'The Right Wing Has Been Handed a Serious Defeat Today'

"A huge victory for Obama! But let's not forget, we still don't have true universal health care – 26 million Americans will still NOT be covered under the Obama law. With this victory, we must now keep moving the ball down the field until we have Medicare for All." – Michael Moore

My Comment: We are moving the ball down the field. This is a victory for the people. But, as many of us know clearly, the circus came to town and watered down a lot that's in the ACA. But, from the last 7 presidents, we got one that actually did something about Healthcare Reform. Something! We did move the ball. Just listen to those repugs squealing. That's the proof in the pudding. They are really becoming the party of whining pugs. Tune them out, we now can realize the truth--------> that healthcare needed to be fixed and talking about it for the last thirty years had only allowed it to spiral out of control.

NOW...................................................

To counter the Repugnicans incessant ranting about Repeal realize some truths about their new LIES they will spawn as become rabid in defeat.

The Four Reasons Repugnicans won't be able to Repeal ACA

1) Romney has no authority to issue waivers.

2) Congress can’t repeal the full law through reconciliation.

3) Republicans have nothing to replace it with.

4) Americans support Obamacare’s provisions.

See full article here:

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/06/28/508503/4-reasons-why-republicans-wont-be-able-to-repeal-obamacare/

Keep this training rolling. What we really need is single payer. We got the train on the track. We need to stay active to get the whole deal and run those damned circus acts out of Washington!

Nope, no tax for me. ;p

Hemp Twister. LoL I like your style. You can think critically which is always the first step on the road to the TRUTH. That is the evident truth!!!

Trying to figure out what the facts are. That is what I will have to live with. The BS I can drink to.

The individual responsibility thing is a bitch to understand because of the amendments. That is what Pelosi was talking about. But looks like the wiki might have it. "Impose an annual tax of $95, or up to 1% of income, whichever is greater, on individuals who do not secure insurance; this will rise to $695, or 2.5% of income, by 2016. This is an individual limit; families have a limit of $2,085.[25][84] Exemptions to the tax in cases of financial hardship or religious beliefs are permitted."

[-] 4 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

That all sounds like what I heard earlier today on NPR. It's reasonable. Health insurance has been skyrocketing and now we have done something to reverse the trend. I have personally already benefited from ACA by keeping my 22 yr old son, who is in college, on my insurance. I have been layed off and typically I could never afford to continue health during those times. Now, I will. Everyone in this country will eventually benefit from this. And, if we feel compelled we can make it even better. Personally, I wanted single payer but this compromise gets the ball on the field. We have accomplished something here that the 7 previous presidents paid only lip service to.

Thanks Hemp Twister!!!

Just remember you "healthcare purists," we would not even be discussing this topic if McCain-Palin won in 2008!!! And it will be snuffed under a new RepubliCon Regime!! So STFU about insurance compromises!! 2010 could have taken care of that, but you were too busy POUTING!!!!

Baby steps! We've neglected our government so long our democracy has atrophied. We have something to build on. No trophies for showing up late all you Newbies (TM)!

[-] 2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 12 years ago

I posted this comment on another post on this topic

If the healthcare law didn't make massive profits for insurance companies, do you think it would have gotten the same ruling or even passed in congress?

We shouldn't be giving tax payers dollars to for-profit insurance companies that just suck up money that could be going to healthcare. The money should be going straight to healthcare. Why are we subsidizing insurance companies? If we all have to pay into a system, which this is essentially doing by requiring people to have insurance... why not just make it based off taxes and cut out the middleman and have all the money going to healthcare? -because Congress is bought

in 2016 people like me will be forced to pay a 695 dollar fine or buy healthcare they don't have because they can't afford it now. They're talking about fining people for being alive.

This bill does not cover everyone either. What about the millions who still can't afford insurance but make more than the minimum amount to qualify for benefits or to dodge the fine?

We need real universal healthcare like a massive branch out of medicare. Not supposed "reform" that makes stocks rise for insurance companies and massive profits for them in the future.

[-] -1 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

Yes, I hear you. I wanted single payer, true Universal Healthcare as well, but that repugnant circus that came to town wouldn't hear anything of it. Remember the death panel hysteria?

But, the fact is it's there. We got provisions we've never had before. Personally, I have already benefited from ACA. So, it's something and it is a step in the right direction. We will have more covered then ever before. But. like you, I believe it should be 100%. Universal!

