So i have an idea that i have been thinking about for some time for the record i am anti war. I believe everything can be solved with words and not action.

I think that we should have mandatory boot camp in the United States. This would be something that all citizens would have to go to. Here are some ideas that i thought would benefit us as a society

  1. It provides skills to those it is like a tech school
  2. No mandatory service time unless they choose to do so.
  3. Less severe than actual boot camp no weapons training.
  4. Will provide confidence to those since working out increase endorphins creating new self-image
  5. Will drastically cut down on obesity
  6. Instead of military strategy classes there would be simple classes that will teach people useful skills to have in life
  7. Paid servicemen salary

Its not a full proof idea but it is an idea

i think it is a social program that most of America could get behind let me know what you think.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

[-] 1 points by nobnot (529) from Kapaa, HI 11 years ago

Something that all citizens HAVE TO GO TO.Is your first name Adolf?

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

No not at all unlike him there is no cruel intentions behind serving. America has gotten to the point where drastic times call for drastic measures we need shape up the normal individual to be all they can. There is no military action done in this but rather self improvement.

[-] 1 points by nobnot (529) from Kapaa, HI 11 years ago

You need to shape people up?What are you a latent D.I .Self improvement starts with the individual. And I do not need any more goverment improvement.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

Yes i look at the streets of America and i am saddened by who i see and what is acceptable as normal. The answer is that you can always improve yourself and when you don't accept help is when it can become problematic.

[-] 1 points by nobnot (529) from Kapaa, HI 11 years ago

I saddened by people that see the world as you do.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

and i think something drastic needs to be done

[-] 1 points by JustinDM (251) from Atascadero, CA 11 years ago

great, lets start up the camps. The first people we should send are the one persent. Then all the politicians who have excepted bibes... excuse me, 'donations' from them. Then we can send all the banks and corporate CEO's(if any are left from the first round) who robed our treasury. After we teach them what hard work means they can use the showers.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

its to late for all of them it has to be a youth program

[-] 1 points by JustinDM (251) from Atascadero, CA 11 years ago

sorry, my humor turned a sour color there.

In order to have an efective army, troops need to be conditioned. Obeying orders without hesitation and moving in the direction of live weapons fire is not something that people do naturally. Boot camp provides this conditioning. In truth it is a form of brainwashing which I understand is necessary to maintain the sovernty of this nation. But the notion of requiring all citizens to undergo this conditioning is a truly scary thought. There is no guaranty that the 'program' wont have untold effects on society.

"In truth it is a form of brainwashing which I understand is necessary to maintain the sovernty of this nation."

It sounds as if you are already brainwashed.

Brainwashing is the basis that allows all war to exist. When the people cannot see what they are doing is a crime, and instead see it as a patriotic act, that illusion becomes the reality that every tyrant has wielded for thousands of years.

[-] 1 points by JustinDM (251) from Atascadero, CA 11 years ago

I never said I thought our foreign policy over the last fifty years was patriotic. It has done more to undermine the principals of this nation than any foreign power could have hoped to do. What I said was that I understood what it takes to train an army capable of defending our land in a world that does not always get along. If you think that the US is the only agresor out there, then you are the one who is deluded. I do believe that these wars we have been engaged in are crimes and although i would do everything I can to stop them, I would not then through down my arms and let this nation be concurred ether.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

thats why i think it needs to be less severe than boot camp. I would be worried about the brain washing too. But would it be any different than how schools are done. I would see this as an extension of high school where we send kids to be trained will skill such as welding cooking and trade applications. So in a way it would be set up like boot camp but not a boot camp as we're training these kids to kill people

[-] 1 points by JustinDM (251) from Atascadero, CA 11 years ago

Why not just sugest a vocational program after high school?

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

I suggest those for all people that are not suited for college or rather doo something like that.

I would say it is just like a vocational school but with physical training

[-] 2 points by JustinDM (251) from Atascadero, CA 11 years ago

Good then call it that and offer P.E. classes as well.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

ok then i think it would loose it purpose if it wasnt mandatory

[-] 1 points by JustinDM (251) from Atascadero, CA 11 years ago

All public education is mandatory.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

i mean the physical part of working out and having it like boarding school

[-] 1 points by JustinDM (251) from Atascadero, CA 11 years ago

Perfect, call it vocation camp. Then the one percent can go to the Ivey leagues while the 99% go to work camps, sounds swell. Will there be koolaid?

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

cant buy your way out all must go the idea isn't to turn people into soldiers but to train people to be better humans not zombies but humans that will have skills and a future

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

More and more people are getting 4 year college degrees and then they go straight into trade school. It's getting tougher to get these jobs and the schools are regional. Forget the military. OWS needs to get serious about urban agraculture/farming. That's the future. It's hard work but the payoff is great. Good food!

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

Trade schools are made for those who can not or do not wish to get a college education

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

In the past that was definietly true. Things are changing though. It depends where you live. There were no trade schools to speak of where I grew up in western New York. Here in Wisconsin the trade schools and community college system are awesome. Everything else about the state pretty much sucks. If you are looking to skip college you have to explore different things.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

It should go back to that. In industry we are short welders and other skilled laborers. I would say the state i live in has a great college and community school program.

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

growingpower isn't political and they're not looking to be but hey, everyone has to eat.

its just an idea i would say its more of a peaceful movement

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

Lol. Must be election time. We hear this national service bit every 4 years and then it gets dropped.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

I dont want it how it done in military based societies but rather how it is done in Switzerland.

so what do you think

[-] 1 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

They get to take their service weapons and ammo home in Switzerland, don't they?

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

yes they do there is a mp5 in every building

[-] 1 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

And Switzerland is a neutral country.

[-] 2 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

yes it is i think we should move to a neutrality too

[-] 1 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

It would save trillions of dollars.

The MIC would be in real trouble though.

That would effect just about everyone in congress.

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

It will never fly in the US not even if people have a military/non-military option which of course it would have. It's a good idea but Americans have too much of a libertarian streak to bother with a national service.Politicians don't need a national service to fill out the ranks, they can just fuck up the economy really good for a while and wait for people to join because they can't get any other job. Clinton and Obama both campaigned on it and dropped it as soon as they took office. It's probably a good idea but it's a total dead end. With no draft/national service, politicians can do whatever they want as far as foreign policy and there's isn't a damn thing we can do about it.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

Ok i understand

Complete bullshit

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

why

[-] 0 points by CitizenofAmerika (-71) 11 years ago

Sounds like Germany,Italy, and Japan in the 30's.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

i see similarities but if done correctly it is just social program there to benefit the individual

[-] -1 points by CitizenofAmerika (-71) 11 years ago

But who will determine what is correct? That is the age old question. Don't misunderstand. I see what you are saying and can agree. But the potential to abuse that power is enormous.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

yes it is but is it any different than those who control our public schools?

[-] 0 points by CitizenofAmerika (-71) 11 years ago

Not really.....

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

and we let them control our schools whats wrong with making high school students go to a trade school that is structured in a fashion that strives to turn them into better humans. Yes it will be rough on their bodies but we are fat lazy stupid humans drastic measures need to be placed to help the average citizens.
