls to do just these kinds of things for years.

You would think this would be the ultimate goal of the ACLU, but they won't touch it either.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Money gives many the heart to do what they otherwise would not consider.

Lets get some real value for the public dollar.

[-] -2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Sounds interesting. Something needs to counter the damage they've already done.