I will continue to fight but it's also nice to have something to show for all that labor. Sometimes we win one.

In 2008 Obama argued against the insurance mandate. He said it was not a solution

watch the video - he argues against it with Hilary in the 2008 debatres - http://occupywallst.org/forum/insurance-mandate-obama-then-and-now/

I agree with 2008 Obama in his argument against this policy. I disagree with 2012 Obama.

[-] -1 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

Semantics. Human language is much less then scientific. This afflication equally affects us all. These words, by their very nature, are not concise. Dictionaries are a feudal attempt to circumvent the problem.

But if you have BETTER solution then those are some really good sounding words. Put some sweat equity into that balmy hideout and we'll all be sipping HOT tea with the sun soaked sky above and both feet buried in the Coool Sand.

Truly Mnemonical!

THE Puzzler

[-] 2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 12 years ago

A better solution would be tax the rich and expand medicare. Subsidize labor instead of banks and insurance companies. Then workers have more money and will be much less likely to need loans from banks and they will be more likely to afford health insurance.

We need a monetary policy and tax system that drives consumers and builds the middle class.

[-] 0 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

Let's not stop fighting. We have the ball on the field. Let's advance!!!

Puzzlin

[-] 2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 12 years ago

I'm not fighting you. I'm presenting a better solution to some of these problems. Knowledge is power. Share it.

Seriously we should be subsidizing labor instead of subsidizing insurance companies and banks. It gives consumers money in their pockets allowing them to consume which creates more jobs.

Instead of creating trillions of dollars from nothing to give to banks, we should be using the money to create jobs by funding infrastructure and more.

We need a monetary policy and tax system that drives consumers and builds the middle class.

a great video on what drives job creation - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBx2Y5HhplI&feature=player_embedded

[-] -2 points by JusticeF0rTrayvon (-58) 12 years ago

I mean, ideally and everything, we'd have single payer, but if we can't have that, I guess we'll have to settle for making people pay money to the insurance companies. Sounds like a step in the right direction! Baa-aaaah!

You've been played, the insurance companies hired a minority to sell their own welfare program and you went along with it like a good sheep. LOL

[-] 0 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

Why actually, now that you ask before ridiculing (Oh wait... smart people do things, small minds ridicule LOL) the plan Candidate Obama supported was a good one. I still support it. You remember through the fog, right? Good boy. Call it a "fantasy" if you like, but it's the same plan the bastard used to get the two of us to vote for him. Who's the laughing neoconservative? The one in the White house.

Your mom told me you once connected your scope to earth ground. Such a shame, we learned about that in grade school.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

"Fascist bastard"? I disagree entirely. Health needs a public option added and will (like vt and montana are lookin at already) but it is clearly an improvement from the past. Now we can work on adding single payer and ending the private ins industry. You appear simply partisan anti Obama.

[-] -1 points by JusticeF0rTrayvon (-58) 12 years ago

Partisan? LOL!!!

Yeah, Glenn Beck is constantly wailing about how Obama is not left wing enough. LOL

So you like drone assassinations, the NDAA, illegal wars, extrajudicial retention, wiretapping and the theft of poor people's property through eminent domain? Call it what you want, but "fascist bastard" sounds accurate to me. Same as Bush.

Maybe we would have seen an end to these unconstitutional, impeachment-worthy disasters of we had replaced O-bomb-ya with a real Democrat during the primary. the silence was deafening.

Do whatever you want, I sleep well because I voted against him in the spring. If you didn't, the bombs we hurl at the next random country have your name on them.

[-] 2 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

So, Justice, you get your talking points from Glenn Beck. I could have never guessed that by the way rant on without any shred of factual truth to back your diatribe.

You have learned well from your master. He makes no sense either except for folks like you who suffer the same affliction.

The Puzzler

[-] 0 points by JusticeF0rTrayvon (-58) 12 years ago

No, you see, that's something called "sarcasm". I don't watch or listen to Glenn Beck, but I can see how you or any other socially inept person would assume that, merely by reading the above post and seeing the words "Glenn" and "Beck" in succession. Oh! He must get his talking points from Glenn Beck! That makes sense!

Nope, I am a liberal. If you can calm down from your angry furor long enough to read my posts, you will see that I want an end to extrajudicial retention, illegal wiretapping, drone assassinations, and the NDAA.

If that makes me a crazy right wing Beck listener, then I am glad my Democratic party has abandoned me if this is what they don't believe in anymore.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

What illegal wars? Pres Obama ended Bush's illegal iraqi oil war, and has begun the ending of the Afghan war.

