Forum Post: A more organized OWS Forum?

Forum reform? This forum is overwhelming for someone seeking to become more involved in the Occupy movement. I live in an isolated area with a small population outside a major city and would like to engage in issues facing the movement through online communication. Especially as the cold weather comes to many parts of the world it is increasingly difficult for people with young families or transportation issues to engage with this movement - but many of us are politically active online. I think a more organized forum might help others become involved as well. (It would certainly be less intimidating for someone newly involved with OWS - can we make this happen to build community and add folks to the active, involved number of supporters?) It's difficult to keep track of new topics without constantly sitting in front of the screen, and I think it would help immensely to group topics into general areas at the very, very least. More suggestions? (Perhaps this has been addressed - in any case I haven't a clue how to find out without backtracking through days of random posts)

The most important thing to do is visit an occupation close to you and be prepared to spend at least 24 consecutive hours there and sit through at least one complete GA. Most people have at least a week end when they can do this. Then go home and find 10 or so relatively like minded people, though facebook or internet personals, or twitter or any of the other various social networks, or even the old fashioned way of having a network of friends. Get them together and start a GA. Put a website together. You'll attract people. When you get strong enough start an occupation. Look in a mirror. We are all leaders.

almost a month ago now we were promised sub forums and this has never materialized. The base assumption people need to make and understand is that this forum is agent smiths living room and its a giant disorganized mess because thats what agent smith likes.

Move out of this forum and onto the wiki.

We already have it, please visit: http://www.themultitude.org/

We are the first phpbb based occupy forum, others followed us but we are the original and still the best.

Probably will have to find another forum, definitely. Thanks for the suggestion, will be on the lookout for something more 'local'as well.

Grouping topics is a good idea. I still don't know how to start a thread.

We need a forum where only OWS supporters can post. We don;t want to hear any our perspectives or positions.

This is such a foolish statement. The only way to win an debate and change minds is to understand the opposition. Unless, you are joking, then I apologize.

When seeking information, it is better to be able to peruse pros then cons, or cons then pros allowing the mind to best absorb points from both sides and thus creating an educated base from which to form an opinion.

If you were seeking to learn about asprin, you would want to know the positive or negative aspects first before seeking the opposition form.

Yes infringe free speech. Only allow people who agree. The essence of democracy. Throw out anyone who doesn't agree so we can claim utopian consensus. HAHAHA. I hope you were being sarcastic Vlad.

[-] 1 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 12 years ago

Some people are just here to disrupt discussion. They don't debate, they disrupt & post lies.

They have no inherent right to post on this or any other forum and we are not bad people or free speech infringers for wanting to be away from them.

I've visited many right wing blog sites who ban & delete opposing viewpoints. This is not unique to OWS.

You still havent helped her or others know how to post new topics so ows isnt unique but unremarkable + censoring discouraging. Aggravating when u see what is being trollstarted.
