i've read the article and haven't seen anything about 87 people getting all the money. 87 people are on the ows finance committee.

why the spin?

rayl,

Don't know if you missed it or the article was updated but-

"Although the Occupy Wall Street finance committee's website lists 87 members, Kaufman said the core was about six people, including a lawyer, an accountant and a tattoo artist.

They deal with more than 400 donations coming in daily via credit card, averaging less than $50 each. Actually getting those donations has proved hard."

It's about a quarter of the way down in the article.

yes, i've read that but nothing about them 'getting all the donations'. the title of the threads sounds like the 87 are getting all the money for themselves when actually they are handling the money for ows.

Oh, I interpreted it that the 87 were handling it for OWS. Not getting it personally.

here's an article about amalgamated bank: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20110926/FINANCE/110929911 they've obviously made bad loans and practice fractional reserves like everybody else, they also seem to do some good depending on your point of view - but the question remains: why should donations to OWS go into amalgamated's (read Magic Johnson, Wilbur Ross, Ron Burkle) coffers?

187illuminati: on your first youtube vid the ad that pops up is for "How to buy gold"!

"CNN Money" website has a video called "Occupy Wall Street Money Man" with a 30 second Verizon ad at the front of it. Money Man? OWS, brought to you by Verizon? Look, I know the mainstream media will try to spin and discredit the movement, but now it seems like some people and companies who have nothing to do with the movement are now profiting from it. I dunno, it's disconcerting to me.

as a person who is in complete sympatico with the movement, who has been unemployed for over a year, who has donated his time and artwork to the cause --- here is what concerns me: you put any money in amalgamated bank, and suddenly they can use that money any way they want, undisclosed to you (the finance committee) or any of your supporters. If they blow it, FDIC only covers $250K. Shouldn't the donations be in more of a lockbox, not in the hands of two billionaires?

"Amalgamated sold 40 percent of its stock to two of America's best-known investors, Wilbur Ross and Ron Burkle. Ross buys and merges distressed companies in industries such as steel, coal and auto parts. Burkle is best known for his investments in grocery companies and has good relations with unions. Both Ross and Burkle are billionaires."

so by donating to OWS, a person is actually donating to Ross and Burkle?

"Although the Occupy Wall Street finance committee's website lists 87 members, Kaufman said the core was about six people, including a lawyer, an accountant and a tattoo artist." --- that's the exact quote from the article. No spin, just a heads up that reuters put this article out. and I quote "Chuck Kaufman, the Tucson-based national co-coordinator of Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ), the movement's fiscal sponsor." I thought OWS was leaderless, anarchic, etc... it's just a question - who runs it and who gets the money?