Libya? Not illegal. If only we did all our wars like that. Quick and few American created casualties. Yemen, Pakistan?. not illegal. At the request and approval of those Govt.

You don't really know what your talkin about do you? And I may be against drone assassinations but I acknowledge that it is an improvement over republicans wars where we kill hundreds of thousands.

As far as the republican laws against our consitutional rights. We have started the slow process of undoing those offensea. You can't see it I guess but I do. I know this Pres is making progress undoing republicans endless war on terror environment and he has only had 3 yrs.

[-] -1 points by JusticeF0rTrayvon (-58) 12 years ago

Begun ending the Afghan war LOL

Did you see where he extended it until 2017? If that's "ending" it, I'd hate to see what extending it would look like LOL

Maybe you can't read...

So what made Bush's wars illegal? Why, the fact that he never declared a formal war, that's what.

If O-bomb-ya ever declared a war on Libya before fire-bombing them, I must have missed it. Yeah, if all of our wars were like that. Bomb first! Negotiate later!

Who was able to convince you that O-bomb-ya is undoing the "offensea"? Whoever it was, must have given you some good stuff. You've got faith, my man. Blind faith.

A little skepticism?

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

Having troops in a country is what we do. It is how we unravel from right wing illegal wars without hurting ourselves politically. Ending hostilities is what matters.

We ought to be bringing troops home from europe, asia and so forth. This Pres WILL do that! Repubs would not. This Pres will bring troops home from Afghan before repubs.

This Pres has begun cutting military budget. Repubs would increase it. This Pres will cut military a lot more. Repubs will incease.

This Pres has cut mercenary use. And will cut it out entirely. Repubs inceased and would increase more.

What more do you want. don't be unreasonable. Everything takes time. We can be against NDAA, drones, and all the rest but we needto recognize the progress. Protest but don't destroy the only Pres who has begun to undo this mess.

[-] -1 points by JusticeF0rTrayvon (-58) 12 years ago

Oh, okay, I get it now.

Asking for a president that doesn't expand the illegal wiretapping program is "unreasonable".

That single act of fascism is, in itself, impeachment worthy.

Is this how right wing the country has become? You've been brainwashed into thinking that and end to illegal wiretapping is "asking too much"?

And you make absurd comparisons to what the radical right would do. I am not comparing O-bomb-ya to the loon-bags on the right. I am comparing him to a REAL democrat like Buddy Roemer, who we could have replaced him with in the past spring, if we actually cared about the country.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

Buddy Roemer could never win. You clearly do not understand how the power structure has been co opted.

I am against wiretapping, I am against Obama continuation of same. I continue to protest and fully expect that he will end it. I fully expect it because I have seen the progress that he has made.

The right has such a strangle hold on power/and the country that any Pres who wants to get a 2nd term to continue undoing this mess has to continue some of this illegal anti people actions.

That is not an excuse. That is recognizing the reality of how we (the people) have let the right take over.

[-] 0 points by JusticeF0rTrayvon (-58) 12 years ago

Sigh. In your partisan tizzy, were you able to re-read and comprehend what I wrote?

Of course Buddy Roemer cannot win. AS an INDEPENDENT. He could, however, win in a primary challenge to the fascist in the white house. If we had banded together and demanded actual change, we could have kicked Bush III out and replaced him with something real. But this just underscores the fact that protest as they might, most of my friends on the left do not actually care about drone kills, or they would have done something about them.

What most on both sides fail to grasp is this isn’t about healthcare…. It is about giving the state power over the individual… It will allow them in the future to jab your child with the very vaccines people are having adverse reactions to worldwide, it will allow them to dictate what you eat and how long you live….

People think this is about money…. they print the money…. this is about control… this is about population reduction on a mass scale…. Not one nickle of your income tax goes to any service…. NONE…. it all goes to service interest on debt dating back hundreds of years to the shadow government that runs the world with hidden but iron fist….

Can you imagine if just 1 dollar out of everyone’s paycheck funded public healthcare? But no— NONE of the 40% they take from you provides any service…. all the other taxes do that….

Just wait until you see this and agenda 21 crawl up your butts…. From the producer of trading places with Eddie Murphy a documentary that will show you everything you need to know about taxes….

You mean like the tuberculosis vaccine?

After all of these years of successfully stopping tuberculosis dead in it's tracks - we now have it reappear again in this country - due to parents opting out of taking the vaccine.

