Sign Up Sheet for Brothers and Sisters Who Need a Place To Rest

Posted 13 years ago on Sept. 13, 2011, 10:41 p.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

This sign up sheet is only to facilitate connections for people who need a place to rest. People should contact potential hosts to make arrangement, get addresses, etc. www.couchsurfing.com is a recommended alternative for finding a place to crash if this list doesn’t serve your needs.

I am so on board with this occupation and wish I could be there! As a member of the Couchsurfing community, however, it's MOST definitely not about 'a place to crash,' and you will be hard-pressed to find a place to stay if that is the mindset you approach your potential hosts with. Good luck with the searches, and if you do indeed try Couchsurfing, make sure you have a completely filled-out profile, a photo, and that you send a well-written request to only a FEW members, as copy/pastes to a dozen hosts are highly frowned upon. NYC is one of the busiest cities worldwide for CS hosts, so hopefully that will help increase some of your chances. All the best!

"Stay at your tax payer funded section 8 house you fucking leeches"

Yaaawn; typical tired old tactics to spit in the face of your fellow citizen's right to criticize and dissent: if they are lower income they are called "just jealous" or "leeches" and if they are middle class or have more money they are called "hypocrites" - that way you COVER EVERYONE, how convenient! That way NO ONE is allowed to voice criticism of the perverse, sick, undemocratic economic-political SYSTEM.

In fact those who are better off who criticize the system they are doing well under are no more "hypocrites' than Andrei Sakharov was (who did very well under communism, who owed his scientific training, lab equipment, etc to the USSR). He was not a "hypocrite" or "bites the hand that feeds him" he was courageous to recognize that despite him doing (relatively) well under the USSR, it was still a sick system. Only a communist party hack would call Sakharov a 'hypocrite' for criticizing communism; only a Corporate Hack would call upper middle class or wealthy who criticism our system, the same name.

The lower-income are even more courageous - despite being constantly told to shut up, told they don't matter, told they deserve their lot in life because it's "all their fault" while laws and institutions are there designed to benefits the corporate elite and designed to keep the lower income powerless, they still speak out"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
