Forum Post: 99% Unity Idea

Posted 10 years ago on Sept. 21, 2013, 7:28 a.m. EST by lkindr (58)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Here Libertarian means the law of Liberty.

http://bilib.webs.com

(I changed the OP here because the previous one seemed to lead to bickering, which just depresses me, and I wanted to leave something positive in its place. I'm progressive plus libertarian etc.)

Not sure this is possible. I don't agree with progressive Democrats on some issues or conservatives on most issues, obviously, but I've always tried to be respectful. Seems doomed these days, on this forum. Too many egos taking things personally all the time and those in power have an authoritarian "My way or the highway" mentality.

It is very true that when we approach people we disagree with in a loving and honest way we have a much better chance of getting them to see our side. The all or nothing, swearing, approach does not work. So, I really like your comment below that starts with "Since accusing people...."

The forum is very important to me and I would like to see people at least be respectful of each other. If that means just letting people say what they want and if you don't like it don't post on that thread or whatever. There has to be some way to bring everyone together without the constant banning of true occupiers and the removal of comments.

[-] 1 points by lkindr (58) 10 years ago

I updated the OP again now at the end to show my eyepatch finding as the solution to all of our problems, esp. the problem of negativity, pessimism etc.

[-] 2 points by beautifulworld (23769) 10 years ago

LOL. Okay, there is some truth to eye exercises and the brain's functioning, but I likely won't be trying it. Good luck.

Whats up with that?

You wanna put out a new post - Fine - you just don't completely change the post you already put out and people are replying to.

I would put it as committed to social suicide.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

All of the comments are still here. Just not the changed post that the comments are not in reply to.

it does put a bad taste in one's mouth.

To say the least - to completely change the post so as it has no resemblance as to what was originally posted - making all the comments on the thread totally out of context.

and I see hc is online

Oh yes - and he just removed ( deleted ) a really asinine comment.

I replied to your earlier deleted stupid comment as follows ( in a PM ) - funny it really still is good for your current comment as well:

Eeyore - that really you or did your account get hacked.

Why you would have a problem with removing a post that replaced the original post. So changing context as to not be related to the comments already made to the original post. I do not know.

R you a fool? Or just not thinking clearly?

Naughty naughty Zen. Well perhaps not. Seems like a good prolonged rant that very few will see due to their brevity on the board may do him some good.

Very strange to say the least - should be removed as it is no longer relevant to the comment thread.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 10 years ago

Every time that I see one of these threads it reads like so:

You can have right wing support if you do what we want, focus on what we want and only speak of those issues that we might align with. Basically, jump through hoops for our support because we have no intention of doing it.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

It could be stated as - We'll promise you the moon ( hell we didn't wanna go there in the 1st place ) - but are already set on giving you nothing - and take away what ever we can as well.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 10 years ago

Absolutely.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Kinda ties in with double or opposite speak = Right to work ( yeah we will tell you what to do and you will love it or leave - hah workers rights indeed )

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 10 years ago

Exactly. It reminds of used car salesman-y tactics. It's all fixed up to look like you made the choice when in reality you didn't.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 10 years ago

To get an understanding of how propaganda works.

Here's the last three headlines, preceded by the introduction.

The comment is in part: Too many egos taking things personally all the time and those in power have an authoritarian "My way or the highway" mentality.

ANSWER #1: QUIET THEIR LEFT BRAINS

ANSWER #2: FOCUS ON ONE-ISSUE AGREEMENTS; IGNORE DISAGREEMENTS FOR NOW

UPDATE: EYEPATCH TO QUIET "LEFT" BRAINS

In effect it says..........

The "left brain" is one too many egos.

Follow the "right brain" is implied.

And then of course there's the phony "cure" for the "left brain" issue.

Yeah.......We want to get the money out of politics too, but motives count, and this smacks of an ulterior motive..

It wasn't about the reality.