Should we also opt-out of getting inoculated for small pox?

It's ALL Yellow!!!

[-] 1 points by PandoraK (1678) 12 years ago

If all of those screaming about the AHC being upheld would just hush a few moments and pay attention they might learn something.

IF you have health insurance through your employer, nothing changes. At least as far as the finances go...what does change is that anyone covered under the policy with a pre-existing condition is now covered for that condition.

If you currently have health insurance, nothing changes, unless YOU change it.

If you do not have health insurance and can not afford it there is a 'fix' for that.

If you do not qualify for the 'fix', the state run health coverage will still be available.

Stop the nonsense, do some research and learn what is actually happening.

[-] 2 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 12 years ago

My solution was what we campaigned for in 08- REAL reform (some of the stuff in the bill) simplifying things, and universal healthcare.

This is a freakin joke, total corporate bullshit.

Those should be your solutions too, but apparently you will eat whatever crap they feed you like a good partisan troll.

[-] 0 points by JS93 (-321) 12 years ago

You didn't/don't see ANY obstacles to these goals besides Obama?

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 12 years ago

There are a ton of obstacles, obviously.

They had the super majority, could have done it. Should have been done quick. Instead we got this crap, more war, more bombings, more Bush tax cuts, more Gitmo, more rights taken away.

These politicians are nothing but professional puppets, lying to the public's face.

They could have gotten universal, they had all the votes. They sold us out, AGAIN. Same shit as the last 30 years.

My health ins went up 23% this past year. Giving them more customers with no costs controls is not going to slow this. They have even less reason to be fair now.

[-] 1 points by JS93 (-321) 12 years ago

Are you lying? You are presenting inaccurate info.

Dems never had a "real" majority. Just one and Blue Dogs and Liebermans that were never on Dems team. See Dems don't obey a central command like Cons do. Cons have betrayed the country, willingly throwing it under the bus or taking it hostage. Shitty comps had to be made to avert worse damage. Cons are owned by the PTB in the 1%. Dems try to work for us, but we are fickle and easily misled, as in 2010. We barely turnout 40%, Big Biz and $ turns out a Billion%. Do you wonder why they call the shots, get away with murder, gouging, fraud???

ACA is not perfect, but NOTHING is. It's the first HC reform made in many many decades. It's a vast improvement, and will get better as the rest of it kicks in. We can build on it. No great service starts out full-fledged. The goal is joining the rest of the world with Public HC. Look at the hell we went through just for this. This is because of deep entrenchment on their part and shameful neglect on our part. Democracy dies without public participation, but it can be resuscitated.

Am I reading this correctly or is my English still that bad?
"For individuals who are not exempt, and who do not receive health insurance through an employer or government program, the means of satisfying the requirement is to purchase insurance from a private company.'
But it is all private companies providing the sick-care in this country. Isn't It?
So NOW not only those private companies can ripped us off with their worthless sick-care but also they save money by not having to look for 'customers'; the corporato-Federal Government will make sure they get them... And this is a victory of the people?
A victory of the people would've been if private companies are force to include alternative medicine on their plans, or if these companies would've been force to adjust their prices to the true living standard of the 99%. A true victory of the people it would've been if the cost of health is prices based on how much the patient can afford.
Again how in the hell forcing the private sector prices down the throat of broken-ass Americans is a victory of the people?
Somebody explain please!!!

[-] 0 points by liberybell (49) 12 years ago

How in the hell is this a victory of the people!!!??? Please explain because I am loosing my mind. So corporate has a crapy product (the 'sick-care') with horrible coverage, and horrible prices; they patch it up a bit [like one will do with a ugly, worthless old car] and they force everybody to buy it through a Corporato-Federal mandate. Again how in the hell is that a victory for the people???

I am not anything. If You could call me something perhaps the closest definition will be civilizationalist. I don't know how much You know about health, but THIS that they are offering is not health is SICK-CARE. I don't agree with it and I don't use it whatsoever!!! And there are millions of human beings including over 50% of Americans that know well how far has our western medicine has gone apart from the real health needs of the people. We do not need a reform on how sick-care is pay for. We need a health revolution. Which by the way it is already happening. That is why they are forcing people to 'purchase' that 'toxisurance' because they know people are catching up on undertanding true health. And true health my brother is not on pills and on corporate profits...

