Great Job Obama, at least they all respect us now:

Well, it took about 70 years.

Yes, from being the world's pariah in the decades following Nazism and World War II, Germany is now the world's favorite country, according to the Anholt-Gfk Nations Brand Index, which measures the image of 50 leading nations.

The Teutonic powerhouse knocked the United States from its longtime perch at the top of the ratings, which measure "twenty-three different attributes that make up the six overall dimensions on which national image is based."

"Germany appears to have benefited not only from the sports prowess it displayed … at the FIFA World Cup championship, but also by solidifying its perceived leadership in Europe through a robust economy and steady political stewardship," said Simon Anholt, who created the index in 2005.

I hate to tell you all Deutsch lovers this, but the Fatherland is dealing with the same problems as us here in the U.S.; the 1% is taking control over there as they did over here, and is doing them in too. Germany is just a little behind us on the downward slide. This "1%" thing is not just a U.S. problem , but a world problem. We the people of the planet need to start getting together and start knocking out this planet wide cancer, before it does us all in.

"Vaterland über alles," will change when it runs in front and collects arrows in its back just like the U.S. I saw the future of nation-states in a basket of crabs. They were all to be dumped into the steaming pot. All try to climb but every crab below nearby grabs at the leader and the mass of crabs falls back into the basket. StillModestCapitalist makes predictions and I make projections. I am comfortable with making this prediction though because human nature has not changed much in millennia.

WOW we WOW we WoW! Are YOU ever STUPID!

Ever hear of something called WW-2??? World War Two???

The last war we actually won.

And because winning it destroyed Germany, we (being liberal-progressives) put it back together again, and instilled the Marshal Plan. Wherein we set up Unionized Labor, and ethical corporation laws.

Hence when the US, Laissez Faire, 1%-GOP caused, crash/heist and attacked the world economy, German labor fought back and made their economy keep working. While our economy and most others went all to the 1% (With rampant unemployment and homelessness) who we subsequently bailed out!!! And they now hide there money abroad, or invoke inversions that do the same thing. Further bankrupting our government!!

You inherited this mess, and we've been brainwashed, but fuck you Obama for letting Germans surpass us!!

Organized Union Labor saved Germany!!! And it also Saved America, creating the greatest middle-class that ever existed, before the 1% set out to destroy it and the 99%!!! WTFU!!!!!

[-] -1 points by BrentWeirick81 (-85) 9 years ago

You obviously don't know your history. Labor unions have been in Germany a long time before WWII.

German labor laws were de-regulated about 10 years when Germany was faced with slow growth.

You people voted Obama in and he has no idea what he is doing. It's obvious and everybody knows it.

Really RW Goofy RW Shit!

The Progressive Marshal Plan saved Germany. And is largely responsible for Germany's current success. Which is why the 1% CRACKED DOWN on unions here!!

Germany was an economic powerhouse prior to both wars only below the US and with higher industrial production than both France and England. Its technological prowess has been well documented with probably the most significant indicator being the superiority of the Tiger and Panther tanks relative to the US tanks.

After the warm Germany was destroyed and experienced very high GDP growth in the '50s. This slowed in the '60 and '70s as equilibrium came back.

If you want a discussion, I would be happy to, but your use of profanity just puts you into a bad category. No wonder, you can't get anyone to listen to you. Maybe you should go burn a building.

The reunified Germany again resumed its place as the number-one economic power in Europe. The EU was created to avoid more wars in Europe, with Germany at its core. I am concerned that the younger Germans may forget why the EU was formed and become fed up with the bailing out of the economically weaker countries. Germany gets a lot from being in the EU, such as ready-made close-by markets without cumbersome border regulations. The so-called "good old days" of independent European countries without the EU were actually not good, with wars galore.

Hasn't Germany got tired of wars already with its centrally located battlefield for all, right at home on German soil?

significant of german arms are sold into the middle east

they are cultural movements against such practices

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 9 years ago

Germany is exporting to the Middle East its centrality of battlefield for all!

In my opinion, we get technological advancement but we never will change human nature. That is why the Ten Commandments are as relevant today as they were when they were written. There is no way we will stop the seven deadly sins.

go to Exodus and read the details after the ten commandments. Then read the Moses' repeat of that in Deuteronomy. The law giver had a lot to say about debt and property. Like other contemporary Mesopotamian priests and kings, he understood how concentration of wealth with a ruling class of banksters and merchants must destroy an economy and what to do about it. That wasn't a tax cut!

Even if one does not believe in God as the bible tells it - there is still a lot of good social information presented in the bible and scorning the money changers (greed acquisition the control of others) was some of the best warnings for a healthy prosperous for ALL society/civilization to heed and guard against. (imo)

I don't believe in anything that is supported by superstitious, trivial or ambiguous evidence. But I do believe Moses, Aristotle, Jesus and Mohammed knew what they were talking about when they censured bankers and usury. Whether by secular or religious measurement, the morality of the rich is bankrupt.

More importantly, if death is like turning off a lamp, which is probable, we can't count on punishment of evil or reward of good in an afterlife. We need to get the bastards now!

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 6 years ago

We need to get the bastards now!

I absolutely agree - we can't let the evil run rampant not if we are in truth trying to live to be the best we can be perfection being a goal that may never be reached is still not a reason we shouldn't try to be as best as we can be.

I believe in God and I actually believe that the bible was inspired writing by God. What I don't believe in - is - man made religion which quite often bends the truths outlined in the bible for their own use/purpose (like the Pharisees, who kept the written word to themselves and told the population what "they" wanted for "their" own purposes) - now reference modern day religion (fanatical in particular) and see how God's word is made exclusionary in one or more ways as well as intolerant (Evangelicals seem to be very exclusionary as well as judgemental and intolerant - not to say that there aren't others around the USA or World, just sayin ya know?) - but the sins they commit are not sins - well - because!

[-] 2 points by flip (7101) 6 years ago

i imagine you blame obama for the failings of human nature also. along wiht your 7 sins we see amazing altruism and self sacrifice everywhere. poor germans helping refugees and on and on.

you are oblivious to the recent history of the bush administration and how it made a mess of the world. that is why obama was the darling of the ruling establishment - pepsi and mcdonalds was having trouble selling around the world because we were so hated for what bush/cheney did. now that i knwo you can rea go back and look at the business press circa 2006-7 and see for yourself.

blaming obama - what a crock - he was worthless but that is not the point

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 9 years ago

I am, in this sense only, an optimist. Human nature may not change much but human institutions can. Ancient teachings hold much wisdom but we must find our own particular paths guided by ancient wisdom.

[-] 1 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 9 years ago

or even witness a cohesive list of all seven in our immediate memory

Actually us nuking two cities and scaring the rest of the world into making the dollar the intermediary by law created our incredible growth.

Of course, it was a "progressive" president who ordered the nuking of those two cities, so I guess you are sort of right lol.

[+] -4 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 9 years ago

Sorta ~ completely rebuilding, progressing and UNIONIZING, nothing whatsoever to do with Obama ~ right!!! dickweed

[-] 3 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

Thats the entire point of crushing a country, so that you can rebuild it how you want. Why do you think the president is bombing so many people right now? To eventually impose will.

Break and rebuild, all sorts of analogies for that one.

[-] -2 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 9 years ago

IDIOCRACY!!

What the 1% IS DOING!!!

NOT what we want to do!!
