Forum Post: A simple idea to fix some issues on this forum

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

A major issue on this forum is the banning and censoring of certain users.

Shooz brought up a good point in that some users may need to be banned. Some people come here to spam the forum. Those people should be banned.

The problem is, many legitimate users have been banned in my opinion.

One way to fix the problem and create more trust and fusion between the moderators and users is to give a voice to the users on who should be banned or not.

beautifulworld, shadz66, Renneye, gnomunny, flip, bullfrog, HCHC, Odin, Peterpropotkin, arturo, GirlFriday, zendog, shooz, DKAtoday, Thrasymaque, jart, and all the other regular users should have a voice.

We know many people don't agree with certain bans. Any user should be allowed to question a ban by simply creating a POLL post about it. For example, everyone could state their opinion on whether Odin should be banned or not. If we have a minimum of 10 regular users or so that vote on the issue it would be more democratic than having the mods decide on their own.

For example, should we reinstate Odin. If the majority of users say yes, than that user is reinstated. No questions asked. That's what most users would want, and that should be what the moderators are aiming for. The user who the majority of people decide should remain bans will understand people don't want him here. Easy.

We should do a vote to see if HCHC, Peterpropotkin, Odin, Thrasymaque, etc... should be unbanned.

I think this is one of the best ways to stop the ongoing bickering here. Let the majority of users decide. Use democracy.

I think it's fair. People who use the forum everyday should have a say in who is banned or not. I don't see why shooz should have more power over other long time users like beautiful world, shadz66, Renneye, or anyone else. The whole idea of Occupy is to push for more democracy and this is a great way to do it. The goal of the mods should simply be to make sure the community is happy and well run, not to run it themselves. They should be like guides that move us towards more democracy.

In any case, it sure would not hurt to try. Why not try for a few weeks. If it fails, then we come back to this authoritarian model.

if I keep coming back it's because I don't consider my ban legitimate. It did not go through a democratic process. If there was a poll and most people voted for me to leave permanently I would. But, I think most people want me here. Only a democratic choice would reveal the truth. Until then, I just wish I could keep one username. It would be easier for everybody.

Only the truth, reveals the truth.

You do not believe in it.

You've already admitted to being dedicated liar.

Mike, you are the most dishonest person I ever met online. You should go back to taking pictures of flowers and kittens. You are a horrible moderator. You should be working on engaging users to join the forum, not pushing them away. The way to do that is to increase the level of democracy, not reduce it. Occupy is all about increasing democracy.

You haven't met me.

You know my name.

I don't even know the names of your puppets.

You've admitted to being a liar.

There is no veracity within you.

We need more democracy. That's what Occupy is all about. Stop changing the subject with deflections.