Michael Moore. WE? Really? Did you write that from your $2 Million Dollar lakeside mansion? With a net worth of well over $50 MILLION DOLLARS, what are YOU doing to help the 26 million uninsured Americans? I am do sick of the 1%Hollywood elite pathetic hypocrisy. Put up or SHUT UP.

[-] 2 points by jph (2652) 12 years ago

If Moore lives in Michigan on the lake, how is he a Hollywood elite?

Seems he is doing/has done a great deal in raising issues, educating people, and stirring debate on important issues.

What have you done, but bitch?

[-] -1 points by Justoneof99 (80) 12 years ago

You got me there, Moore is a far better bitcher than will ever be as judging by the millions he make doing it via Hollywood films. He is much better fed, also.

Anti-capitalism?

Anti-self serving hypocrisy by fat rich guys who manipulate the 99% for their personal gain while not doing a $#@! thing themselves to help.

the effort to nationalize healtcare has been little more than a doctors vs. lawyers pissing match for 20 years.

on the doctors side: curing the sick, saving lives, god-like abilities

on the lawyers side: politicians and the horrible laws they write, a tort trial lottery system that causes insurance rates to skyrocket, $16 TRILLION in national debt

and people actually root for the lawyers to win.

unfuckingbelievable.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 12 years ago

Oh yeah the poor insurance companies. Does anyone really think they are the victims. Get rid of the corrupt 1% corp private ins. middle men who put profit before people. You stand with insurance corps?

[-] -1 points by slizzo (-96) 12 years ago

The basic concept of insurance, pooling risk and regulating what they can and can't do with the premiums, is sound and has worked for over a century. As soon as the govt became a major player in health care delivery, costs has soared, quality has declined, and confusion has reigned.

Don't be so easily led by the nose to point fingers at an easy target. I realize that as a Statist, it is hard for you to blame govt and politicians. But the facts are clear. Govt intervention has perverted the insurance model beyond repair. And some think the cure is more!

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

A little more time learning is on order. http://www.healthcare.gov/

[-] -2 points by slizzo (-96) 12 years ago

A lot more critical thinking on your part is in order. See that .gov at the end of the URL? What, you expect them to admit thry've made things worse?

Gullible much?

[-] 3 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

So Slizzo, where to you get your superior opinions from? Glenn Beck?

Sean Hannity? Rush Limbaugh? Laura Ingram?

Who???

Also, tell us all how we can know the truth. How do you know, Mr. Slizzo Wizard???

My superior opinions that seem to make you shit your pants since you laughably had no idea Obama said the mandate penalty wasn't a tax when he did come from reading many sources, both biased and neutral. You, OTOH, just lap up whatever bullshit the DNC sends you and you believe it all.

It's so adorable. You're like their little puppy.

Private insurance corps are gauging the American people! When I started working ot $60 a month for good health care. no co pays, reasonable deductibles, included presripts and any dr. When I left work it was $600 large co pays, extra for prescripts, limited dr/hospital choice,

Private insurance kicks people off when they get sick. (very profitable business model)

Private insurance won't provide coverage if you have a pre existing condition. WHAT? they only want healthy people! (profitable business model)

Being pregnant, preexisting cond. Sorry. Even acne they have used against the people.

They have constinually been caught denying payments for no legal reason because they know a percentage of peoplewill give up.

They hike rates for no good reason, well above inflation.

Our premiums have to pay exhorbitant salaries/bonuses, advertizements, contributions to right wing politicians.

They are cleatrly dishonest. They are clearly the problem. Certainly Govt is also part of the problem. Any politician who supports these 1% private insurance corp criminals is to blame. So in that way agree govt is part of the problem.

[-] 0 points by slizzo (-96) 12 years ago

now you are arguing something else because you refuse to face the fact that before govt became heavily involved in healthcare, insurance worked fine. you won't even touch that because you know it is true.

people with 6-figure bills for cancer treatment, heart operations, etc, had coverage and did not go broke. it isn't a coincidence that as govt involvement increased, healthcare quality went down, costs went up, complications increased.

blabber away all you want about how insurance is far from perfect now. not the point.

"Any politician who supports these 1% private insurance corp criminals is to blame."

And no politician has put more money in their greedy pockets going forward than corporate puppet Barack Obama:

What was before 20 years?

hmmmmmmm.......

Oh, that's right, it was just patients and doctors.

Then the lawyers got into it and blew the costs through the roof, so I can't pay cash for treatment anymore.

Seems like there is a simple solution we are missing....
