Wondering if there are elements in "the powers that be" that are trying to drag this movement through the mud and kill it, condoms on Cath. girls and violent actions speak of plants and infiltration to me. Seems this political action needs to stay close to it's non violent course, maybe take a page from Gandhi and have some non violent actions that speak to the 99% in this country in ways that are hard to deny. Like the salt march Gandhi had, how bout a 1 cent for the 1% action, they are stealing our money anyway why don't we just give it to them, a penny at a time...all those pennies are going to be hard to ignore and it allows everyman to join in the action, we all have pennies that the 1% needs and i am sure some creative ways to deliver these can be come up with....

I think anarchists have been in this movement since late October. They've glommed on to Occupy to commit mayhem. They come out of buildings and side streets as Occupiers march by.

I also believe agents provocateur have infiltrated Occupy and probably work for those we oppose. This sort of thing has occured in the past, at least as far back as the Haight and the Monterey Pop Festival. The rumor back then was that the chap we see in the Pennebaker doc with the artwork(?) on his bald head was CIA.

30,000 people marched across the Brooklyn Bridge last Fall. Lots has happened since then that's got the opposition's attention. Don't kid yourselves folks, they're very interested, shall we say, in doing anything they can to try to make sure we get discredited in the minds of the public at large.

Based on what we saw downtown, self professed members of OWS are doing a fine job of dragging something noble through the mud. Liberals have a tough time getting things done sometimes because they think everyone means well. You need to understand human nature, and accept that there may be bad members of the movement - and get tougher with your own. Assuming that there are "plants" and "infiltration" is silly. What's more naive is thinking that anarchists can stage a loving, peaceful movement! Look within, this was not started by any "Gandhi" type characters!

The protesters should immediately isolate any protester that is violent to consistently show each other and the world that violence is not a part of this movement. This way we can all know that any violent protester is sure to be a provocateur infiltrator of the 1%. It is the only way to ensure that the movement doesn't get taken away from us. Any violent protester should know from the get-go that they do not have a friend in OWSers.

Isolate him or her with what?

Hi, Thrasy.

[-] 4 points by Renaye (522) 12 years ago

Denounce them, point them out to officers en masse, let others know that this will be their fate if they betray the movement by becoming violent. I know that sounds harsh, but if we don't give up the few violent protesters, than we lose the whole damn thing.

Problem is, the NYCGA supports the activities of the black bloc, and the GA in Oakland just voted 70% in support their activities as well.

[-] 1 points by Renaye (522) 12 years ago

Then it looks like the 1% infiltrators have successfully doomed this movement. Sad.

No, it wasn't the 1%. It was the anarchists who started the movement. The 1% don't make decisions in Occupy general assemblies. The anarchists control those.

[-] 0 points by Renaye (522) 12 years ago

What do we truly know about the anarchists? I'll bet that if they were investigated, they are likely connected to the 1%. Not paranoid, just know from history that this is the way that revolutions and uprisings start.

Can you say George Soros?

You should do some research instead of dabbling in assumptions. That's how conspiracy theories get started.

We know a lot about the anarchists. We know they started the movement, and that David Graeber was one of the founding intellectuals of OWS. OWS is an anarcho-communist protest. I doubt very much that the anarchists who started OWS are connected to the 1%. It's much more likely that they simply do not have a problem with property destruction. OWS is inspired by the Egyptian protests and other direct action protests in which property violence is common.

Hi Thrasy.

[-] 2 points by Renaye (522) 12 years ago

Good call! This is what elite provocateurs do. They play both sides of the movement to eventually guide it to violence. Been done throughout history. Thanks, I didn't realize at first that it was him.

You are naive. Check your history regarding the elite and manufactured uprisings. David Graeber and the others may not even know that they were recruited to do the bidding of the ruling elite. I'm just saying that history does repeat itself in this regard.

How does destroying people's private property (people by the way that would probably be our allies if we didn't get them angry with us) help our movement in any way? You can't possibly agree that this is positive for OWS?!

[-] -1 points by DJStarDust (-10) 12 years ago

Give me a break with your nonsensical conspiracy theory clap-trap.

No, I don't agree that property destruction is a good thing. That's why I criticize the organizers of this movement, demand more transparency, and hope that the earnest protesters can also stand up and struggle to wrestle the control of the general assemblies away from the anarchists.

I heard the same thing. Is that vote documented in the GA minutes? I was looking on the OO site but couldn't find it. I couldn't find it in the NYCGA site either.

I got the info from you. TH