I must have struck a nerve though, as it's run for the shelter of libe(R)topia........Jesus endorsed no less.

What a sham.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Well I don't know what the authors intentions are - but ya just don't go and change your whole post - after people have been making comments on it.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Yep - set up so that the buyer thinks that they are to look stupid if they are to disagree or ask questions.

[-] -1 points by windyacres (1197) 10 years ago

Yep, it's hopeless. We can shut down the forum now, or just allow the forum to remain for people to complain.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

This is about the forum? Or are You making this about the forum. Because this forum is about progress - making progress - not about digging in your heels and screaming NO NO NO NO NO ( those would be the fossil fuel supporters - supporters of the corp(se)oRATists in office - supporters of the very wealthy & corp(se)oRATions )

The 99% includes conservatives and liberals. When you say "our' support, do you mean liberals'? How is asking conservatives and liberals to focus on ending bailout policies asking liberals to jump through hoops? Conservatives would be restricting themselves too. Do you have a better suggestion on how to get the 99% to unify for survival? Or do you prefer to keep marching straight ahead over the cliff? Or what's the alternative? Pray for divine intervention? Not that I'm against that.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 10 years ago

The 99% includes conservatives and liberals.

Obviously.

When you say "our' support, do you mean liberals'?

If you are confused then read it again.

How is asking conservatives and liberals to focus on ending bailout policies asking liberals to jump through hoops? Conservatives would be restricting themselves too.

Why don't we strike through "ending bailout policies" and insert "bailout Detroit" as the words, for just a minute? Right wing doesn't restrict themselves.

How about we insert key information like defunding until it is unworkable and then say.........with shifty eyes........bail out policy?

Do you have a better suggestion on how to get the 99% to unify for survival? Or do you prefer to keep marching straight ahead over the cliff? Or what's the alternative? Pray for divine intervention? Not that I'm against that.

Back your unions, maintain public education and continue to push for housing, universal health care, clean water and farm to table food. It is time to end faux privatization. Go after the real SNAP fraud. Hang all PR groups and libertopians.

Since accusing people of being ignorant or evil (which I'm not saying you're doing) doesn't encourage them to try to understand your concerns, can you think of ways to phrase your concern so that conservatives would likely tend to understand the concern and be cooperative in seeking solutions?

I think many conservatives tend to agree that the bailouts of big banks have greatly harmed the economy (and the middle and lower classes). Since politicians seem intent on continuing to give the banks all the bailout money they want, can conservatives be persuaded to help think of and implement possible solutions to end politicians' recklessness with public monies?

[-] -1 points by yodavision (3) 10 years ago

What if you think that the 99% think like you think? But they actually do not.

What is your concept of unity then? I wouldn't put your concept down, I simply point out something important.

What if technically we already were unified, but the corrupted media corporations psychologically divided us?

[-] 1 points by lkindr (58) 10 years ago

I feel pretty certain that the major media do divide us, as their owners or employers pay them to do, largely by polarizing people's thinking. I've been all over the political spectrum myself, so I think I understand all sides' thinking better than most people do. Here's an exercise that might be productive.

Let's see if liberals can understand one conservative concern, namely war. Conservatives support recent U.S. wars because they believe terrorists are intent on destroying or conquering all Christian nations. So they're concerned about ending the threat to survival of their nation/s or their way of life. It appears to me that the major media have been reinforcing this fear. Otherwise, why would the Democrats in Congress and the White House be continuing the war mongering? And I think conservatives view liberals as godless traitors, which I'm sure the major media also reinforce constantly.

Who should liberals blame for these conservative views? The conservative public? Or the major media, i.e. the 1% who own and control the major media?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Let's try another tack. I think of conservatism - I think of conserve. I think of conserve - and I think of saving the environment - I think of the conservative party in office - and I think they could care less about saving the environment and worse are actively working to destroy the environment.

This exercise can go on for quite awhile. But lets look at it this way also. The conservative party in office is loosing supporters in droves.
