Forum Post: A New Direction

I was originally all for the movement, right when it began. However, ever since, the movement has gone downhill. While I understand that there are those in the movement that don't represent the majority of OWS (unfortunately, these are the people that get on the news, and are presented by the mass media), I still think that OWS has began to run itself into the ground.

I understand that always occupying a public space, regardless of the law, is necessary to the movement. However, the public space shouldn't be crucial to the public, as congesting it will inconvenience the 99% which you represent and slowly turn the majority of the populace against you. The occasional march is understandable and a great way for showing your numbers, but when the public is against you, it will only worsen your reputation. I believe that you should keep up the nonviolent occupations of unneeded space, but that the majority of your action should be political. You need a legal figurehead, and a political presence.

If this post gets replies, don't dissolve into a flamewar. Thanks.

Don't step on your own ideas under the pretext that "you're just a high-schooler". Your voice is important; it represents the next generation. The only thing that matters is your arguments.

If anyone, including yourself, claims that your arguments are worthless because you are just a high schooler they are making a logical fallacy called an argumentum ad verecundiam (appeal to authority): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority

Don't let them do this. Demand that they engage in an honest debate by making use of proper counter-arguments.

BTW - You write very well for a high schooler. Good post.

Thanks, Glaucon. It's nice to know that there are still those who view us as people, too.
