Occupy Queens: March On the Big Banks
Posted 12 years ago on June 8, 2012, 9:35 p.m. EST by OccupyWallSt
June 9 • 1PM • 37Th Road Plaza • Jackson Heights
You are invited to join our March on the Big Banks on June 9 in Jackson Heights, a street theater performance of Occupy Queens’s Move Your Money Bank Action/Housing Working Groups. Some participants will dress up as houses made from cardboard. Others will play drums, carry signs (e.g., Foreclose Banks, Not People’s Homes), sing, chant and hand out flyers.
March participants will assemble 1:00 pm at the pedestrian plaza in Jackson Heights at the corner of 37th Rd. and 74th St. and begin to march at about 1:30 pm to at least 4 of the Big Banks located nearby. (Subway is 1 block away; E, F, R and #7 trains to 74th St./Roosevelt Ave.)
The purpose of this action is to raise consciousness in the community about the predatory and fraudulent practices of the Big Banks, specifically relating to housing foreclosures. Further, we will encourage people in the community to ‘move their money’ to local banks or credit unions that do not engage in deceptive practices.

I lost my condo in FL... Bought it for 150k went up to 180k then dropped like a deck of cards to 30k . The bank would not reduce the principle( the actual mortgage amount.) They just wanted to stretch out the loan for over 50 years. The banks are slick.... why would I pay a mortgage amount of 135k when the property is worth only 30k?

I don't understand. You knowingly borrowed $135K for a $150K condo, I assume you were able to meet the payments then and still could today. Are you saying the bank caused it's drop in value? Did you buy it, to live in, as a second home, or did you gamble that it would go up and you could make an easy profit?
I can understand and can agree that people that have lost their jobs should be given help to remain in their homes. People that have been cheated by a bank should be helped and anyone that committed fraud punished, but you seem to simply want someone else to pay for your bad luck.
To answer your question though, you should pay the mortgage because that was the agreement you made with the bank. You asked for the money and agreed to the terms. Based on what you've said none of what happened was the bank's fault. Live up to your agreement, pay because that is what is right.
The way Banks run their business now day's is just a crime. They lost out on their purpose, i firmly think that they should shut down before doing any more damage and think up another system. This one isn't simply working

With a few more stunts like these, few banks will be left alive.
Shucks. Would love to take part in work in Jackson, coolest neighborhood in NYC, but there was no advance notice! Things seem very scattered in OWS now.
Excellent and for some further info re 'the issues' :

I'm all for the ideas of the 99% but the camping and marching isn't working . ALL OF YOU need to mobilize and do what the tea party did. They got a lot of tea party members into congress and gave a big chunk of the financial control to the republicans in the house. You have to attack the source of the corruption, the governing body, both congress and the senate. If you do that, then the head(wall street)will eventually be forced to restructure. And regardless if you agree with me or not, the majority needs you to vote in every single election and wholeheartedly participate in our political process. Money alone cannot run a country. You need a sh!t load of blood, sweat and tears. DONATIONS ANYBODY! LETS GO 99%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanx and re. "camping and marching" - that is as good a seed as any and better than most, to initiate a movement and help a shift up in consciousness. The earliest iteration of the T-party was inspired by the theories if not the 'modus operandi' of "The Ruckus Society" !!! OWS may need to learn some lessons via some strange examples from stranger sources !! If you're new here and serious (which you sound) then please explore the site and have a peek at the 'donate' option !
