5th Nov - Blank Banners / White Flags / Armbands

http://politicalblindspot.com/hacker-group-anonymous-says-they-will-target-government-globally-on-nov5th/

As it is a global day, to get beyond V for Vendetta /masks one idea is to link it to a colour white, as a uniting emblem eg the suggestion for white as a global symbol of peace anti-war. Turkish solidarity protests recently used white and of course it is good for anti-war / imperialism.

White armbands could become a potent symbol of the movement - see eg

Two thousand years ago, a Roman Senator suggested that all slaves wear white armbands to better identify them. "No," said a wiser Senator. "If they see how many of them there are, they may revolt."

See also http://www.whiteflag.info which is a web-site written by a supporter of the Spanish indignados

Also white is the symbol of the Nigerian people's movement against Shell and other corporates plundering in the Niger Delta and also it signifies the Russian democracy movement. All colours together make white

Blank banners / placards can also symbolise a new start / blank canvas for the writing / drawing of the new society.

This is not to say we cannot call for and use flags of all colours but perhaps they should be plain (to avoid sectarian symbols etc) and perhaps with white in the majority and foregrounded ( for the above reasons as the symbol of truce between nations, peace, surrender to the power of love - while at the same time we stand, up for justice, community, freedom and dignity the world over.

Nov 5th actions planned worldwide http://millionmaskmarch.org/locations http://occupylondon.org.uk/events/opvendetta-millionmaskmarch-nov5th-2013/

I don't remember - somebody help.

Was Guy Fawkes a communist?

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (21780) 6 months ago

Nope. Just Catholic.

Maybe the new pope will sport the mask this Nov 5th.

Ah . . . well then.

Perhaps the original text will do . . .

.

Remember, remember!

The fifth of November,

The Gunpowder treason and plot;

I know of no reason

Why the Gunpowder treason

Should ever be forgot!

Guy Fawkes and his companions

Did the scheme contrive,

To blow the King and Parliament

All up alive.

Threescore barrels, laid below,

To prove old England's overthrow.

But, by God's providence, him they catch,

With a dark lantern, lighting a match!

A stick and a stake

For King James's sake!

If you won't give me one,

I'll take two,

The better for me,

And the worse for you.

A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,

A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,

A pint of beer to wash it down,

And a jolly good fire to burn him.

Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!

Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!

Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

I don't know what is wrong with me this morning. I had meant to include a link, just for those who might be interested. Silly me.

Which was here

The poem I think kinda does fall apart after the opening. Both meter and rhyme of the first six lines all produce a dramatic tension that really tends to fade after that. Then again, I'm neither Catholic, nor obliged to swear allegiance to the British monarch.

Shit, after hitting my enter key after every line I figured it was searchable. I should have posted the link.

I'm over here watching this little thingy: “Ted talked about healthcare, compared it to Nazis,” Stewart read to his audience. “As comparisons go, he was off by a lot-zi. Healthcare, he said, would end this great nation. A point made after hours of mouth masturbation.” http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/09/26/jon-stewart-uses-dr-seuss-to-mock-ted-cruzs-hours-of-mouth-masturbation/

hard to believe that effeminate . . . repelican . . . was elected from TEXass . . . which I suggest is simply one more illustration of the hypocrisy that is modern U.S. conservatism . . .

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (21780) 6 months ago

Absolutely.

Ok. I have got my reading for the moment down. Back to the topic. I have always found the rhymes of this time period fascinating. I think it was much like how the French would create rhymes to pass along messages. Especially, with rhymes like rock a bye baby.

That said, Fawkes was a monarchist and it was after the fact. Something that I find rather puzzling about the use of him.

which use? during the event? The movie? or more lately?

What I find interesting is that the movie illustrates the elasticity of iconography over time.

IF you take the poem as an icon, compare its use in the movie with its original meaning, it becomes clear that a bit of hijacking has taken place.

Just as it has with the mask - in the movie the mask was a device designed to protect one individual - someone bent on blowing shit up to extract revenge; while today no such single individual is known to exist disrupting media communication and disturbing the pubic from their complacency. Without that single individual the main purpose of the mask may become deceit.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (21780) 6 months ago

More lately.

The problem with that elasticity is that one can never tell who is doing the hijacking or the agenda.

I thought the movie was fairly clear but I'm having difficulty describing it exactly. I should watch the movie again.

As for the Guy Fawkes mask and its use today, that presents a very interesting question.

here is some suggested text:

We, the people will rise up on the 5th of Nov

On the 5th of November we will take to the streets and we'll show that the Net is ours. We will reclaim our rights and claim for civil disobedience, we will reject violence with non-violence actions. It is time to checkmate each and every Government.

On the 5th of November we will be anonymous, but we know each other, we are the people, we are in the system, we can collapse it. Since we have the knowledge, we can build a new one.

On the 5th of November each one of us will find a way for collective disobedience, it is the time to hack our lives. The networks will be our path, from the streets to the cables, we are on both sides, we are everywhere.

Global Civil Disobedience and Mass Social Strike

5N - #BillionsMaskMarch

DID YOU HEAR? It is the sound of your world collapsing. It is that of ours rising anew. The day that was the day, used to be night. And night will be the day, that will be the day.

And remember We are legion!

Freedom! Justice! Democracy!

You might want to correct the "all colors mixed make white".
